- 1999 Pontiac Trans Am Window Tint Installation (Back Window PITA!)
This customer needed new Window Tint on his 1999 Pontiac Trans Am/Firebird. First I had to strip all of the
old WIndow Tint. I used a steamer to remove the old window tint and the rear glass was a major PITA. Removing old tint from a
rear glass is never fun. I installed 35% on the fronts and 20% Reverse Roll Tint method to get the large piece of film onto
the rear glass. You have to stretch the lower area of the film or use a heating Pocket method to shape the film to the glass.
Yes these Pontiacs and older Camaro back glass pieces can be tough to do. So people should know why you charge more for your work
becuase it takes a lot more effort to this window tint installation. This probably isn't a good tint install for a beginner, the rear glass can
be very frustrating.

Nice dude. Not an easy back glass at all. Very intimidating. You nailed it
I want to do a video on one but I haven't gotten another one in. Thanks.
Faded !!!! Clear tape edges so it don't peel back not heavy soap solution helps too .......good job not a Easy one !!!! Much respect Hustle Hustle ???
I have some X100 that I use at times that lets the film tack better but I didn't have any ready at the time but I was lazy lol It's also good to use on back glasses to help the film tak up and dry faster too. At times it's to fast though and can create some issues.
@@FadeToBlackLLC yes yes I understand too tacky not good either has to be perfect mix
Nice I give you major props, that ain’t easy.
Much appreciated, but honestly they aren't that hard just tough to do solo. If I had someone helping to hold down the film it would have went smoother. Thanks for watching.
@@FadeToBlackLLC clear tape...light soap helps....very little cut over black matrix.....
Impressive! I tinted my `99 TA side windows but left it to the pros to do that back window. Thanks to the GSP, I removed it - but not the back window! It was only 20%. I'm going to put it on. Pre-fitting with heat is the key. I always removed my door panels ... but I like how you were able to slip it under the seal.
I’ve learned a new method since this that’s even easier. These are fun to do. Don’t see them that often though.
Hey just wanted thank you for the videos! Just learned you don't need to drink these just cut and slap it in!
No thanks needed. I did find another way but haven't had another one in to film yet.
Damn you made that look too easy! 🤦🏻♂️ i already know im gonna be rewinding and pausing this video 100 times when i do my 99’ SS lol
I'll have a new method that's easier but I'm just waiting to get another one in to film with. Pocket shrinking and no pulling
Im always amazed with your skill. Sir you are an artist
Thank you. It's taken a long time and a lot of windows to really feel confident in what I do. I'm hoping I can provide a quality product for my customers and build relationships with them. Thanks again. I'll have more content soon.
@@FadeToBlackLLC awesome video! Where are you located at?
You, are the man! I know the rear windows on those Trans Ams are a biotch! Great video!
Yeah they are but it just takes some time. Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate it.
you prolly dont care but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Asa Kellen Instablaster =)
@Ares Lyle i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Ares Lyle it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
Lol, I do ppf and was thinking of doing this to my 96 Camaro but I think I'll pass and leave it to the pros that do this every day. Great job, it takes a lot of patience.
Lol you know I just found another method from a guy that works so much better to install rear windows. I'll try to make a video on it the next time I get one.
I hope to learn PPF in the future as well. One of my goals. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍🏾
@@FadeToBlackLLC and I hope ro learn window tinting lol. Just came across another guy who does not shink it it might help, he's just a little cocky Watch "Camero window tint take #2" on RUclips
ruclips.net/video/N7E5yWVlqK0/видео.html Best of luck and keep up the great work.
With how often these door panels crack on these cars that hot steam water ya might wanna throw a towel on the door panel next time i own 3 of these i love em awesome job i wish u were close to michigan id have u do mine lol
This video was probably the last time I have ever done one so I'm not to worried. I don't even see them rolling the streets in my arar. You are a rare person if you have 3 of them. The ones with the Ram Air hoods are nice though.
Take off door panel and pop out the staples from the felt wipe. Then rivet every other hole. 1/8” rivets. Done it many times.
@Fadetoblack. Great Job..The one and only trans am I did back in 99,,I two pieced..The thought of 1 piece never even crossed my mind since I was just learning Heat shrinking..If I ever get one again I will attempt a 60inch roll turned sideways and shrunk like the Tesla’s..
Let me know how the 60" works out. I think there will still be a ton of tension because of how the glass is shaped. I don't even carry 60" film rolls.
LOVED this video man awesome content 🙏🏻💰💰💰
Thanks for checking out the vid...I have more content coming soon. Thanks.
Damn I need to get this done to my Firebird, looks so good
Thanks for watching!
Nice job man 👍. I got a camaro of my own to do and definitely going to try this way
I hope to get another.. I actually found an easier way lol. Just haven't had one to film yet.
Let me know how it goes. This way actually works better if you have another set of hands.
I'd like to see the easier way lol, so I hope you get another one. I'll let you know how it goes. Appreciate your reply thank you
You made that look easier than it is. I actually meant to ask.... did you only heat shrink the top? That's what I did and then I wanted to be sure, so I looked for videos and found yours. Also thank you so much for sharing! Not and easy model to find being tinted, especially in 1 piece.
Yes just the top and pulled the bottom. There is an easier way I want to video when I get another one in.
@@FadeToBlackLLC that would be awesome, but I only have it until Friday, I've gotta try and squeeze it in between my other jobs if I can.
great job i have coming in next week im using your tips
This is actually the harder way of doing it. I've been waiting for a another one to show a different method I was shown that's a lot easier.
Keep checking back maybe one day I'll finally get one here too.
Just had mine done and the back window has bubbles in the top portion! Told the guy about it and he said to take it back. He says it’s a huge Challenge with those WS6. Where you located at? I’ll take it to you!! 🥃👍😂
I just did another one and it came out really good. No issues with the Top Portion at all and I was surprised. I'm in Wisconsin and maybe yours just was just in a mood that day???
@fade to black; what do you recommend for this guy to change so the tint don’t look like that? I’m in Chicago...
Cool stuff man yes those windows give a headache sometimes on the bottom part
No doubt!
@Fade To Black LLC What was originally there ?! 1% ? It's like 0% tint !!!
I'm not sure but as you can see it was very dark!
Very good work bro 👏
Much appreciated, thanks for watching. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks for the info, I have a question do you use a cutting machine and if so for someone like me who is just starting what machine do you recommend to start and can do all windows TIA.
I hand cut, you can see that in all of my videos. Learn to hand cut first do so you can always fall back if you need to.
🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate you!
Fantastic job!! and my god that car looks sweet!! Do loves me a Trans-Am!! I live in the UK and am looking to get my trunk window re-tinted. Can you advise on what kind of vinyl you use to tint the exterior windows please?
I don't tint exterior windows. I just use Tint for all my installs. Thanks for watching. This was a really nice car.
@@FadeToBlackLLC Sorry, I was meaning what was the kind of wrap you put on the rear window. I have a company that's willing to try it but they'd like to know which kind you like to use. That's all, thank you for your fast reply. 😁😁
@@spiceweasle3945 yes I only use Tint. Shrink it outside and install inside. I do use Avery Vinly on paint for color changes.
@@FadeToBlackLLC Aaah, im with you. Thanks for clearing that up for me. And thanks for your time. :)
did 1 today, had issues with a bunch of tiny air pocket bubbles on the bottom of the back glass (from it lifting and me constantly squeegeeing it down) did you have the same issue? also is that the cheddah squeegee? the yellow 1.
Yeah when you do the "Pull" method it creates a lot of tension on the bottom and makes it lift. I recently found another method a guy posted that took half the to install.. Probably even less! I'll try get a video up the next time I get one in. It's like so simple you won't belive your done that fast.
Nice 👍 job man , I like it , this guy I know left I lots bubbles on the top part of the rear window , he said nothing he can’t do about that , look bad. Any tips ? Thanks.
I can't say, not knowing what it looks like myself? Is it this same car? The dot matrix on these is pretty thick? It's possible it just didn't lay down well?
There are some tricks to do but if you don't ask then they might have just did what they could and left it alone. It's tough at times because we don't know how certain things will turn out until we don't them.
I usually just tell the customer or ask if they want me to put more work into it with an additional charge because it's more time and work.
Great job man
Thanks for watching. I have a new method that's easier but I need one to film.
@@FadeToBlackLLCcan you share the other method? Thanks!!
Would love to see a corvette c6 rear window installation you found your self a new subscriber to
Those are tough. To be honest I've only ever messed with one with a buddy and he figured it out.
Fade To Black LLC would love to see it happen just ordered some tinting stuff gonna try to learn your videos are real helpful will be learning on my girlfriends 2018 Malibu wanna see the corvette so I can try to do mine everyone around me dose it with 2 pieces of film and I want a solid piece
They want $250 just to do the hatch on my TA. Nope! I’ll teach myself before I pay that.
They are a pain to do. Let me know how it goes.
I've done a 96 in 5% 1 piece. Serious challenge. I have my second one in for 20% and it got me. I have to do it again. Sucks!
I've been wanting to get another one in since I found a new way to do them from a guy on Facebook.. Crazy easy with no Tension on the film.
Just haven't had another one.
Why do some people put tent on the outside of the glass
They prefit the film on the outside to make a template, then transfer the piece to the inside of the glass.
Thats why we go from the outside and finish up inside. 👍🏾
I have a 95 Camaro and im looking for someone to re tint it..i remove the old tint because it faded and turned purple. It was a one peice tint. People are telling me to find a shop that uses 3m tint. What do you think?
3M is not the only brand in the world. People that say 3M have no idea of brands out there. First probably check with your local Tint shop and see what they carry. If they have been in your town for years they are probably the best choice. I don't worry about brands it all looks dark on the car lol.
Why did you lift it and re-wet it did you have a gap that's a smart move cutting the tabs after 2 cuz you know they will fit you're working hard on this one I heat the bubble in the middle when it's on the outside helps it lay down like butter
It was sticking so I had to add more solution to get it laying down and to look better. It's a tough area with a lot of tension the way I pulled and stretched the film.
@@FadeToBlackLLC yes yes good job man...
Had one today kicked my butt did it twice...
Makes the day interesting. Lol
Yeah becouse that back window is curved on both sides it's a pain in the butt
Curved and it gets deeper in the middle.
@@FadeToBlackLLC yeah for sure
Nice car. Those wheels are ugly tho.
