When you wartch the fingers on those guitars, sweet music is born
Two original members had passed away. Another two in their golden age now..
Amazing band. Not a single misplaced lick. Absolute perfection.
An they more in time with there dance moves than pans people 😂👌
That was the best Shadows ever.
Great guitar tones. Impeccable playing.
Jet and Tony made them extremely happy
Its a shame most people recognise the Shadows but not Jet Harris who virtually created the base guitar, sorely missed.
When asked about The Shadows I always include Jet & Tony. It's only right.
Why do you need a basic guitar Jet Harris? :)
Jet is the one in the middle, right? (I recently discovered the Shadows while surfing YT and became mesmerized by their instrumentals.) Hank is always easy to pick out because of the glasses.
Couldn't agree more... He made playing bass cool! RIP legend
The greatest guitar gods on the planet.
Yes 👍♥️🎸
Sorry but no.
@@robertosborne7542 put yourself in 1960 though
@@robertosborne7542 your still Listening to Jim page and he's fast playing and your missing the great notes of Hank Marvin
@@MIKE-TYTHON from 1959 to 1964 they were my guitar favourites and I don't listen to much pop now but I still listen to there stuff from them essential years.Alf. 29/12/1946.
Incredible to think how difficult it was, in The late '50's, to get a hold of Fender guitars in England. They looked, almost like, alien technology at the time.
Jet has the coolest hair do.
Jet was by far the best Bass player the Shads ever had.
Cool dude R.I.P Jet.
Correct, next was John Rostill.
Absolutely
God bless him 🙏
Mark Griffiths was every good as Jet!
The Shadows themselves said John was the best bass player they had. And when they reformed they used session players, all of whom were musically better still. But, yes, Jet was cool. That’s a different thing.
Jet had the looks, the style, and definitely the talent. A true legend.
Who's Jet
The Bass guitarist..?
@@rukshandezoysa6171 Yes. He played the first ever Fender bass in England
@@rukshandezoysa6171 Jet Harris and Tony Meehan bolted early in the piece to form their own titular group. They made a couple of half-arsed songs then disappeared. This is probably why those looking into the early years of the Shadows(a name suggested by Jet Harris) are only just finding out about early members....
@@rukshandezoysa6171 yes
Sounds like a theme from so called spaghetti western in the 60's
Such a great band.
I love watching Jet Harris impressive and alluring style.
The ORIGINAL and the BEST.
COOLNESS factor off the charts
Brilliant song great band great guitarist and drums
For someone so young, 18 when this was filmed, Tony Meehan was a classy drummer, he had a very distinct style, more so than Brian Bennett who later replaced him. Brian of course became a legend in his life time as the best British drummer of all time.
Tony became head of A & R at Decca records after being sacked.
@@hobbayne Wasn't he the man that turned the Beatles down, preferring the Tremeloes?
Best British drummer!?Mitch Mitchell maybe-this stuff just sounds so weak and souless to me,my opinion of course. The difference between this and Hendrix/Cream et al is only a few years but galaxies apart .
Different styles but both esemplastic
@@LesD9 no it wasn't..tony was booked in to produce a recording session with them but it never got the go ahead from dick Rowe...
Truly great. Thanks so very much for posting, so we can all re-live and enjoy it.
Obviously the camera thinks the guy in the middle is playing the song....he totally ignores Welch and shows Hank only in passing...all the focus in on Jet...of course probably the best bassist of his time...but !!
That's the impression I got too when watching it. The video guy wasn't sure what he was doing. Only late in the piece did he seem to wake up to Hank being the main guy.
I am sorry, but just a Dire Straits was always regarded as Mark Knopfler's band, so the Shadows will always be Hank Marvin's band. The reason in both cases, the bands could not exist without them. They were the 'it' guys.
Maybe that is the reason why all the bassists after Jet stood in the back row. Film only mighty Hank and his assistant.
brilliant , great they were around , Supergroup .......
Yes when I was young I wanted to be like Jet Harris
Such talent.
It is sad to see how this bass guitar exponent in his youth ended with a ruined life due to 2 people, namely his user wife and the teenage idol of the time, Cliff. Most of us from that generation love Cliff, cannot feel more disappointed to see this scandal happened. Jet's sound will always be playing in my heads,
If you read Jet’s own account, along with those of others who knew him, you will find that this was hardly a scandal. And it was in no way the main problem in his life. He was an alcoholic, and drink doesn’t mix with the high pressure of showbiz life.
@@IainPurdon I thought he became an alco because of the scandal.
We can’t ask him, but I think that the booze was happening before that @@johnlay3040
First it was Jet Harris then it was Paul McCartney who made it cool to be bass player
Then there was Spartacus of Osibissa and Brian Magness of El Chicano and pat Vegas of Red Bone

Great to see this video of the Shadows on Crackerjack, introduced by Eamon Andrews, I remember it well. The sound you hear, however, is not the sound off the show, which is given away by the outrageous edit at around 1.27. This is to cover up what Hank played in the breaks. Somebody regarded the improv. as a fluff and cut it out. Hank Marvin's playing was and still is..immaculate. The tone value of every note, and musical expression of every phrase is of a very high order, far beyond the expectation and demands of a pop group of the early 60's. But they set their own very high performance standards. If you would like to hear the original sound of this broadcast ( the Strat into the AC30 then miked) there is a video on YT labelled Frightened City - The Shadows. posted about 14 years ago. Yes Hank was and still is a tremendous guitar player , but the sound of the Shadows was made up by three other fellas. A great drummer, at this time, Tony Meehan, on bass the great Jet Harris and the engine room that drove the band Bruce Welch. ( try playing along with the rhythm guitar on The Savage. !!!

CRACKERJACK!!!!!!!
Yep. I watched that episode. I think I saw every appearance on TV and had every single...

avec the Ventures ...
the Spotnicks
les Fantômes etc ...
The greatest band ever
I was 5 and now 67 . I remember my Dad trying to learn Apache on his guitar and having me stop and start his reel to reel tape recorder and watching the green magic eye for the recording level.Happy bygone memories.❤
Great dancing!
Music of my time
Thank you.
Jet was the star of the shadows he had it all so cool
Real music
Phantastic song!!!! Amazing......!!!!
O man the sixties !
They were a great influence on tony iommi
The shadows and Django Reinhardt.....
Yeah, but it’s been a long time since Tony had a haircut like
exelente
Class
Jet is so cute
It frightens me to watch them!!!!
Damn. Was the year I was born. Wow. They where hamming allready
Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath cited this song as a big influence on his direction.
This is the best performance of The shadows
Jet best shadow ❤
My favourite Shads song
Some cool drumming going on in this song.
It took a while to learn this. Still can't get some of the cleverer bits. 🎸
The group without Jet were a shadow of how great they were
FEDER STRATOCASTER WITH THE 3 PICK UPS!
Was this on "Crackerjack"? If it's really live then then it's brilliant.
Love Tony's drumming!
Full show + date details are in the description.
It’s been overdubbed but the original performance was amazing too
Únicos.
What were Jet and Tony thinking? Both part of what turned out to be one of THE pre-eminent groups in the 60's and beyond, and they decided to go it alone. The Shadows lost first rate bassist and drummer who as a group of 2 made a couple of half-arsed songs, and disappeared. Silly boys....
Well...three , and those three were good.......but I agree .
Tony was chucked out and Jet followed because they were both unreliable in different ways.
Jet n Tony also partly left because they could see Hank and Bruce were moving towards the "family entertainment" look. Jet was in my view one of the original "punk rockers" - family entertainment was not his style!
Yup. We all lusted after a 'Pink' Fender😊
The film was good to!
1:39 GODDESS!
Hard to watch their foot shuffling. I think their music improved greatly over the years.
Every cover band Bassist had to do 'Jet Black' by Jet Harris😊
These dudes overshadowed every other band of the time. Pardon the pun....
Oh really awesome
💕.
Unfortunatelly the sound is from disc original
Remixed for stereo too.
Holy Crap it's one of the songs from DuckTales on NES
Shiny!
The Shads have always been good, but they never eclipsed the members in this clip after Jet and Tony departed,Brian is a good drummer but no Tony Meehan
Did Harris and Meehan leave on their own?
Я с 59 г р. 😂
Was this song in the film The Frightened City?
"Frightened City". London?!!
HOW'D GET ALL THAT COMPRESSION ON THE GUITAR ?
I think its the original studio version dubbed on.
Why would you not recognise jet and also Tony meehan they were the shadows
super super alive
That's called synced!!!
no bass guitar?

Is it just me or does hank Marvin look like Ronnie Kray?
Great! But not live. Playback version. But no matter ... Just one of their best ...
Bruce Welch's rhythm guitar was always too low in the mix....should have been 2dB louder. The acid test is listening to the band without Hank playing...you should be able to make out the chord they're playing. Just saying....
Pure camp; like a scene from a cheap Italian movie. 😛
Bottom line Jet should have stayed with the Shadows
