Oh the memories! This game was my first ever FPS experience. Me and my cousin used to play this game together at 8 years old. We used the arrow keys to move around and did not understand what they were saying in the game (English 2nd language) at the time but loved it anyways and we used to say "where are you Marshall" to each other until high school as an inside joke 😁 Thank you for the good memories Gggmanlives. I Still have the double CD in a shelve by my desk. If you put the CD in a CD-stereo player it plays the soundtrack for the game ❤
Really!? Oh my god, I've been occationally searching for somewhere to get it in a proper working version. Played it as a kid and loved it, never found it again in grownup age. Thank you! :)

My dad is a huge Western nerd and I remember being very small sitting by the computer watching him play this game. It was so much fun to even watch, and sometimes I played it, even though I wasn't that good. Watching this video gave me some serious nostalgia!
This game is on Steam now for $6. TOTALLY worth it. Even in 2019 this game has modern controls, smooth gameplay, and is just all around amazing for how old it is.

Absolutely loved this game as a child, my dad did too and played it lots as well. The "where are you Marshall" line stuck with me to this day and I won't ever forget it. Thanks for the video
Reading through the comments it's so nice to see that not only did other people play this game as a kid (I myself played this at the age of 6) but to see how many others love it to the point where it holds a special place in their heart. I have absolutely adored this game since I was a kid, and the soundtrack is truly amazing. My favourite is Anna's theme from the cliff level and I too will also hold this game and my experiences and nostalgia close to my heart always.
This channel is such a nostalgia trip for me. I only ever played the demo and I remember this game was hard as fuck. I can't believe we don't see more first person westerns. There's something so satisfying about shooting revolvers. We had Red Dead, but that was third person and pretty much every single western shooter HAS to incorporate some bullshit OP "Matrix mode" where you mark a bunch of enemies and shoot them all in a split second. Even Overwatch uses this mechanic! C'mon guys, just give us a pure shooter without the aim hax.
Hey guys if you want to join a group of people who still actively play this game online together (YES, THE MULTIPLAYER STILL WORKS!) then search for Outlaws Players Lucas Arts on Facebook. Some of the original game developers from LucasArts are also in the group! Thumbs up so people can see this :)
Yeah mostly that the controls and the fact the engine wasn't true 3d was a bit problematic for things like physics even simple ones. And fun fact, that game had "3D scopes" before any other FPS, heh, it deserves a prize just for that. Other than that it's a fantastic game with a lot of western movie references :)
I really love your reviews. I didn't play that many fps growing up because of having no computer during 90s. But i really learn the history and the classics of the genre and what it has grown from. Ty for your reviews and keep up the sick work!
By far one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had, this game was a masterpiece. It's what got me started on the FPS genre, Outlaws, Perfect Dark, and Phantasy Star Online are the greatest games ever made, they all deserve an HD remake.
5:30 "But those people who were fortunate enough to play it, will tell you just how good it was". Damn right, partner. LOVED this game, and it wasn't easy at all. And your right on the music too... absolutely masterful pastiche, just hearing those tunes again... think I'ma gonna cry!. A true classic from the truely classic period of video games.
When this game came out, I was working tech support for Gateway 2000, in North Sioux City, SD. Around the time of it's release, we started shipping a product called "The Destination". It was a full multimedia machine, designed for home theater applications, with an enormous (at the time) monitor. When it launched, the Destination has its own dedicated support team, and, as it was expensive, there were only a few out there. A co-worker reported that he took a support call from none other than John DeLancie, who voiced the character of "Dr. Death" in the game. When my co-worker was naming off some games that he enjoyed playing, as suggestions for Mr. DeLancie to take advantage of such a system, he asked him if he'd ever heard of a game called "Outlaws". He laughed and admitted that he'd probably heard of it in passing somewhere.
Been looking forward to this review since I discovered your channel over half a year ago. Great to see that you got the game running in the end and did a review of it (on my birthday :P) Loved this game, played it all the time with a friend of mine. I think we played through it every other week for 2 years. Soundtrack was awesome. Oh and I think it was the first multiplayer game I played (via the Microsoft Zone or something). Keep up the good work, love your stuff
You nailed the review! There was something about the game that created an emotional attachment. Those cut scenes were so cinematic, the levels were varied and purposeful. I'm surprised they haven't released a new version.
Did not try the others but this one I really enjoyed! Far from perfect, but man the vibes of this game : the narration, the tight arcade gameplay! Really loved it!
i'v tried it (because i'v seen your message), this is piece of shiet, the engine is unprecise realy strange ghost collision and random physic, unclear enemis, noob friendly (you just can't die even in hard, you don't care about taking shots, life regen realy strong..) this game is piece of shiet don't even look at it
First FPS to include a scope and reloading mechanics.. ever!!.. It's a beautiful game. Super stylish, great story and music. Miss the days of playing this for hours.
Man, oh, man, this was a classic! Considering that when it came out there were no real western games out, this was a breath of fresh air. A lot of fun, imaginative, and that incredible soundtrack! A forgotten gem, for sure.
Great video, thanks. Outlaws was one of my favorite games back in the day. Thanks for the review. I noticed recently that Outlaws is on GoG and I got it and it works perfect. Brings me back to being a teen in the '90s. I have really come to love your channel too.
Disgusting deranged smiley. Only total a--holes and perverts use it, I'm sure of this by now. And after all, you "specially" selected it. Just deranged all-around.
Man this is pure nostalgia, I remember I got the CD-Rom demo of this game on a PC Gamer magazine back in the day (back when they'd give huge portions of games as demos), and have to say betweem this and Dark Forces and Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, these were my favourite PC games. I still remember all the maps, the cheats, etc nearly 25 years later. The 90s was such a great time to be a kid who was into gaming!
This was the very first localized game I played. It was completely ported to pt-br, with a superb dub and I remember playing it a lot as a kid. Lots of love for this game.
I remember playing the everliving crap out of this. I love it so much. the scope was amazing (picture in picture), the Gattling gun, the alien egg, artstyle, Music... Just every thing. 1 Level was really Hard for my young brain though. the one were you had to collect gears and Put them together. especially considering that I have the english Version.. when I didnt even speak english back then. XD still have the OST in my USB in my car though and every now and then i Spaghetti them through my Speakers while driving down the road....
I remember hanging out at Wizards of the Coast when I was a kid playing multiplayer over LAN. Still one of my favorite FPS of all times and still have my box in the closet.
This was the game of my childhood, internet gaming zone multiplayer was pretty much dedicated on my comp to Outlaws and DF 2 Jedi Knight deathmatches, ugh I miss them so much. Great to see this game get a little attention.
I grew up on this game. It was one of the first I ever played and the first I ever REALLY played and tried to find every single thing in it. Loved it to death and wish I could get it working properly again. I still have the old physical copy from back in the 90s
Outlaws is one of my favorite PC games, and along with SiN and Blood, one of the best FPS games of them all. One thing I would have mentioned in the review is the puzzle-like layout of some of the levels. I felt like LucasArts early FPS games benefited from the company's focus on adventure games. Dark Forces and Outlaws had levels that required a lot more thought than most contemporary competition.
I was totally addicted to this game in the late 90s and I was in my late thirties back then. I loved the old Clint Eastwood Westerns and this game reminded me of those old movies.
Man I remember playing this game a kid, whenever I couldn't get far playing the game Killing time, or DOOM. Or even those point and click games, I would come back to this game and just play the hell out of it. I love the soundtrack, and I know a lot of the songs to the point I could mouth-trumpet the songs and whistle along with them.
Now that the XL engine has resumed development, we'll finally be able to get a nice updated version of this to play soon (along with Dark Forces, Blood, and Daggerfall).
This game will always have a special place in my heart, why? Outlaws is the first videogame I played in my life at the meaningless age of 3. Well, it was just the demo with the second (and best) level, but it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Had a chance to play the demo back when it came out...but 2 years ago, I finally played the full game, managed to install it on my Win7 and play it in Widescreen.... This game's soundtrack really is one of the best for a videogame! I have the full ost and I still listen to it from time to time...
I remember playing this game on my aunt's PC that still had Windows 98 in 2008. It had one of those fat-ass RCT monitors with a white case. It was sure dated, but for post-war Bosnia that was pretty sweet. I remember being stunned by the sheer concept of actually playing a video game. I barely understood any English at that time, but boy was it cool to be a cowboy.
GOG has finally added this on the site! Works on any PC Windows 7/8! Like this so people can see were to get it working for cheap! And this has to be my favorite game from my childhood
have you thought about building a retro PC for these types of games? I built a 2000ish PC running Win98 and Win2000 which is great for games like this.
I have some vintage 1990's PC's. Outlaws (1997) has support for the amazing Diamond Monster (MX100 The original) Sound Card that came out in 1997 which supports true 3D sounds based on NASA virtual reality simulator technology with A3D by Aureal Semiconductor. In fact Outlaws came bundled with the first Diamond Monster Sound card.As a vintage PC component they are somewhat hard to obtain.I was lucky enough to have acquired 2 of them on eBay and they can fetch a good price too like around $50 U.S.D. I think that the later MX200 sound cards would work with this game too but they too are also rare as well Also there was a 3Dfx patch for Outlaws as well. The 3Dfx graphic accelerator cards are easier to acquire and less rare. This game works with a Voodoo 1 type graphics accelerator card like the Diamond Monster 3D card. I am running Outlaws on a Pentium 200Mhz MMX system with Windows 95 (b) (and with those previous two PC components that I mentioned) which was the most powerful system when this game was released.
I got this on GOG today and I installed it and it ran with only one issue. The joystick controls were set to active so my character would immediately look up to the sky and walk forward at all times until I turned that control option off. Otherwise I installed it, and it ran without any other problems. Get it on GOG. Works great.
I loved this game. The first taste I got was from the demo on a gaming magazine CD, which contained the first level. It's one of those games where the difficulty makes you earn the right to play the next level. Plus if you get frustrated enough, with unfairly being killed by an unseen enemy, you don't feel bad about using the cheats to have some Rambo-esque fun. The gatling gun is awesome for this purpose and the cheats allow you to hand wield what is normally a stationery weapon. I have very fond memories of playing this game and if I can get it working again, I would definitely put some playtime into it...
awesome game! super awesome soundtrack! downloaded it over GOG and had no problem with playing it on my windows x pc. Love to feel back in the 90ies.... loved that game by then. Love it still now - 30 years later :-). Btw. Thanks a lot for this review!
Spent a lot of nights playing this with my best friend over dial up modem. Just something about the charm of the Old West, and the crude brilliant perfection of this game; sitting outside the edge of town just waiting to pick each other off with the rifle scope...good, actually great, times
Best western FPS I've ever played. LOVE this game. And there has been none other like it. This game lives and breathes Spaghetti Western. The looks, the sound, the music. And, yeah I would definitely pay for an HD upgrade or a sequel!
Holy shit! I've been looking everywhere for this... I grew up playing this game at LAN parties on multiplayer. I get so nostalgic thinking about it. Need to try and get it to work
i remember spending hours and hours in my local netcafe playing Outlaws on local network with my friends, good times where the third botton on the mouse showed why you needed it. Great game and great memories!
Man I loved playing this game! I'm 15 now but I used to play this game on my dad's computer all the time! He still has the original CD's to install the game! I'm never a real fan of game music because I always turn it off but Outlaws music was amazing!
Whenever I see a Modelo Commercial and I hear that song (The Ecstatsy of Gold) I start daydreaming of Outlaws! Growing up it was one of the few games I actually went straight to the store and bought for Windows. Between the dynamite physics and the sniper rifle, it was a long-shot blast to play! Seriously, I spent weeks doing my own Crysis-styled explosions with the dynamite. I discovered that there was a threshold between where it would do near-neighbor chain reaction explosions and LILO-ordered explosions. I also discovered a nice bug where if you threw dynamite into the room with the final boss, it would reset the cinema scene for each explosion. (I believe they patched it later that year).
In my top 5 FPS of all time. Bought it the year it came out. Shadow Warrior was another amazing old school FPS, if that got the remake treatment (twice), Outlaws should definitely get the same treatment!
I was Playing Smokin' Guns a standalone mod of Quake III and i was impressed by the athmosphere and design that the mod recreates more in a sense of simulation than in the arcade one, only the High Noon Drifter mod for Doom looks more appealing, i was disapointed with Call of Juarez Gunslinger, and Gun was fine but i was wanting some FPS in the Wild West mood, maybe im gonna give it a try to this Outlaws from 90's the golden era of FPS.
I've been playing the new GOG version which installs easily on Win 7 64bit. It's using nGlide to make use of 3dfx drivers and looks great. The music really makes this game. It's also cheap at $6. If you ever wanted to play this, now would be the time.
I picked this up at a thrift store a few months back. I haven't had a chance to play it, but copying the files straight onto the disk seemed to be enough for me to get it running in Windows 7
Oh the memories! This game was my first ever FPS experience. Me and my cousin used to play this game together at 8 years old. scar3crow I believe that this game was actually the first to feature a scope.

This game will always have a special place in my heart, why? Outlaws is the first videogame I played in my life at the meaningless age of 3. Well, it was just the demo with the second (and best) level, but it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
OMG! I played this game so many times... so many memories... Thx for your vid and the good memories. Have a nice day sir. :)
wow this bought back memories of reading the review in Hyper magazine way back when :P
Great video yet again man!
i love this game so much, 25+ years later ill still replay it
I grew up playing this, it was my main FPS as a youngster. Fantastic game.
Had a chance to play the demo back when it came out...but 2 years ago, I finally played the full game, managed to install it on my Win7 and
play it in Widescreen....
So Gggman... do you think there is gonna be a Brutal Outlaws.... Im really interested to hear what you think
One of my all time favourite FPS games while growing up. Outlaws was truly unique
I think that the later MX200 sound cards would work with this game too but they too are also rare as well
Also there was a 3Dfx patch for Outlaws as well.
Dash I'm in the process of doing so but I have everything except a cpu cooler and its an AMD chip
"Oh! I'm cold. Hold me." "I'm holdin' ya." James Anderson is cold too, it seems. ICE cold 🤣
Well now we know that 84k people have heard of this game so ggg, you're making progress
I remember this game way ahead of its time.
I had totally forgotten this game, some good memories seeping in while watching.
Man i love this game, i first played it on my uncle's computer about 15 yrs ago and i fell in love with it directly
Much better Western game than Call of Jaurez.
I got this on GOG today and I installed it and it ran with only one issue. The joystick controls were set to active so my character would immediately look up to the sky and walk forward at all times until I turned that control option off.
Otherwise I installed it, and it ran without any other problems. Get it on GOG. Works great.
Found this year for four years for 3€, bought it, played it and loved it!
Until today the best western shooter with the best soundtrack ever!
I loved this game as a kid. Totally forgot about it until now
This is #1 game of my childhood!
I used to play this with my brother when I was 6-7. Loved this game.
Holy shit! I've been looking everywhere for this... I grew up playing this game at LAN parties on multiplayer. I get so nostalgic thinking about it. Need to try and get it to work
This is one of the first games I've ever played, I've been looking for it for years ... thanks for the video.🙁❤❤❤❤
i remember spending hours and hours in my local netcafe playing Outlaws on local network with my friends, good times where the third botton on the mouse showed why you needed it. Great game and great memories!
Great times brother😔
I remember playing this game while I was playing it, at the time I was playing it.
loved this game, still have a copy of it somewhere i think..
I would 100% buy the remake if it ever happens. My father and I played this game in the 90s and have good memories of it.
I remember playing this back in the day when it first came out, it's one of the first PC games I remember playing.
I played a demo of this back in the day and man did I love it. I recently downloaded it and did enjoy the game.
I bought it at the time, there was a Sherif star in it. I spend nights playing it. Music is amazing. Great memories and great game.
i remember watching my dad play this game, i completely forgot about it...wow, thanks gman
"Wheere aree youuu marshalll?" "WHEREAREYOUMARSHAL!?"
In my top 5 FPS of all time. Bought it the year it came out. Shadow Warrior was another amazing old school FPS, if that got the remake treatment (twice), Outlaws should definitely get the same treatment!
Remember me and my dad trying to work out this game when i was younger. Great memories! :)
I can't believe that in this whole review you didn't mention the best and most memorable thing about the whole game - SOUNDTRACK!
Loved this game so much when I was a kid. This, and Dark Forces.
I picked this up at a thrift store a few months back. I haven't had a chance to play it, but copying the files straight onto the disk seemed to be enough for me to get it running in Windows 7
