    This is an excellent video for a DYI formica countertop installation. Thanks for including some improv steps you had to come up with to make it work. Some of the pro install videos usually do not include any of this since they have the skill and tools that most DYI folks do not have.

    Your situation was almost identical to mine. I learned so much from this, and the potential pitfalls to avoid. The OSB brace was a great idea! I only learned about the 3/4" extra pieces when I couldn't open my cabinet drawers. Good to see how they're put in. I have gapitis but now I might try shaving the back. I haven't glued yet, or cut off the extra.

    I just subscribed to your channel. I have been working with my brothers for almost one year doing all types of home remodeling, but sometimes there are projects I have no clue how to do it, and they go by their little experience. I rather to 'INVEST' enough time watching videos just like yours. A lot of questions were answered while watching you, and with the mistakes we made, now I could say there is a better and more professional way to do this.
    Thank you so much. You took the time to explain enough and the quality of the video, the sound both are excellent.

    How would you modify it if you have an L shaped counter with the base of the L wider and not against a wall because it extends creating a small bar top edge for stools? Everything in stock that I've seen isn't wide enough to accommodate the width of the bar top.

    • @LongshotGarage
      @LongshotGarage  11 месяцев назад

      To the best of my knowledge you can't do that with pre-made countertops like I used. At least I've never seen any wider than this . You can always have custom-made laminate countertops to suit your needs.

    Im curious on the sink cut out. Since there isnt alot of space to get a jigsaw or circular saw back there, I wonder if predrilling the holes then cutting the backside near the faucet underneath first? Is that possible?

    • @LongshotGarage
      @LongshotGarage  Год назад +1

      Absolutely, you could do that. I feel you would have to install the countertop to make sure you get the holes aligned perfectly before you cut. Then you would have to remove the countertop, flip it over, cut that hole and hope you don't damage anything in the process of removing and reinstalling the countertop. There's always more than one way to get these jobs done!

    • @LongshotGarage
      @LongshotGarage  9 месяцев назад

      You're welcome, glad I could help! I installed some 3/4 inch mdf on top of the lazy Susan, like I did on top of the other cabinets to space up/support the countertop. I didn't attach anything to the wall itself below the countertop behind the lazy Susan. but your comment got me thinking it wouldn't hurt To add something, just below the back edge of the countertop, to the wall that would support the very back of the lazy Susan. Granted, as I remember there was only one stud I probably could have attached to. If you have space I suggest trying to add something -- better too much support than not enough! Good luck!

Is this considered "vintage" now? I would have sealed the raw edges of the particle board, both sides, at the countertop miter. Think of it like sealing end grain on wood. Seal it with silicone or at least the latex acrylic caulk. That way that long corner miter of particle board won't swell under the laminate if water gets into the miter.

    Hi what’s the name of this color? Thank you

      @LongshotGarage  13 дней назад

      @@LoneStarAcre I honestly don't think I ever looked at the name I just grabbed the one I liked! 🤣 Try going to the Lowe's website and search "laminate countertop," and click on one. There will be five color choices. This might be White Bardiglio or Ouro Romano.

    Who cut the 45 thY joins the 2? Lowes ?

    • @LongshotGarage
      @LongshotGarage  Год назад +1

      No way, I wouldn't trust Lowe's with that! Just kidding Lowe's, you're awesome, but that is a complicated cut. Each laminate section came cut from the factory to a perfect 45゚ angle with notches for the under-cabinet bolts.

    Looks good, but 2 things that would make it better. Dishwasher and add a piece of molding to your top cabinets so there is no grease and dust trap to clean. Nice looking kitchen for the price

    • @LongshotGarage
      @LongshotGarage  Год назад +1

      I do agree, keeping the dishwasher would have been better, but sacrifices had to be made! 🤣 I also did consider some kind of molding for the top of the upper cabinets and was even considering making a drywall box up there. I'm curious what the new owners will do.

      There's more than one to get any job done... I didn't want there to be any confusion on what line to cut, which is why I added the blue tap over the yellow tape at the end. Measure twice, cut once! 😁

    The kits are made for their counters; why aren't the trim pieces a closer fit?

    • @LongshotGarage
      @LongshotGarage  Месяц назад

      It would be nearly impossible to glue the end pieces perfectly in place if they were exact. Installing, then trimming makes for a perfect fit everytime!

    Nothing wrong with laminate. Apparently you can adjust the bolts dor the split under the cabinets but the saw horses seemed to work. I'm small enough to fit under easily.
