How to make the BEST cheese grits !

  • Hey y'all!! These are the BEST grits ever!!! Everyone always ask me how I make my grits because they are slap ya mama, ya auntie and your cousin good !! Cheesy, creamy , and thick ! No soupy ass grits allowed where I'm from! Here's what you'll need
    1 cup quick grits
    4 cups water
    1 tablespoon of knorrs seasoning or chicken bouillon
    1 tablespoon salt
    1 cup heavy cream
    2 tablespoon butter
    Cheese of choice .. now on this part please use as much cheese as you'd like . I just eyeballed mine . And adjust as needed !

    I made mine with quaker old fashioned grits, chicken broth, & milk. Cooked for about twenty minutes and then add cheese in the end. Yum! Yum! Never ate grits in my life until I moved to the South. Now it's one of my favorite dishes. Y'all just keep bringing the Southern girl out of me.

    I just finished making these grits. My husband is southern and don’t play about soul food period. He is currently licking his plate and the pot. I made a mishap in the preparation and my grits are soupy. He said that I should open a restaurant and sell these grits. Lol. Thanks for making our Saturday brunch at home memorable.

    I don't eat nobody grits but mine but I'm going to try those. We make our kind of similar I use chicken broth instead of water the white queso cheese( mild) sharp cheddar and sour cream they be bussin lol

      So what do you add the sour cream for? Is it to replace the milk or cream or is it for more flavor... how did you even go about doing that anyway

      Reginald Middleton it just has more flavor. My grandma puts sour cream in our mash potatoes and they taste amazing. Makes them creamy also

      Sk8ergirl Nia Sour cream is amazing in homemade mashed potatoes, but not sure about using it in grits!

      Buy some Lactaid at the drugstore and take it before eating any dairy foods. I take it again after eating. Of course, I do not know your stomach problem and I am not a doctor.

    I can always taste the little dry pieces of grits, no matter what method I choose. Feel like giving up. But I like them so much & so do my sons/hubby. But their standards are different. Just about anything is good to them. I'll try this & see what happens.
    Edit: My grits never tasted this GOOD! This is the Best grits recipe I've come across!

    I made these this morning, I added some chopped up bacon in the grits and on top before serving. By far the best grits I’ve ever had, my wife who swore off grits after eating them in the army many years ago actually had seconds. Thanks for the recipe!

    Yes ma’am!!! I do something similar instead I use better than bouillon!! It makes me soooo upset when people serve grits and don’t know how to make it! Really hurts my soul. 😂😂😂

    I’ve been practicing making the perfect grits the past week or so and I think I cracked the code! The bouillon seasoning DEFINITELY makes it better 100%. I like just cheddar cheese in mine, and I just use half and half it works great. This time I decided to get some Publix chicken tenders and cut it up to put on top, and man is it good. I also added some bacon bits and hot sauce and I’m in heaven 😍❤️

      My boyfriend loved egg in his grits. Last time we tried scrambled, this time I branched out and attempted a poached egg; still a work in progress but he says it’s very good!!

    So I stumbled across your grit post... I'm from Brooklyn...& I got some grits, did it like you showed...wife loved it, & so do I! Used Irish butter in place. Spot On

    My first time making grits was yesterday and they was hard. I'm expecting for it to just take 5 minutes. Now I'm re-cooking then to soften them more as I watch your video. Thank you. I made a vegan version added Almond milk nutritional yeast and organic better than bouillon and it tastes really good thank you for sharing.

      I remember the first time I made grits it was tricky bcuz it said 5 minutes ago I thought that's how long you had to cook them...Mine still hear hard grains in them... They needed to cook for at least 15-20 minutes 🤦🤦🤦🤦 But as with everything practice makes perfect.. So I'm gonna get them right one day

    Just made them today, that bouillon baby I didn't gave the powder so I got some cubes. 1 1/2 cubes will be all you need. That flavor! Sopped up!

    That is pretty much how I do mine. Few things differently. But THANK YOU for saying, just because it's quick grits, you do need to cook them longer! No-body want sand and butter! But love, i'd love to see your take on shrimp & grits recipe.

    So excited to try making these!! It'll be dicey since I'm out of cream, had to substitute buttermilk fingers crossed 😅 but wow do they look amazing in the video, I'll be picking up cream tomorrow to make them exactly the same next time!! Thanks so much for sharing! Now that me and my partner moved to the south I wanna learn how to cook more southern things! 😁
    Update: they turned out delicious!! I agree with other comments about being too salty, I just added a bit more hot water and it was fine, topped with paprika, rosemary, parsley and bacon bits! Delish

    I just saw a pic on Facebook in a cooking group; someone had made your butter pecan cake. It looked so damn good so of course I had to come check out your RUclips channel. Glad I did! These grits look awesome. I've never seen a recipe that calls for chicken boullion. Will definitely have to try! 😍.     OMG I'm from up North, way up North (WA State) I'd never made grits, only ate em once or twice in my life. They just don't serve em up here.
    I just made these and they are absoulutely fantastic!! The only recipe variations was I didn't have chicken bullion so used beef.
    I halved the recipe. I used 2 cups water and 1/2 cup milk with some Mexican table cream added to bring the milk fat level up. Cheddar cheese & butter.
    Next time I'll double the recipe. Had no idea how good grits are. Thank you.

    Thank you so much for saying quick grits need more time. I can not stand when someone wants to cook them for 10, 15 minutes. They need a solid 30 minutes.

    This is it!! Don’t matter if it says quick and ignore those package directions or they’ll be tough, gotta go slow and 20-30 mins!

    I’ve made these grits a couple of times now and all I can say is GLORYYYyY. It’s the first time I can eat grits without sugar. Don’t judge me I’m originally from the south. Lol. Eating them now with some fried catfish. Gawd all mighteeee

    Thank You for this delightful video. Your personality really shines thru. I do love so much of the South. Gonna make these cheesy grits w/ some x-large fresh shrimps for the wife tonight. If you really like cajun or blackened shrimp, try Szechuan peppered shrimp. It's next-level in that same spice-flavor profile. I aim for Butter "critical mass".
