Elvis took his inspiration for this song from Roy Hamilton's version done well before the righteous brothers covered it. Roy was a hero to Elvis. What makes this so amazing is he passed away about 2 months later after a 6 week break from touring and was due to leave for Portland Oregon to kick off another round of touring. Unfortunately for us God called him home and no one asked for their money back. They hold those unused tickets like they are gold. His tour was already sold out as usual. I still remember that day. The first time in history the death of an entertainer was the lead story and all the networks worked quickly to get movies of his life out. His funeral was so beautiful and so many people from around the world gathered the streets to see his white limo. Flags flew at half staff and not only did Memphis, the whole state of Tennessee and Mississippi cry out the whole world cried together. He is so missed. Just think he had a fear of being forgotten. He will live forever through us and now you young people discovering his amazing talent and that extra something that made him so special.
To see Elvis like this makes my eyes Misty he was in better physical and vocal health in early 60s this song is a classic unchained Melody as you see he would have done a better job between 60 and 63 his vocal talents was better around this time a more healthy Elvis The voice more revine I say it one more time early 60s more healthy 1977 is not the real Elvis Presley this is the creation of Colonel Parker just for the dollar bill Elvis definitely was at his best in the 50s early 60s Nashville this kind of knowledge keep the real Elvis knowledgeable Elvis fan grinning he was great through his whole life but at his best in the beginning in his prime he could do it all fight dance ACT and sing early years he was at his best and long live the king

I loved elvis Presley he was a special man . Loved every one. But this video breaks my heart he was struggling he knew his time was coming. Look at his assistant with the mic the look in that mans eyes watching his Boss and probably close friend struggling to make it through that song. He knew !! R.I.P. King
I agree with you Jay it was like a totally different tune. Just great but every time I watch this video it makes me so sad to know Elvis dies 6 weeks later. :-(
The great thing about this man is something very special This performance was his last Even deteriorating physically and so one, everyone noticed that his performances and amazing voice stills the same I mean powerful smooth playing with it the way he wanted to You can see that in an other song form the same concert called HURT R.I.P
The guy holding the mic,, Charlie Hodge, adored Elvis and was so dedicated to doing whatever Elvis needed and wanted. It was as if he knew just what to do and when. He was so devastated when Elvis died it was very pitiful to see him in his interview on August 16, 1977
This performance and his last aired performance of My Way (especially the version from the docudrama This is Elvis where they play this last aired performance where the programme cuts over the song some images of Elvis over his life, of Elvis smiling etc) always has me in tears. The moment I like in this is that although he looks ill and you know he is at the end of his life, when he turns and smiles he suddenly looks young and like 'Elvis' again. Thank you for doing these reactions and for sharing your thoughts as well...
This was his sundial suit. He was very sick at this last performance. They asked him if he wanted to shorten the concert as he became very short of breath at this time in concert. ELVIS said" the show must go on for my fans"
Elvis has such a wondeful voice, there won't be another Elvis. This was sad too because I believe this was his last performance before he passed away. Awesome singer and I am glad people still can appreciate such an amazing soulful voice.
Your still smiling in the same way, lovely to see because he's not the same man here, I think he'd lost the will to live. Like all Elvis fans we still saw through the man he'd become, and still loved him. So unbelievably 😥
Avendo saputo che la sua fine era vicina, apprezzo infinitamente questo regalo che Elvis ha voluto fare ai suoi fans.... mi ha straziato il cuore e piangere tanto. Era veramente una creatura speciale, che DIO lo benedica! R.I.P. Angelo mio - la solita vecchia mamma che prega per te.
I saw his very last tour that summer of 1977. At the Providence Civic Center in R.I. He just didn't look well at all. Obviously he had gained all that weight, and he was conscious of it too. Just the way he moved around on stage, you could tell he just didn't have that same Elvis confidence anymore. He was a very proud man, and carrying that extra weight didn't do much for the confidence he always had. But that aside, it was still Elvis Presley. It was the KING OF ROCK & ROLL baby! And one thing about that man that NEVER, EVER, EVER changed? That damned incredible voice of his ! Wow it was absolutely awesome!!!!
Even weeks before he passed. He did as he always did. His best. We all struggle some days. Like he was during this. But he got out there and did it!!! Honor ,dedication, fit only for a king
Elvis took this song to a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL. The uptight clean rehearsed to the last note version of The Rightous Bros just fell flat. Elvis put that passion, pain, struggle, etc in it. You mentioned the suit...it's my favorite....called the 'Sundial Suit.' It was one of his favs too since he wore it nearly 50 times just in 1977. Seeing it in person is something else. Costing about $10k at the time. All the embroidery, metal & copper studs, mirror plates, amber stones & the bead work is flawless. Regardless of what some may say, there are hidden messages like many of his stage suits. The Sundial represented TIME, used ancient symbols, meaning and knowledge to depict one's life path, predicted astronomical events. It was a calendar. It also had an 'End Date.' PEACE!
So sad and so sick here at the end of his life coming nearer. Still a King even here. He loved music , but sadly the lifestyle and the drugs as well as a broken heart took him away from us. R.I.P.
I wish more of the people recording their reaction to this knew this was his last live performance and less than two months before he died. There is a version of this with Elvis talking to the crowd and band members and it was a struggle for him to speak, which makes you even more blown away when he starts perfectly belting out the song.
Even though Elvis was in poor health, his voice remained incredible, right to the very end. He is wearing the "sundial suit". Another great Elvis song is called "Mary In The Morning".
So true Elvis could always but there was a time when he was at his most healthiest and vocally had his best early sixties Nashville Elvis voice was at its best I wish you would have sang the song in the early he was the greatest at his best just like Muhammad Ali unfortunately Elvis was not at his best in 1977 still better than 90% of all singers when he was he was healthy in his prime he was better than 100% of the all singers fifties and sixties early 60s from 1968 to 1970 that's when he was definitely at his best 😎✌🏼
Elvis on his worst day was better than everyone else . The untouchable Elvis !!!!!
Once Elvis covered a song....you never could hear it the same any longer!!
Without that song and performance, we wouldn't know about Elvis that much.

Best version of this song.. very distinct and powerful voice…
I agree with you Jay it was like a totally different tune. Just great but every time I watch this video it makes me so sad to know Elvis dies 6 weeks later. :-(
He gave his all.
Elvis in the early 60s would have took it to another level I have a great day ✌🏼😎✋
Rip Elvis Presley 1935_1977 the king 👑
Omg....yess thank you hun💃💋
The great thing about this man is something very special
This performance was his last
Even deteriorating physically and so one, everyone noticed that his performances and amazing voice stills the same
I mean powerful smooth playing with it the way he wanted to
You can see that in an other song form the same concert called HURT
R.I.P
The guy holding the mic,, Charlie Hodge, adored Elvis and was so dedicated to doing whatever Elvis needed and wanted. It was as if he knew just what to do and when. He was so devastated when Elvis died it was very pitiful to see him in his interview on August 16, 1977
The voice never failed him.
There are some wonderful biographies about his life you will be blown away by the kind of man he was. Incredibly generous.
Elvis gave us his ALL !!!
What a powerful voice , his voice always melt my heart . check out one night with you from comeback special ( long version with guitare)
Elvis is still the king ...and This Girl still an angel for me !! I'm here in Brazil dreaming with you !! Make my dream come true honey !!!
King
Omg...If only my mother was here.....she loved him. RIP MOM I MISS YOU 16 YRS.😎❤
That note he hits at 3:49 on the word "mine" and with such power. Like.... WHOA.
This was his sundial suit. He was very sick at this last performance. They asked him if he wanted to shorten the concert as he became very short of breath at this time in concert. ELVIS said" the show must go on for my fans"
I love him so 💝 Elvis never lost his voice. His last concert is hard for me to watch. 😞💔 Poor Elvis !
Elvis has such a wondeful voice, there won't be another Elvis. This was sad too because I believe this was his last performance before he passed away. Awesome singer and I am glad people still can appreciate such an amazing soulful voice.
6 weeks before he died. STILL PERFECTION..
Elvis presley earth angel
Elvis was a gift from god ❤🙏❤
Even weeks before he passed. He did as he always did. His best. We all struggle some days. Like he was during this. But he got out there and did it!!! Honor ,dedication, fit only for a king
Le King avait une voix exeptionnelle...🙏🙏🙏👑👍👌😔😪🎶🎵🎤🌈🌍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
ELVIS is the KING !!!!!!
Thank you for playing Elvis Presley love 💕💖
Elvis has a smile that will melt your heart. Very talented.
So sad and so sick here at the end of his life coming nearer. Still a King even here. He loved music , but sadly the lifestyle and the drugs as well as a broken heart took him away from us. R.I.P.
He could deliver messages seem like no other for his time. No one like Elvis
So sad, this was a short time before Elvis died.🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁
yes he was so sick here & gave his all beautiful song & I love Elvis RIP Elvis your music will never die 7-2-20
The King! Nothing more to say.
I wish more of the people recording their reaction to this knew this was his last live performance and less than two months before he died. There is a version of this with Elvis talking to the crowd and band members and it was a struggle for him to speak, which makes you even more blown away when he starts perfectly belting out the song.
That smile he gives. I never get over it
***amazing**** how he could just conjure-up SHEER power like that. Enough force to launch the space shuttle.
I grew up on Elvis records, they were my moms records. She played them all the time. Elvis at Madison Square Garden was his best album
Even though Elvis was in poor health, his voice remained incredible, right to the very end.
He is wearing the "sundial suit".
Another great Elvis song is called "Mary In The Morning".
Yes...beautiful choice!
He was the king of rock and roll 🎸 the greatest thank you for playing this
If that doesn’t give you chills and make u cry every single time I don’t know what will
The king lives on
