What you'll learn from this episode:
That there are two main types of fat in our bodies; white fat and brown fat. White fat is used to store energy, pad the body, and is an important hormone secreting endocrine organ, while brown fat functions as a space heater, and it draws its fuel from white fat! Excess white fat leads to hormonal imbalances and inflammation that fuels chronic diseases.
Simple hacks for harnessing the power of brown fat to burn excess white, including sleeping in a cool room (below 70 degrees Fahrenheit,) and choosing food that clicks on your brown fat, like chili peppers.
A no nonsense way of doing intermittent fasting based on your personal preferences, and why it’s important to give your body a break from eating and a chance to burn fat.
Why ultra-processed foods are damaging to your body’s metabolism, what artificial sweeteners and food additives do to your gut microbiome, and how to find real food in the middle aisles of the store.
Tips and tricks for eating less when you are prone to overeating, including using smaller plates, filling up on vegetables first, leaving empty space on your plate, and slowing down and eating mindfully.
    And much more!

I am 47, 5'4 tall, and about 140-145 lbs. I stopped restrictive dieting because it was making me have cravings, and I would end up overeating things I did not even want. i stay away from processed boxed foods, and stay away from artificial sweeteners. I work out 5 hours a week, and feel great. I also started fasting once a week. Some carbs and some sugar is really ok. But there are people and companies who capitalize on people obsessing and vilifying certain foods, so they make money on selling us overpriced products.

@@carmendobbs9396 Now I am 138 lbs :) It was too hard to do a 'full' fast, so I just pack up a bunch of fruit and veggies and eat them at work. And then I have small meal at home. I do this twice a week, and my weight is slowly budging! I found that when I am eating something I think is 'healthy', then I tend to eat more of it, and consume more calories and have more cravings. Now my cravings stopped, and I just mindfully eat 'unhealthy' stuff including sweets but in smaller amount and slowly, allowing my brain to realize that I am not restricting the variety. I like to stick with healthier options overall though and I avoid artificial sweeteners. Same methods don't work for everyone, we all must find something that suits us and our lifestyle.

@@mrsbootsworkouts You are lucky. If I touched fruit it activates the part of my brain that is waiting on the sugar.
That throws me into a spin I will eat fruit gums. Next thing I am binging on sugar.
I love the idea of not worrying about when to eat. I can fast when I dont touch artificial foods and fruit. Dairy I handle with care it can obtain casings which is addictive to some. Starches are trigger foods.
Fasting and grass fed meat a small portion of green fiber is best for me.

To lose weight, I found that it isn't exactly what you eat- although stop eating meat, processed foods, and carbs really helps- but what is important is how ling that you don't eat.
Just like when you want cannabis to flowers, it is not how much sunshine it gets, it is how much darkness.
So if you can begin fasting in small increments and expand how long you don't eat.
Choose, for example, 7 p.m. until 11 a.m. or whatever works for you.

47 minutes in and he still hasn't mentioned what foods to eat to grow/help brown fat. He sounds like those videos that just talk and seem to never get to the thing you tuned into the video to see, because they are getting paid by long you keep tuned it. His info is good, but for our sake get to the point, and then move on. It makes me think he really only wants you to buy the book. Max please use timestamps, so we can go to the thing we want to hear most and then go back to hear the rest of it. Now 57 minutes, just mentioned hot peppers, but not related to brown fat.

I just bought a cheap vibration plate and love it.
I have Sjogren's syndrome, arthritis, fibromyalgia, Raynaud's syndrome, etc.
I originally bought it for my grandson, who was born prematurely, to work with his muscles.
But this has helped me so much and has encouraged me to cut out sugar in my tea. I know it inflames my joints but it tasted so good.
I also returned to drinking lemon water, it helps your body be alkaline.
If you have a craving for something sweet... just drink some warm water with lemon juice or make lemon ice water.
That has been my only real vice.
I was very ill and down to 98 pounds where muscle wasting and apparently I lost my brown fat because I am cold all the time.

Go bellota ham! Fun fact: bellota is Spanish for acorn, which is what the pigs that make the Jabugo (Jabugo is the higher quality of Spanish cured ham, Serrano is more run-of-the-mill, the process can be industrialized) are fed. The top of the top is the "pata negra" (black leg) from those darker, leaner pigs that spend their lives basking under the shade of olive trees until their time comes.

Not specifically looking at info for weight loss however looking for most beneficial nutrients with goal of optimal health as I’m getting older. It’s greatly rewarding to have the best advisors sharing such significant suggested foodstuffs with my personal choice of whole food and appropriate sleep along with reasonable exercise. So rewarding to not have Rx and chemicals interfering with my choice of simple daily meals and intermittent fasting. I’m amazed at how many people have their health issues generated by their insurance company’s providers who unfortunately don’t seem to put their client’s wellness to be primary goal and recovery from disease and illness which I find horribly irresponsible when their concerns should be taken seriously. I’m paying out of pocket for my acupuncturist who is quite effective and naturally knowledgeable in regards to herbal treatments and his acupuncture treatments have amazing beneficial results days later proving very powerful and effective and the price is so reasonable for the fascinating results. I’m doing so healthfully more beneficial than most people I’ve cared for and so may much younger than myself! The exposure to the guests like Mark Hyman MD and Dr LI with Max is supportively rewarding. I’m getting better and I’ve just gone six months past turning seventy? So encouraging to find Dr Osborne helping to narrow the path of pitfalls. This clearly is one of the best times I life to be alive and be inspired to take responsibility for my own healthcare decisions. I think the most beneficial thing is that we don’t need three meals everyday and all this processed foods ads and conventional medicine pushed on television and insurance company requirements are in their best financial benefits not focused on health and healing. Seems openly obvious now that we need more information than being led down the blindly following of traditional medicine. It’s important to take responsibility and gain rewards for eating as nutrient dense and clean foods as daily intake is taken into consideration for the long run benefits. Max is one of my goto’s and so encouraging for real health benefits. Im a big supporter of your efforts Max. You all are what I consider super health heroes. I have to express my gratitude. Nice to know we don’t have to be pushed around by big pharm. Naw. Im good.👍🙏🤗🍀🍏🌺🌙😴.

In an email to us, Max says "Forget about everything you've been told about body fat and metabolism." Despite the fact that I follow Max religiously and like his content, this is not the way to get me interested in any particular subject...for many reasons. Here are a couple: one -- how do you know what I already know and, more to the point: do you know my background and learning about this subject? Secondly, this intro plays down to his audience. I say, treat your audience as a classroom of sorts and put the info out there. A smart audience/classroom learns from it what they will. We will appreciate the fact that you provided this content to us, but don't talk down to us.
Sorry - I'm not being harsh, but one's content and reputation stands on the package one puts out there. No, I'm not going to "forget" anything; you learn by taking in new information and weighing it against what you already know...preferably using some sort of the scientific method and/or a passel of mental models (I like the Feynman Technique and the OODA Loop thingie personally).
Keep up the good work Max.

One of the biggest lies about losing body fat is that the whole idea of how to do is a scientific question.
Losing fat and getting healthy is really an evolutionary question.
One of the first thing this doctor says is that there are new scientific ways to understand fat.
    This is BS.
Body fat is an evolutionary protection against starvation, and a vital part of our metabolism and existence., and has been around for millions of years.
Our ancestors were thin for millions of years, without having any doctors to tell us what we need to do.
It's my opinion that experts are actually the problem, because they are constantly talking about a scientific solution.
The solution to excess body fat is an evolutionary question, not a scientific one, per se.
Science is actually the reason we are so fat and sick as a species, true fact.

I am not sure what happened. I was a fat chubby baby. I kept the fat until age three or four. Lost a bit then by age seven or eight i gained a stone per year until I was ten. The school nurse hauled me out of the line and put me just me on the scales. I was sent home with diet sheet. I was to cut down on starch and sugar and have lean meat or chicken. What happened next was I had to eat what my mother could afford. I ate bread and jam potatoes and beans and very little sweets I d I'd not get much fat at all as my mother bought margarine it was supposedly better. Lean meat and fish were treats.
I was made to feel guilty for being fat as I was an Olympic athlete at storing fat. So I went fat fee low cal and lost some weight but as soon as I ate anything like a normal calorific food on that fat went all over. So I reduced calories until I was eating only 800 or 1000 calories all processed as process calories are easier to count. I think if we had not been exposed to Sad food we would not be having to worry about taking cold showers, lifting weights . We did not have central heating up until I was no longer a teen so the temperature I slept in was cold
      My addiction was bread.
Now I don't eat until the afternoon usually beef or lamb no or low veg. I usually eat in a 4 hour window. But. sleep pattern is rubbish since childhood. I feel OK weight 72 Kg but if I be honest my sleep is rubbish broken 4 hours. I am not sure that even with IF I will ever not have to worry about dieting. I think the food I ate or lack of it in childhood set me up for problems for ever.
