  • Austin Butler ('Elvis') on emotional 'Unchained Melody' audition dedicated to his mom: 'I let myself cry' and 'play the music.' He gets technical while describing how he studied "the architecture" of Elvis Presley's mouth and how it shaped the way sounds came out. Gold Derby editor Denton Davidson hosts this webchat.

Priscilla did not leave Elvis from Graceland with Elvis at the top of the stairs, sniveling and all drugged out. I could go on but I am not going to list the 20 or so places in the movie I found. Also, He and Priscilla did not sit in his car after they signed divorce papers and Lisa was not there with her Nanny. How do I know all this? By reading Priscilla’s book. That’s how. This gentlemen right there is what a real actor is. He's into the art for the sole purpose that it's his passion, his need to express. He's well grounded, very empathic to people, he's in touch with his most inner self and soul. To be able to get in touch with who Elvis as the person, not the exterior part of Elvis but Elvis's mind/heart/soul so that Austin could portray Elvis to best of his abilities. Austin dug deep into studying his Elvis's life and he used his own experiences he endured to try and understand Elvis's pain to be able to portray him, such example as the association of both losing their mothers at a young age. Austin is not in the business of acting with purpose for fame, he's only in it for the love of the art and how he contributes that to help others. Of course earning money is want and need, but that's not his only reasons. I hope he gets every award cause he sure deserves it. He put a lot of time, work and studying into capturing Elvis, he wanted to do the right way in honoring Elvis and to make Lisa and the Presley family happy. Sometimes when a actor does that, when the filming is a wrap it takes them awhile to integrate back to self, cause they deeply marinated and immersed themselves into that character. I wish Austin a success on his journey of acting.
In my humble opinion - A man like Austin would had been the perfect type for Lisa, it would of done her well. I'm not saying those two should of been a couple, of course not cause he's young enough to be her son, I'm just using his character, heart, depth, insight, gentleman ways, grounded, his depth, empathy etc...as an example of what kind of man would of have been good for her. She needed a man like that to understand her as what she dealt with being the child of Elvis, to understand her as a artist in her own right, to be her strong arm and protector, someone not after her cause Elvis was her dad. I honestly believe she was never happy in a marriage cause she compared the men to her father, which is very understanding considering she lost him at a very young age and that he was a excellent father to her, other reasons is those men weren't interested in her as the woman/person she truly was, they just wanted associated to her cause of her inherited wealth and Elvis. I don't know much about her ex husband Danny, but from what little I do know, is he seemed like a good guy and father to their children, but maybe they just didn't understand each other's world, Lisa trying to find her own identity in the shadows of her father, just a very complex situation for her, that caused her confusion, pressure, and turmoil. I truly believe had she met the right kind of man for her, the strong love she had for him he would of been able to be influential in a way to lead her life in the right direction. She was rebellious but with right man it would of altered that in her. May Lisa rest easy now. She'll always be greatly loved and missed.

Austin and Elvis were really so similar especially in the paths they both have traveled through life and I admire Austin for not only his honesty about the role but how he was able to connect to Elvis and really truly show how Elvis was human just like we are. Austin and the cast did an amazing job on this movie and I truly love it and continue to watch it often. He deserves the Oscar for this movie!

This was a great interview, he gave Austin room to speak, and not trying to trick him into saying something. I love the calm way Austin speaks, that's so nice to listen to in this fast world. Love Austin because he is so genuine and not trying to copy Elvis but tried to show the human being that Elvis was. Lisa Marie saw that. According to Riley Keough she saw her mother Lisa Marie smile for the first time in two years when she met Austin. I am so glad Austin brought a smile to Lisa Marie's face.

Understand perfectly when he talks about gospel singers' effect on he and Elvis. Some years ago I was at a very holy shrine in Ireland - a place called Knock Shrine. People used to walk and travel miles and miles for cures at this holy place. Well, somebody sang the song Lady of Knock and there was such a spiritual feeling in the air. (Beautiful song). Music is indeed the universal language. So beautiful that Lisa (R.I.P.) and her whole family got to witness Elvis being honored. Sad and beautiful at the same time. Blessings.
