To call Koba one of the greatest villains of all time is an understatement.

Koba was actually “rescued” from the circus. It was unfortunate that he ended up in a science lab instead of a animal sanctuary. Thats how Koba tricked those two guys, his circus act. I put quotations on rescue because we know how that ended up.

Koba wasn't raised with peace, so he chose violence when he was grown. Sad to see, he's like Gollum in Lord of the Rings, suffered so much, but wound up choosing his inner demons.
This trilogy's amazing, can't wait to see the newest film, hope it lives up to the 1st 3 movies!
He did have a somewhat happy childhood. He had a caretaker that he loved to play pranks on and the caretaker loved him. But for some reason, the caretaker was replaced with someone truly evil. Koba took a pencil as a joke like he usual did with his old caretaker, but this caretaker completely lost it and just beat up Koba.

5:12 They actually made really short vids about the time inbetween, I remember in the cinema frantically trying to watch them on my iPhone while the ads were on lol. Doesn't show much I love how much extra content there is. My parents even got me the novel Firestorm which is the official story between Rise and Dawn.

The problem with the Tim Burton movie with Mark Wahlberg is it had nothing to say and succeeded brilliantly in saying absolutely nothing. Planet of the Apes, as in most great sci-fi, is allegorical. The Ape world is meant to be a metaphoric vehicle to make social commentary and statements. It is supposed to make you think. The Tim Burton movie stripped all that away and just made an action movie.
It sucks.
