Unpopular Opinion: This album is actually a perfect album. The fact that Rocky actually figured out a way to make a singular project sound like snippets found from studios throughout his career, it kinda makes this album sound like a scrapbook. I think “Testing” was the perfect name due to it being just that, a collection of tests and snippets. It’s also interesting that it’s his only album not containing a period in place of spaces(due to it also being the only one word titled album) and the only album not relating to the immortality of A$AP and hip-hop in general. I think this album says a lot about how ahead of the game A$AP truly is. I think that this album wasn’t accepted on release because we weren’t ready for it yet, it’s completely different from most music released in 2018. I personally think some tracks on this record are absolutely impeccable, for instance, Changes is Rocky’s FML, Praise The Lord is a classic, Gunz and Butter applies an Odd Future sound to the album, which is a really refreshing transition from the synth on Buck Shots. I truly believe that Rocky would be heavily involved in A$AP and the rap game today if this album wasn’t so heavily criticized for being the only thing it was ever trying to be. After all, aren’t we always asking for more A$AP and Rocky, he gave us LITERAL STUDIO CLIPS AND EVEN PHONE CALLS WITH HIS MOM and we complained. Overall, BEAUTIFUL album, 9-10/10, Rocky needs more synths and to stop referencing Fortnite, he should probably collab with The Weeknd, and I should replace Melon.🎵🍉🍈 edit: i realize that it was phone calls with Kodak, which is even crazier that he managed to get a feature over a federal call.

Lyrical Myracle Yes! I want a solo Cudi album already. PP&DS could've been a damn near classic if not for the filler tracks. Can't wait for Kids See Ghost.
I disagree wholeheartedly with your opinion, but I really liked how you confidently stated your perspective on this album. Your language is very persuasive.
This album was exactly what he described, great concept and ideas but he did not execute this well at all. It was very hard to not burn through the skip button, rocky really didn’t have any direction with this record.
3Punch I go to Cornell University lol The class was hard af, the class got curved heavy, so I got lucky. Usually the STEM courses here are curved while the others aren't. Has nothing to do with school, clearly.
3Punch Bruh that's not how a curve works tho. Curve doesn't just change your grade, it changes everyone else's as well. If prof gave you 4 more points, he'd have to give to everyone else and you'd end up with the same grade as before.

I think rocky is getting better with each album actually. I think Long Live Asap was a great first step for Rocky to really get his foot in the door, but didn't deliver anything too groundbreaking imo. ALLA and Testing, however, are clearly more distinct and more uniquely Rocky. It also helps that I happen to like a lot of the experimental directions Rocky has gone with, especially on testing. Guns N Butter and Hun43rd are some of the best songs I've heard all year.
@saucegod-pr7nr Dude you need to give up on Rocky. He's unsaveable at this point. "Don't be Dumb" or whatever the fuck the next album is called will flop hard. Dude's lyrically pretentious and a joke now. If you like his old music you won't like his new stuff. Simple as.
This was a original album. The off the wall sound and styles of rap make separate it from all other albums Rocky Made and I appreciate it. He exposed him self and while people are hating, I love this album.
I didn't really ike it on the first listen, but later I completely changed my mind. Easily one of the best and most interesting albums of the year in hip-hop. Strangely enough ASAP Forever Remix and Praise the Lord are in my opinion the most boring songs and I love Kids Turned Out FIne, so I completely disagree with Anthony Fantano.

1. At long last Asap 2. Testing 3. Long Live Asap 4. Live Love Asap I liked this album the most I feel he is getting better waiting for another album in 2020
Alex VonBerg to me birds is a solid album not trav best but at least at 7.5/10 - however music is subjective and there is no such thing as ‘trash music’
I feel melon misunderstands this album. Rocky dropped this album without Yams and after the death of his sister. The mindset Rocky is painting is the lonely incomplete feeling his life is going thru. Parts of the album seem incomplete, abrasive, directionless, experimental and confused, but this is on purpose to not only add to Rocky's lyrics but to create a feeling that pairs with the psychedelic/hallucinogenic setting of the project.
This album is so amazing I don’t get the criticisms. Wow it blows me away each time I listen to it. It needs a re-evaluation. Great album lost in time.
I love how this comment section is free of any jokes you would normally see on a review, I love how people are actually arguing that testing deserves a better rating. While i don’t agree with what Fantano says about the album, I like the fact that the review brought people to actually discuss the review. testing a 8/10 for me personally, love everything about the album but it has its flaws that stop it from having a perfect score, crazy considering I really wasn’t into Rocky before this dropped
Memes aside, I’m gonna have to disagree with this review. I really liked this album. I felt Cudi’s feature on A$AP forever was dope especially with him humming the beat. The song Changes to me was great. I guess because I’m slowly getting into adult life myself being 20 years old.
Vinicius Rangel hey so it means a flop is like a bad turn out, what I was saying is this album isn’t bad, you have to listen to it and it grows on you and makes more sense each time you listen to it
I personally enjoy the album it’s a very attitude album, no story , but it flows well together, and can be shuffled and still sound good, it’s as if you took A$APs style and personality and then put them into an album, and that’s how it should be heard imo, it’s different for its self not for the people.
>album >no story can't be a comprehensive album unless it has a running theme or story, call it a compilation or commercial mixtape, but three years of recording and testing is the result?
L3THAL IMPULS3 he definitely does. He rates so many shitty experimental artists but shits on Cudi’s better experimental albums. Only thing I don’t like ab melon lol
It's because Cudi is corny as fuck. I mean he out here with some cringey ass lines. I mean his last album, there's a good bunch of songs I absolutely love, but even shit like Rose Golden with such a gorgeous chorus has him near-ruining it with a random, "the story of the chosen," that makes me cringe everytime. He makes a lot of really bad decisions, lyrically, but production-wise and delivery, he can be great as hell. He's one of the only rappers out I would support to have a ghost writer.
Shane Benjamson I understand what you mean by the “cringy” part of Cudder but I still love that guys music, granted he makes some questionable decisions
DankRobin I’m not twisting things, ik he didn’t like it before, but he kinda shit on kid cudi a little extra and in my opinion, I thought it was a pretty good verse
usually with most of his negative reviews, even if i like the album, i can find truth in it all. but to be honest this time around, i just wholly disagree with his general view of the album. i saw this as a 7+
So far this is the most diverse album in terms of people’s opinion on it, they either rlly hate it and dissapointed when it dropped or think that this is a cult classic and one of rocky’s best album

Idky but today I woke up wanting to listen to this album only to see this comment realizing it was released today, weird.😂
"They talkin' down on my name, don't let 'em run off with the game
Man I just run with the gang, A$AP boys came with the flame"
The album pusha t buried
Daniel Pezzi um no lol
jp um yes, lol
jp of course bro
Technically drake buried it😂 we all know pusha t couldn’t sell that shit without the Drake beef
So Drake dissing Pusha made people want to buy Push's album?? 🤔 Sounds counterproductive to what he wanted.
1. At long last Asap
2. Testing
3. Long Live Asap
4. Live Love Asap
I liked this album the most I feel he is getting better waiting for another album in 2020
Thank you. Personally testing is my favorite, can’t wait for his new album
Agreed
wtf why is live love last
SAME I WANT HIM TO DROP
ASAP Forever is a banger, wtf!
You're right here, but you are still flat out wrong about ALLA.
wrong about birds in the trap aswell
Nah, that album is trash.
Alex VonBerg to me birds is a solid album not trav best but at least at 7.5/10 - however music is subjective and there is no such thing as ‘trash music’
Yea this album was super underwhelming especially since he had 3 years to work on it
Austin Stee yeah and it's pretty annoying that we had to wait so long for a new album just to be let down by a shit album
Yeah Testing was trash af bruh
you guys know that he already have another album ready? that's why this album is called 'Testing'
Bjørnar Husby where do you got this information from
Mobb Deep I'd like to know also.
one of my all time favorite albums
Same. Helped me get over a heavy time in my life
Rocky was and still is ahead of his time.
Well this test didn't go well
Kahan Taraporevala yep it gets a fat F
Strong 7 light 8
Red Flannel
OG 2tone means bad news but i agree
Lord pretty flocka bodied by a melon in a flannel shirt
Guns n Butter
Changes
Hun43rd

@@moonchild1313us hell yeah
@@moonchild1313us I didn't forget.
It's not bad, it's pretty solid
I really enjoyed the album, but I see Melon’s points. We disagree, but thats cool. “Y’all know this is just my opinion right?”
Oli Rayner this is the nicest comment on this fucking review. im like literally happy after reading this lmao
Memes aside, I’m gonna have to disagree with this review. I really liked this album. I felt Cudi’s feature on A$AP forever was dope especially with him humming the beat. The song Changes to me was great. I guess because I’m slowly getting into adult life myself being 20 years old.
I don't think age has something to do with it. I'm also 20 years old an I thought this album was a disappointment, really boring tbh
Ju7Be to each its own I guess
Ju7Be This was the worst album I’ve heard this year. Ferg will always be infinitely better than Rocky.
Im with u bro
20 years old "adult life" lmao
This will be looked back on as a masterpiece in years to come
this album grew on me so much 1 1/2 years later.
the review that we were waiting for....🍿🍿🍿
straight up
You guys have to keep listening to it it grows on you it’s not a flop
jade regalado EXACTLY
jade regalado facts
Explain that expression "not a flop" please? English not first language
Vinicius Rangel hey so it means a flop is like a bad turn out, what I was saying is this album isn’t bad, you have to listen to it and it grows on you and makes more sense each time you listen to it
I agree which is a huge sign of a good album
This album a classic. Rocky’s yeezus faze. Paying off w the most experimental hip hop masterpiece.
At long last was not mediocre. It was his best album
No need to say the n word melon this was just a test
I personally enjoy the album it’s a very attitude album, no story , but it flows well together, and can be shuffled and still sound good, it’s as if you took A$APs style and personality and then put them into an album, and that’s how it should be heard imo, it’s different for its self not for the people.
>album
>no story
can't be a comprehensive album unless it has a running theme or story, call it a compilation or commercial mixtape, but three years of recording and testing is the result?
psychedelicgoofball Haha go on with that. The vast majority of albums don't have a running theme or story through the whole album.
the idea of testing>>> the actual album
I thought fuck sleep was one of the few good songs, his comatose delivery fits the vibe
I’m starting to think he has something against kid cudi... I really liked ASAP Forever
L3THAL IMPULS3 he definitely does. He rates so many shitty experimental artists but shits on Cudi’s better experimental albums. Only thing I don’t like ab melon lol
He also didn't like this track when it came out as a single don't twist things
I don’t care what everyone says this album is great, I’d argue it’s Rocky’s best work
agreed
Second best but 100% agree I don’t understand the hate
Fucks sake I knew this was coming. I thought it was pretty clever just not executed too well.
Same, i think it's my favorite rn
KingLulzington right now. Let the novelty wear off. The rest of his discography is just better
Dis guy gives Lil pump a 7 but this a 4. He lost man he lost...
IMMA GO MOKE SOME PENISES THEN ;ISTEN TO GOOD MUSIC BITCH ASS NIGGA
wow look at this unoriginal comment comparing artists in different lanes
came back to the album recently and it's way too over hated and underrated , this album slaps and has aged impressively well.
How did you not mention distorted records?
sean boyle it was the hottest garbage I’ve ever heard
sean boyle jimmy fallon performance sounded better than album version smh
amen dracu
Cause it is trash
Dracu I agree
usually with most of his negative reviews, even if i like the album, i can find truth in it all. but to be honest this time around, i just wholly disagree with his general view of the album. i saw this as a 7+
This album has aged so well for me.
So far this is the most diverse album in terms of people’s opinion on it, they either rlly hate it and dissapointed when it dropped or think that this is a cult classic and one of rocky’s best album
It’s almost like he was doing a science experiment and the shit went wrong
lmaooooooo
😭😭😭
They looking at the failed experiment
its called testing for a reason
thouxan lmaooo
