    Really appreciate the format of your reviews. The light off-road trails are most interesting to me as well as demonstrating how well adaptive cruise and lane keep works. I sub to a number of other car review channels and I see very little coverage of how these driver-assistance/safety systems work in the real world across brands/models. Personally, would like to see a bit more detail in your reviews in that area. As far as this Sorento, it's a great looking SUV with a lot of checks in the positives column. It should appeal to families needing a midsized crossover with a well executed dash of luxury and a pinch of sporty. However, if you enjoy the outdoors and need something that can comfortably reach trailheads a bit off pavement then clear from this review that you probably want to look elsewhere. Thanks!

    Wow! First negative review I've heard/seen of the Sorento...and for reasons that are evident. If you're a city dweller, it seems OK. But those who may take the car 25% of the time on rocky roads should pay attention. Appreciate the honesty.

    In Canada, the Xline is the mid level trim. In the USA, the Xline is an addon package on the highest end SX trim. Big difference in price between Canada and US.

  • @kavehoskoui8292
    @kavehoskoui8292 3 года назад +31

    wow, forgive me but the US edition is totally lame! In Canada, X-line is a dedicated mid level trim line, it is not an add on. It also comes 2.5T and AWD system, in addition to “modes”, it has “terrain” selection. That said, the magna system is a FT AWD, means automatically engages the Rear from the get go! The other note it should be made is that the operator needs to read the owner’s manual before going to trails! It is not the car’s fault, when the driver has. Ot familiarized himself/herself with the features of the car. So, Canadian viewers, this is NOT the car you get is Canada 🇨🇦! Ours is a much better package! Why?! I have no idea! Another well done video! I am looking forward to your couple test drive!

    • @rparker061
      @rparker061 3 года назад +1

      well you admonish the driver for NOT reading the manual and yet you make asinine comments and it's clear you don't know what you are talking about. Maybe YOU should read the published model guide for the vehicle. US model is NOT lame, you are basically dense. I have x-Line and I live in USA and I have 2.5 T with 'modes' in my vehicle. Also note that I used to sell vehicles.. manufactures are not going to 'add on' off road that's called after market is this your first time with a vehicle like this or what? So no Canadians Kevah is basically giving you incorrect information there is no difference.

    I have a 2015 sorento, few weeks ago after a snow storm I put it on the side of the road to do the driveway.
    It ended up sliding into the ditch and after rocking back and forth a few times, I pushed the so called “center differential lock”.
    There was a noticeable difference in the drivetrain and I was able to crawl through the snow and out of the ditch, very similar to trucks in 4x4 I’ve driven in the past. Not saying they are mechanically the same but it sure does a good job of locking up that center differential to the best of its ability.
    Great video btw 👍

    Kia’s are great cars, I have a 2017 Sorento and the new ones are a completely different animal. However, Kia makes nice luxury-ish cars, but some of the materials are pretty cheaply made. The hard plastics, and rubber pieces do degrade over time and tend to fall apart. Just something to keep in mind the longer you own a Kia, the more the little “luxuries” tend to break down. Engine runs great and I’m at 119k miles and I don’t foresee it breaking down anytime soon. Pretty reliable.

    16:50 After watching this video, I tried some things with my new Sportage (177hp petrol, d-clutch auto) and yes, I have the same problem. But there are tow ways to make up for it (at least for me). 1. simply switch into manual and shift down. That's good for a quick remedy. 2. switch into sport and then it should be much better. I drove to a LARP this weekend on very small roads in he hills somewhere in Germany. It was dark and I chose to let rare oncoming traffic pass by driving down the slopes to the side. Hitting the sport mode button made coming back up those much easier getting out of the mud and gravel. I hope that helps... at least the Sportage drivers :) BTW: I had no problem driving slowly through muddy passages in the forest with this car. Thanks for all the videos and love from Germany :)

    “Overall it’s giving me a weird balance…” exactly what I thought when I drove it. It’s inconsistent. The DCT doesn’t perform the same way every time, the 2.5T is peaky and surgey in its power delivery (a Mazda 2.5T this is not, not even close), they combine to make a weird driving experience. I know the “but they’ve come such a long way!!!” people are going to come for me but for as much as this thing costs it needs serious drivetrain revision in this configuration.

    If the traction control is off for the quicker pothole part of the road, then it won't cut the power to prevent wheel spin, but it's needed on the slow hill climb. Snow mode might have helped (too bad they don't offer the mud or sand mode in the US). Modified 2022 AWD Sorento PHEV's with AT tires took 2nd & 3rd place out of 10 in the X-Cross class, 1500 mile, 8 day, 2021 Rebelle Rally. So this car is very capable.

    From what I learned from the SUV battle channel here on RUclips such crossovers better deal with diagonal suspensions like this if the front wheels are straight and engine revs are kept steady in the maximum torque range. This allows the traction control system to detect the slipping and engage to pull the car out by re-distributing the torque between the wheels. Certainly TCSs of different cars work differently but the overall approach seems to be the same.

    When you mentioned suspension I feel that's where the Kia falls short of it European competitors. However, it more than makes up for that with its interior appointments and quality of materials and fabrics. Their alternative from the "sea of gray" used in virtually all European products, at this level, is a refreshing departure to those drab and lifeless interiors. All that's missing is an HUD and a non-animal skins alternative.
    Speaking of European competitors, cars like the Golf and Tiguan do offer adaptive suspension that are very sophisticated. Those can adjust the ride from sporty to a more compliant all-day highway cruising comfort. They also have launch control and rear-wheel torque vectoring, which was not mentioned for the Sorento -- which is not advertised as a true sports SUV despite its "Sports" gear selection.

    • @rparker061
      @rparker061 3 года назад +1

      ok so you people need to understand this is ALL computer controlled. In USA we drive SUV on road. Earlier comments from another driver said we (as in USA drivers) drive on ROADS not rocks, mud or leaves.. most of the time. The terrain is decided by how much slip there is. Terrain in most off road vehicles is a way to adjust the height of the vehicle.. I think you people are confusing this with Jeeps! Anywho.. the computer (not the transmission or the car) determines how to assign the proper amount of wheel spin based on the selector, but just because it doesn't have mud or some other mode does not make it inferior by any stretch. One more note there is a reason they use AWD instead of 4x4 to describe most of these type vehicles.. All wheel drive is basically for RAIN and basic slipping.. 4x4 implies you would be taking a vehicle OFF ROADING. this isn't a land rover or a Jeep. So stop trying to make it one.

I have a 2021 Santa Fe Limited, and while I used to go off road, the Santa Fe will never see anything more than a logging road anyway, but I am very happy with the car, overall, for how I normally use it. It’s not just the engine that makes it tow more it’s the transmission and the whole body on frame for the telluride to tow that much they would have to make it longer and probably put in a hybrid v6 like the Ford Expedition has. Also kia will never do that the engine in the stinger is way smaller than the engine in the telluride and with a hybrid v6 and a whole new body on frame with a longer wheel base you could tow maybe 6,500 at most

    This is a bit of a joke, the Sorento is not meant to or be driven on rocky trails, it’s not designed for that nor does it profess to be, look at the running tyres on this car that should tell you what this vehicle is meant for, maybe the odd muddy road or track without ruts or bog holes, it’s a highway cruiser, AWD, not a 4x4, this is not a test of the Sorento, it’s how to damage one…..

    Agree with this review and I have the same trim level. For 44k+ large it has no memory seats, no ambient lighting. the kicker is that those things are available in the Sorento in their other markets! I remember reading glowing reviews. went for a test drive and it didn’t show any signs of trouble. 3 months down the road the car is doing weird things like completely being powerless when you make a hard turn and the interior stinks. When it got warmer I started noticing a weird old sock smell in the car that I can’t get rid of. apparently it happened with the Telluride as well from what I can see online. Never buying another Kia. I’m going to try to get rid of this one.

    Kia is overloading their cars now with an overload of computerised digital smart systems, for all drive control. Interiors look mad, but mechanics, transmissions, reliability, with 8 speed transmissions with overheating dual clutches, turbo's, just mean more moving parts to wear & replace, greater maintenance, service and software updates of computerized systems!!.
