Very nice! And great playing! My mind actually didn't drift to Jimi. It took me more to a... Fender Coronado II with a Fuzz or something like that. A modern spaghetti Western movie... and a Bourbon in my hand 😁
I've watched that video. I love it when he says, 'I was scared half to death' after he stopped the 1st attempt. It's a great moment and yeh he's killer on it.
You know it was such a big gap between recording these things, it's tough to recall the sounds. The leslie I liked on the Dark Side because I remember it had the blend between the rotary and flanger, which I thought was great for making the effect more pronounced. I think maybe I'd go for the Monterey with the fuzz because of the high octave, made it really scream on the lead stuff.
As usual- ppl hear the saying "tone is in the fingers" and they misunderstand what it means and take it way too far. Yes, Jimi did have an amazing ability to get great tones out of just his Strat and a cranked amp- Clapton has talked about that quite a bit. But he didn't mean that you can sound like Voodoo child using nothing but your fingers- that's ridiculous. Tons of Jimi's music is dripping in effects and if you want that same sound- then you need those kinds of effects. Doesn't have to be the same brand or anything- but you have to have something similar.
Exactly that. You know you can make an acoustic sound like Meshuggah if you play hard enough?!... Haha, I jest of course! Jimi used just about everything that was available to him at the time, I'm sure he'd do the same if he was still around, although he'd be 81 now and probably wouldn't like anything with an app! Can you picture Jimi putting on his glasses to read a manual?!

Even Jimi on an acoustic playing Hear my Train a Comin' is unmistakabley him.

Which had the better Fuzz tones, this or the Dark Side, or were they the same?

Two different fuzzes. The Darkside is a big muff style fuzz. The Monterey is more fuzz face.

"Ya Plonkers" 🤣🤣 I must say, I don't like the term pigeon hole, it sounds like an avian sex crime 🕊 🤔 Oh and nice playing as usual Ben.
Haha! Pigeon porn! I joke, but it probably already exists somewhere. Thanks, man.
That is a pedal I won't be buying.
