This was one of his last performances. It was filmed for a tv special. He died 6-8 weeks after this was filmed. The special was shown approx a month after his death. We were still reeling from his death, so this was so hard to watch then and even now. Until people saw the special we had no idea how sick he was. When Baz Luhrman shot this scene for the recent Elvis movie he had Austin Butler’ Elvis transition into the real Elvis using this exact footage. The entire audience gasped. I started sobbing.
What you called "super-sized Elvis" was actually a deathly ill man swollen with edema. Charlie Hodge - the guy holding the microphone - was mostly Elvis' right-hand man on stage - keeping the show organized, maintaining the song list for the shows, singing harmony with Elvis, playing piano for certain songs, making sure there was water/Gatorade for Elvis throughout the show, hanging the scarves around Elvis neck, and whatever else was needed. And when necessary, when Elvis wanted him to - holding the mike. He was also the object of many of the practical jokes Elvis would play on stage. Even at this point, when Elvis was within months of his death, Charlie made sure Elvis had what he needed to be able to give the fans the best show he was able to give. That having been said, thank you for a lovely review. I hope you will do more research on Elvis and continue to discover the greatness, the fun and the charm that is Elvis.
On the subject of his style of music, etc. People forget he grew up not only in the ghetto but he was raised in a black neighborhood of Tupelo, Mississippi. In past interviews, he gives credit to those who inspired him. It was his manager, Thomas Andrew Parker commonly known as "Colonel" did a lot shady shit, even behind Elvis's back. Another thing one has to keep in mind, Elvis was so medicated from pain pill during this time (he died a few weeks later), that he could barely remember the lyrics to his own songs. This song hits hard and you can hear in his voice.

When Elvis sings, his powerful voice and emotional delivery create a sense of intimacy that makes it feel like he is singing directly to you. His ability to connect with the listener on a personal level is a testament to his talent and the genuine passion he brought to his performances.
Elvis NEVER became a parody of himself. Elvis got ill. Those weren't gaudy outfits, they were custom works of ART, and each one had a special meaning. They represented HIS RESPECT for the DIVERSITY of his fans. Elvis spoke through his music and clothing attire. He was ALWAYS a trendsetter. Elvis suffered from inflammatory issues that were the cause of him appearing overweight. He really wasn't all that "fat". His enlarged colon and heart (colon was 3 times the normal size of a man his size) were just part of a condition that doctors were just learning to figure out about. It was a small number of THE PEOPLE, cruel people that MADE FUN OF HIM, ruthlessly, that was the parody. THEY were the joke. What Elvis needed was REHAB & REST. 6 months AWAY FROM THE BUSINESS, to lean himself out and see a NEW SET OF DOCTORS and most importantly TO FIRE "Tom Parker" and "Dr Nick". Parker was on the way out... But Dr Nick Elvis placed his trust in. Back then, we blindly trusted all our doctors. Elvis was first in many things. Unfortunately, Elvis TRUSTED his physician. He could never of fathomed that his OWN DOCTOR was feeding him lethal doses (many times over) of painkillers and other pharmaceuticals (instead of DOING THE ACTUAL WORK OF TREATING HIS CONDITIONS -- and recommending THAT ELVIS SEE SPECIALISTS for each ailment). Michael Jackson was killed by his physician in a VERY, VERY similar way. Elvis was repetitively blindsided by PARKER AND NICK, LITERALLY TO DEATH... and they cheated THE WORLD of one of its most BEAUTIFUL & GENEROUS & TALENTED HUMAN BEINGS.
Elvis had no medical condition. He had an ADDICTION. He had half the pharmacy in his stomach when he died, and his doctor was indicted of 14 counts of overprescribing to Elvis. He could have bypassed this "fat Elvis" phase, and had a long career....if he had just kicked the habit.
@@Skulllywag COMPLETELY INCORRECT. Elvis suffered INCREDIBLE pain throughout his body from a rare inflammatory disease. He also suffered from TBIs from some nasty head trauma. He suffered from glaucoma. He suffered from an enlarged heart and colon that was THREE TIMES THE SIZE of normal. He suffered from chronic constipation. Elvis needed to be off the road and he needed to be seen by specialists, instead of one corrupt doctor that broke doctor/patient ethics/trust. Doctor Nick. This was June 21, 1977. His last performance was June 26,1977. There is a video of his final performance of this song, which was June 25, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The night before the Indianapolis concert, which was his final concert. The June 25 version is also amazing!
The Absolute 💯 Best Audio Version By Elvis Was Recorded Live on April 24, 1977 In Ann Arbor Michigan Just Type Elvis Presley "UNCHAINED MELODY" OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO OR OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO (IT HAS BEEN REMASTERED TO IT'S BEST)
@@WoodsWoman822 i think the most beautiful version was on dec 31st 1976 in pittsburgh nothing touches that for me then he followed it with his only live performance of rags to riches while still at the piano it is also completely amazing:)
I love when he looks at the sweets like “I did it”this was also the first time Elvis played the piano during a performance and he was very nervous about it. Bring a tears to my eyes
@@Elvis-guy1973 just curious because I've researched this and I can't find any evidence of him performing piano live on stage. In a couple of books, I read that he wasn't even planning on playing unchained melody during this performance. And it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. He didn’t want to perform it at first because he’s never played piano before on stage. I think I also heard this story from Charlie Hodge during an interview. I could 100% be wrong tho because I can't believe everything in these Elvis books
@@Myboymyboy1212 If you know Elvis, you know he was very spontaneous on stage and even his band members didn't always know what he was going to do. He could decide to sit down with a guitar, which we know he's done, or he could very well have sat down multiple times at the piano and just played, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. He wasn't only a vocalist, he could play numerous instruments so logically, why wouldn't he have done just that. Anyway, here's what you were looking for, enjoy.👍ruclips.net/video/JNqoVj0_dUo/видео.html

Actually, if I may, Charlie Hodge, who was holding the microphone, was one of his backup-singers and not his guitarist, per se, although he did play acoustic guitar as well, he was primarily there as a singer. Lovely man he seemed too. All the best.
@rene7344 I thought he was one of his guitar players, also, in his early band and played with him and the other original band members in the round in the '68 Comeback Special. I think he was the only one of them who continued on with Elvis as a mostly backup singer.
@@wanderer0617 hello again. Hope your having a lovely day. Charlie was a professional singer before Elvis met him in the army, during their conscription. They became friends and Elvis asked him to work as his “Harmony” singer, as he had that beautiful high voice that complemented Elvis’-you can hear it often in Elvis’ music-and, as I mentioned, he also played acoustic guitar, but he was really there for the harmony vocals. Look, it’s no big deal either way, but just in case it was interesting. 😁 Enjoy your day!
@@renecents he was also the person that handed him his scarves and water, hooked his cape on and off. He also caught Elvis’s guitar when he threw it behind him. I don’t remember which song he did this in.
Thank you for your kind words. Racism and discrimination goes all ways, not always against people of color. @@WoodsWoman822 Oh now you have my attention and also now the opportunity to back up your claim that I am a troll. Tell me why it is okay for me to see the same names, you included Kim Domas, making comments on Elvis reactions, but I don't call you and the others a troll? Just in case you missed that, that is a question. Is it by you standards okay for people to make a comment about Elvis so long as it paints Elvis in a positive light? That is a question too. Now, tell me why I am not afforded the same opportunity as every one else on this forum to comment? That is a question too. Can you do that? That too is a question. Is it your plan to stamp out freedom of speech? Another question. Or, is it by your standards say what you want so long as it is agreement with what you believe? Too many questions? Oh that was another question in case you missed it. And finally, Kim Donas, is it okay now for me when I see your name on an Elvis reaction, is it okay for me to call you a troll? If not, why not? That is a question also. I now eagerly await your response.
I disagree he was a genius in which he sold it all the audience, the interpretation. The amount of genres he did with authenticity..I have never seen another artiste that could play their voice like a musical instrument! He is iconic there’s no getting away from it! His impact is felt after all these years! I have heard really good singers in my time, but they mostly stayed in their own lane and didn’t branch out! I don’t care what anyone says he had it in spades. All done without any professional training! There’s Elvis then there’s everyone else! He is in his own category! Longevity is the true key of an artiste!
Happy to see this reaction today even though 1977 is sad to watch because it’s just weeks before his untimely death. Just love his powerful voice and passionate delivery! Check out Bridge Over Troubled Water live from Las Vegas 1970. One of my favorites!
oh my god , in my opinion on this last performance ever , we can see the power of human passion, his voice is so powerfull!!!! AMAZING!!!!! gosebumps....
I grew up with both parents being Elvis fans, and there's a 25 years age difference between them. This video was made three weeks before Elvis died. To show how powerful his voice was. He had multiple ranges in his voice. He was honestly given a gift by God.
Elvis was very ill and should have been in a Hospital. This was his Last Filmed Preformance, it was on June 21, 1977, Elvis Passed Away on August 16, 1977. Another Beautiful Song Elvis did was: "Bridge Over Troubled Water" 1970 Live Las Vegas (New Mix, Great Sound)
What Elvis needed was REHAB & REST. 6 months AWAY FROM THE BUSINESS, to clean himself out and see a NEW SET OF DOCTORS and most importantly TO FIRE "Tom Parker" and "Dr Nick". I grew up in a family of Elvis fanatics. My family is from Memphis and some of my family members knew him personally. My uncle worked for him and they stayed friends. I knew he was talented but I didn't truly appreciate his talent until I saw this. This is unbelievable. I cry every single time I hear it. But I never really appreciated him because I felt like other people should have been successful, but he clearly deserved his fame.
When a person becomes so famous as Elvis (not many do) people full of ressentiment comes out from under their rocks to start rumors (always bad ones) to draw that person down so they dont fell so inferior. It just doesnt work , in time truth will prevail 😊
is it a rumour or a fact after one of the hay ride shows whilst plooking a girl the condom breaks and Elvis shts himself take the girl to the hospital leaves her there and drives off to get a douche?
This was his private life nothing to do with his talent as a singer! If we bring up this can of worms then we need to think about other artistes also i’m sure Elvis next to these would sound and look like a choir boy! It’s best not go there you don’t want someone to open an even bigger can now do you?
I watched this with my mom when I was 7. She said he looked unwell. A few weeks later he died. My mom just stood there watching the news in disbelief. RIP Elvis and Mom.
He’s struggling so much for breath. Please listen to a recording made several years earlier. This version is great but when he was in his prime, this song will bring tears to your eyes. ❤
So happy to see you doing another Elvis reaction. Anything from Ed Sullivan, 68 Special, or 70, 72 concerts is outstanding. Thanks for this one and for showing your appreciation to the best performer I ever saw with the best voice I ever heard.🔥❤️🔥❤️
So hard to watch this...😢. Its so beautiful & sad at the same time.....knowing this was his last performance. How sick he looked...it just breaks my heart seeing him like that. 😭. ❤
He was very sick here during this performance ( his heart was failing ) and yet he gave it all. ❤️ I was 17 years old when it was announced on the radio in 1977 that he had passed away, our entire family cried that day. I don’t think Elvis ever hurt anyone in his life. He was also a twin, his twin Jesse died after being born. Rest in Peace Elvis Presley.🙏✝️❤️
I was 15 when he died and that night on the news they showed him singing “Are You Lonesome Tonight” and we all cried. There will never be another Elvis!
I was 16, he was 42, the same age as my dad, but I had fallen in love with him from his songs and movies. I balled my eyes out, watching a tribute to him late that night, sitting on the floor in my grandmother's room, with the sound down low, while she slept. Sadly my dad died two years later at age 44.
Just imagine being on his death bed and still giving his al to his fans as he always did. Love was mutual between him and his fans. It's heartbreaking that he was so ill and yet gave this great performance and it happened to be his last
I absolutely believe Elvis was singing this song to his mother on that last tour. As far as Elvis and opera goes, Elvis loved all kinds of music, including opera. One of his favorite performers was the great tenor Mario Lanza.
You will find that we, his adoring fans, are very protective of this gift, this unmatched legend. Elvis did so much during his short life and was so sick here that it is hard to watch. But he still sang like an opera star, still moved every soul in that audience, still let us see his genius.
I remember watching this on TV. It was Elvis last performance,he died a few weeks later. My mother had all of Elvis records, and would play them all the time 😢
POLO, YOU REALLY NEED TO CHECK OUT ELVIS AND THE BLACK COMMUNITY, PARTS 1 AND 2....IT will SHOW YOU SO MANY THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT THE MAN, AND THE PERFORMER.......WHAT YOU ARE REACTING TO HERE WAS JUST 6 WEEKS BEFORE HIS DEATH, AND YET HE STILL GAVE EVERYTHING HE HAD FOR HIS FANS....AND YES, YOU HAVE HEARD THIS BEFORE, IT'S A COVER TO THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS SONG....
and there it is, the comment for a black reactor reacting to Elvis to watch Elvis and a few black people that met him. why don't you offer that up to a white reactor reacting to Elvis?
Please react to Elvis singing "Sweet Caroline" live in Las Vegas 1970. Man, he excelled at these shows. He outperformed and outsung Neil Diamond on his own song. Tks Polo.
People have forgotten what a humanitarian he was!! Great person that millions of people around the world loved then and still love ❤️ love him today! This was his last performance!!! Very sick and incredibly tired, he still had IT!! RIP ELVIS AND WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU ❤️ 😍 💖!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT COMMENTS! we need more positive feedback and less negative!!!
I must say, I too, regrettably didn't do the just thing and followed this great singer and natural talent until after his premature untimely death in 1977. And from that day I have learned one thing about Elvis. He was a godly spirit whose raw unbridled vocal gift was so powerful that it has left such an indelible mark in the music industry. More importantly, he was so humble and a kind artist unmatched by no one else. Sadly, he left this cruel world too soon. He is missed!
We all loved Elvis he was the love of our life. I miss him terribly. I want to say this was only a few weeks before he passed away. He was almost blind then. So heartbreaking we did love him

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about.

Even weeks before he died you could hear the power in his voice , he was and always will be the king
As I’ll as was he was he put everything into this song. God bless you Elvis!❤
He set the bar all other musicians are measured against. There is nobody above the king
This was June 21, 1977. His last performance was June 26,1977. There is a video of his final performance of this song, which was June 25, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The night before the Indianapolis concert, which was his final concert. The June 25 version is also amazing!

i think the most beautiful version was on dec 31st 1976 in pittsburgh
nothing touches that for me
then he followed it with his only live performance of rags to riches while still at the piano
it is also completely amazing:)

nah
dec 31st 1976 in pittsburgh is his most beautiful live performance of it :)
ElvisFanForever & Ever
I love when he looks at the sweets like “I did it”this was also the first time Elvis played the piano during a performance and he was very nervous about it. Bring a tears to my eyes
No, this wasn't the first time Elvis played piano on stage.
@@Elvis-guy1973 when was the other time(s)?
@@Elvis-guy1973 wow!!! Amazing! And I love that song! Thank you
I just found your channel a week or so ago. I'm turning 60 next month and man it is a blast to watch your reactions to music I grew up on and have loved all my life. Thanks for being you and thanks for some great videos!
No auto tune pure talent.....not his best performance but he had raw talent.....
Elvis was so sick at this point. He passed away a few weeks later, :(
He gave his all in this song. His longtime guitarist held the microphone.
@@tlo3571 Hi, and indeed, he did all those things, as well. A nice man he always seemed. Enjoy your day.
Thank you for your kind words. Racism and discrimination goes all ways, not always against people of color. EP was a humble and generous and funny person....he helped more people, regardless of race, than most of us can lay claim at any time.
RIP King......always forever!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
oh my god , in my opinion on this last performance ever , we can see the power of human passion, his voice is so powerfull!!!! AMAZING!!!!! gosebumps....
Greatest Voice Ever!!!!
I grew up with both parents being Elvis fans, and there's a 25 years age difference between them. This video was made three weeks before Elvis died. To show how powerful his voice was. He had multiple ranges in his voice. He was honestly given a gift by God.
The night Elvis became an opera singer !! It's amazing how much more powerful his voice became as he grew older !!
I never gave a shit about Elvis till I watched his performances. Dude plays his band and the audience like an instrument.
He was so amazing! His voice was beyond greatness! He is sooo missed by sooo many!!
There will never be anyone that comes close to Elvis!
Elvis was very ill and should have been in a Hospital.
This was his Last Filmed Preformance, it was on June 21, 1977, Elvis Passed Away on August 16, 1977.
Another Beautiful Song Elvis did was:
"Bridge Over Troubled Water"
1970 Live Las Vegas
(New Mix, Great Sound)
What Elvis needed was REHAB & REST. 6 months AWAY FROM THE BUSINESS, to clean himself out and see a NEW SET OF DOCTORS and most importantly TO FIRE "Tom Parker" and "Dr Nick".
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 🤦🏼
This was his private life nothing to do with his talent as a singer! If we bring up this can of worms then we need to think about other artistes also i’m sure Elvis next to these would sound and look like a choir boy! It’s best not go there you don’t want someone to open an even bigger can now do you?
I watched this with my mom when I was 7. She said he looked unwell. A few weeks later he died. My mom just stood there watching the news in disbelief. RIP Elvis and Mom.
Thank you for sharing The great king Elvis !!❤❤
He would die 6 weeks after this performance……..his voice never left him.
He’s struggling so much for breath. Please listen to a recording made several years earlier. This version is great but when he was in his prime, this song will bring tears to your eyes. ❤
Such a sad performance. He passed soon after this. Love this man! He’s the greatest ever!!
you weren't told the truth about Elvis....he was the real thing...a star for many reasons.
He was for sure raw talent and self taught. His older stuff before “big” Elvis was great too.
So hard to watch this...😢. Its so beautiful & sad at the same time.....knowing this was his last performance. How sick he looked...it just breaks my heart seeing him like that. 😭. ❤
Yes, I Agree Polo, Elvis has the greatest singing voice ever recorded
This song always makes me cry. Elvis more than anyone, but really any good singer can gets tears out of me
He was very sick here during this performance ( his heart was failing ) and yet he gave it all.
I love Elvis! I think my mom had every record of his.
Elvis' version of Unchained Melody is my favourite!
He was the BEST!,,
Just imagine being on his death bed and still giving his al to his fans as he always did.
Love was mutual between him and his fans. It's heartbreaking that he was so ill and yet gave this great performance and it happened to be his last
Elvis has such a wonderful voice. He was georgeous and a wonderful preformer. I'm hoping to see the movie Elvis. Great reaction
I absolutely believe Elvis was singing this song to his mother on that last tour.
As far as Elvis and opera goes, Elvis loved all kinds of music, including opera. One of his favorite performers was the great tenor Mario Lanza.
Elvis was effing fire
You will find that we, his adoring fans, are very protective of this gift, this unmatched legend. Elvis did so much during his short life and was so sick here that it is hard to watch. But he still sang like an opera star, still moved every soul in that audience, still let us see his genius.
My beautiful Elvis. Rest in peace
Absolutely Beautiful. I love how he sang that. Elvis was a Special Special person ❤
This kills me every time is see this he’s weeks from death at this point. Gods rest in peace my brother Elvis.
I remember watching this on TV. It was Elvis last performance,he died a few weeks later. My mother had all of Elvis records, and would play them all the time 😢
The last ever performance elvis did, before he died ❤️😭😥 he really gave it all here!
@@MariaMaria-yl9br correct, this was the last concert officially filmed, however not his last performance.
During his 3AM Vegas Show he praised and wish Chuck Berry a quick recovery (he had been hospitalized) and in honor of Chuck sang Promised Land.
Actually the Righteous Brothers Version was also a Cover, Roy Hamilton had a Hit with it In 1954-55 and his Version was also a Cover.

he was sooooooooooooooooooo fabulous!
I loved Elvis. Great performer.
This breaks my heart .He was so obviously ill and close to his end but wow he was spectacular, he gave his all . Magnificent .
He said "Farewell" to the world in a very powerful way.

There wasn't a stand for the mic because they didn't know Elvis was going to play piano while he sang.
