    the Univibe effect here is so delish. i can feel my inner Dean Ween getting browner by the second. Mr. Keeley and his team are SO good at their jobs. While i have just one Keeley box, it's been my main dedicated delay since the week it was released- i can't find any reason to replace it, and if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Thanks for another guided deep dive into the sonic swimming pool we all share.

      Totally agreed. And I love the univibe here, though I concede that it is a very subjective thing.

    The slow sweep really got me too. This is definitely a magical device. And the aesthetics don't bother me either: It's georgeous and really inspires me to places I want to go. Thanks for sharing.

    Wow, that’s a versatile pedal. I dig Keeley stuff, my favorite distortion of all time is the Filaments. Six knobs and three switches and it’s basically impossible to make it sound bad. I’ve had literally 100+ dirt pedals over the years and nothing has ever blown me away like that one does.

    What a beautiful looking pedal and incredibly, sonically precise. Keeley does such fine work. He’s really nailed the sounds of that era in that specific moment in time and location.
    That’s the best rotary sound I’ve heard from a pedal that isn’t a Boss RT-20. That’s certainly not a ding against it, I just rarely see pedals that are any good at rotary.
    Really enjoyed both of these jams!
    Ahhhhh, the slow sweep univibe. That’s the stuff. ✌️😌🎸

    I am so glad you're doing this one- I have always struggled to make sense of all its options but never owned one, those that do have it tell me it's irreplaceable and that the fuzz is very unique- it's not toooo octavey? Reminds me of the keeley WolFF fuzz on the right side of this pedal.

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, the fuzz is interesting. There’s not a lot of ways to shape it from knobs, it’s really more about what you feed into it. Hot pickups make it sing, and the octave bit is added in from the knob, so it’s just as much as you like. I just happen to be an all-or-nothing kind of octave person :)

  • @stingylizard

    Yes,all that! The included wah grows on you and becomes essential in the studio.Two Monterey's are best--expensive but amazing tones. The Monterey and a Ventura vibe go swell together,too. Seriously,a wah plus those two pedals into a decent amp are great fun. Played through a quality tube amp...Monterey all day long. Cheers,subscribed

    Speedy recovery on the poison ivy. I'm one of the lucky 15% or so who don't really get the full effect, but I've seen how bad it can be.

    Great job demoing this pedal and breaking down the interaction between the controls. However, I did own this and returned it immediately as I felt it offered a lot - yet what was offered was all subpar.

    Year of the Univibe! What a great pedal. Thanks for such a thorough demo. Robert Keeley really is a wizard. The harmonic wah was a treat to hear. The univibe setting sounded great and I dig the fuzz. I think I now need this pedal for the studio. Keep up the good work. And do more heavy jams, please… it was catchy and a nice change of pace. Bravo, good sir! Which guitar did you like best through this pedal?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! I've got something heavy in mind for the next one, we'll see if it survives the ideation process :) I tried a couple of guitars, but I think the neck pickup of my G&L ASAT was my favorite. It's a really hot pickup, and I it seemed to line up nicely with the fuzz and the wah effects.,

      Fuzz Face is not the best thing to use as a boost before another overdrive, so put your drive with true bypass before Monterey and do not use Fuzz as main drive tning.
      I overlooked this pedal before but now think it is very underrated.

    I'm about to go for the germanium version but am scared it'll be overly sensitive about buffers and what not. Is this version buffered in a way that prevents that ? I assumed maybe all of them had an input buffer since they allow the order to be swapped to modulation first, but perhaps it maintains the first transistor position to the input jack of the pedal, before splitting to modulation zone.
    Let me know if any thoughts!

    I've tried (owned, actually) synth vibes. One was a Lovepedal vibe, and the other was my first, the Roger Mayer vibe, fuzz (didn't like it) and octave in one enclosure, but you could place each effect in any place you wanted.
    Bottom line - the vibes in both were severely lacking. I note it here too. I just gotta have the photocell thing happening.

  • @jomarivera8670

    How will you place this if you have a Klon, Tube Screamer and 1981 drv? Before or after overdrive? Also what mini expression pedal would you recommend to use with built in Wah?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  Год назад

      Honestly, really depends on a ton of things. Probably easier to just try it out. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the wah in it, but I typically like my wah up front. Normally I put modulation towards the end, but with univibe, I like it more towards the front. I don’t have any mini expression pedals to recommend, but the guitarist in my cover band has the Dunlop DVP4 and I know he loves it.

    That's a great vibe but I've yet to see any vibe top the Effectrode Tube Vibe. I don't have a dog in this fight, since I'm still saving up for that unit. But none of the other units seem to have the watery clarity and transparency of the Effectrode unit, which for me, comes closest to the stunning sound Robin Trower got on the Bridge Over Sights track. The other units get the fluid morphing wah-ish tonal change of the original vibe, but always sounding a bit muddy to me like its coming from under a thin blanket. The Effectrode is the only unit I've heard so far that doesn't have that quality, but the price tag is steep so I can see why many guitarists opt for more inexpensive units.
