The world needs Jethro Tull now more than ever. Last time we had a new Tull album there were no smart phones! Here's to great music and the artists that make it happen.
@@crusheverything4449 Many classic rock bands are down to one or two original members at this point. Tull's only original member was Ian Anderson as of 1972's Thick As A Brick, anyway. While Martin Barre is one of my favorite guitarists of all time, I'm fine calling this "Jethro Tull."
@@crusheverything4449 Who cares what title's slapped on the cover? It's brilliant. Few artists are producing vibrant, meaningful music like this, let alone any remaining from the 1960s. Perspective, mate. Perspective.
@@johnnyscarecrow71 - My problem is that it’s far from brilliant and therefore, should not be called Jethro Tull. Why do so many people think anything Ian farts out is genius? This stuff sucks compared to even the weak Too Old to Rock ‘n’ Roll or Rock Island albums. Where are the dynamics? There’s no balls whatsoever. Too old to rock ‘n’ roll has become autobiographical for Ian, at last. What a pity.
How great is this? Jethro Tull, the soundtrack of my youth. Still around, still alive. Still brilliant. Over 50 years no scandals, yust good music. ❤🔥❤
The mixing of _The Zealot Gene_ doesn't do the material or the performers any favors. It sounds boxy and cheap, as if done by someone who had just picked up Pro Tools a couple of weeks earlier and was told to keep Anderson's voice and flute up and the drums down, and above all, do it in a hurry. The instrumental performances? The band sounds like anonymous session musicians, trying to stay awake while playing material that is beneath them. No one will mistake Scott Hammond's playing for that of Barriemore Barlow or Mark Craney.
Ian Anderson is one of those very rare, class of their own artists whom originality & transcendence of musical genres comes naturally to. He's one of the few all time greatest of greats. Someone said the world needs Jethro Tull now more than ever. As one who's loved Tull since a kid, from the 70'd & onward, I"m here to tell those with ears to hear: we've been blessed with music by one of the most creative humans ever to grace this earth. The Zealot Gene is a timely release, among Ian's best creations. ROCK ON Jethro Tull!!
One thing I love about Ian is that he's able to reinvent himself while still remaining faithful to his roots. You can still hear the same guy who sang Aqualung in the 70's. Another great song from a great artist.
Having listened to Tull and Ian Anderson's creativity for fifty years now, there is one crucial necessity concerning every album: "Multiple Listenings". And for some albums this means reading and delving into the lyrics. This is specially true for the previous release, Homo Erraticus, which I consider to be quite a masterpiece level effort. Many times over the years I have been less than thrilled with a "first listening", but I always find that the ingenious subtleties take time to "appear". And with Ian Anderson, the incredible musical subtleties are always there, too easy to miss with just one listen.
....it is exactly the same and my thesis is confirmed again and again: what goes into the ear quickly flows out again quickly and is forgotten. That's right, "homo erraticus" is a masterpiece ... I've probably heard it 1000 times!
asabrick, I agree wholeheartedly about multiple listenings. Homo Erraticus is a great example and this is a masterpiece as you state. It is wonderfully explicit in its narratives about old war days etc., and the history lesson about Isambard! - all history lessons should include this song at schools😁
I've also been listening to Tull for 50 years, but mostly what they recorded in the early 70s. To me this band is just Ian's backup band. There's no Martin Barre or any other name I know. But I agree with your comment about multiple listenings. I don't think I liked Passion Play much the first time or two; now it's still one of my favorite pieces of music (I'm actually working on a new album called A Pastiche Play). My question for you is, if I was going to listen to one Tull/Anderson album since 1980 multiple times (I've listened to all of them up to 1980) which album do you recommend? Thanks in advance.
A voice of what many consider to be the past, bringing a message that has never been more relevant. Thanks Ian, for the music and the work you put into it.
The message that zealotry is bad, but also gentically inherited? That therefore because I encountered a black bigot im going to beware all bantu people?
Jethro has always had a message in his music, maybe not for everyone, but for those who listen they can learn. I'm an old hippie that has listened to his music from the beginning of his career. It never gets old.
Ian Anderson is now singing well within his reduced vocal range. His flute is potent as ever and JT is back to prog - folk hybrid music which fits it perfectly like old shoes . JT is innovating and presenting imaginative musical videos to promote its new album. JT is unsinkable
Yes it's great that Ian has lowered the key It still sounds a little weak But much better than past year's He has always suffered from a diabillitating vocal disease
How Mr.Anderson manages to continue to amaze with each of his efforts is beyond me. Homo Erraticus was a masterpiece. And this album is surprising and fresh once again!
I pre-ordered this album without a single listen, because it's JETHRO TULL. I was not disappointed. Watching this video makes me even happier as the visual is such a compliment to the masterful lyric content. An album worth the wait. Maybe this will trigger Ian and the guys to do a follow up sooner rather than later!
I bought it sight unseen or sound unheard rather - as a 50 year fan. So far, I don't like what I hear. I appreciate that squishy guitar in Shoshanna, that is interesting and clever, but the lyrics and the complexity is gone, and there are not really the trademark solos or flute parts any more. I don't think Ian can get the band to spend much time together since the treats them like contract employees. Don't count on any new albums. I think Ian is pretty well played out.
Damn! It's so great to hear that incredible, unmistakable voice & accompanying music doing new music! And that flute...nobody's ever come close to Ian's flute playing which inspired my daughter to play flute beautifully from age 8 through college. Hopefully she'll pick it up again someday- I've even promised to buy her a new flute.
Oh yes! Ian's seemingly endless, skills in song writing is remarkable. And this is a great song and Ian's 's beautiful flute playing is so memorable and brilliant for sure. cttcaegoaktd 😛😛😛😛😛😛😛
This is an amazing gift to 2022. I have a 14 year old flute and bass playing daughters whose favorite bands are The Moody Blues, Joni Mitchell and Jethro Tull. This is timely and brilliant.
Back in the early days of Jethro Tull I could not get enough of those early albums. Okay now having spent sometime listening to this song it grows on me more and more Very heavy very umble like but as always, Ian,s lyrics have not lost their spark. Sort of TAAB II how over the years Ian finds these lyrics amazes me. Funny enough I have no albums much past Too Old To Rockn Roll so I need to get me a into g and start filling in the gaps of the later stuff
Anything I could write about this masterpiece and its importance to the times we are living would be too little and would not do justice to one of the greatest genius of music along more than 50 years. We are lucky that we still have Ian to musically speak out what the world needs to listen to, and complemented by this wonderful - and even didactic - video. One thousand thanks, Ian, from someone who knew Jethro Tull in 1971 and has followed all his career !
I haven't enjoyed a Jethro Tull album so much like this one since WAR CHILD and SONGS FROM THE WOOD. My first concert was the Jethro Tull WAR CHILD Tour at Madison Square Garden in New York City when I was 13 years old. My late brother took me to the show. I will always remember that night. What a brilliant song and music video as well! I am very glad I have been a sturdy Jethro Tull fan for so long and even managed to see them perform live in Aalborg back in early 2018! Rock on, maestro Anderson, much health, and all the best! :)
What I love about Tull is they don't have to try to be another band, they just continue on as themselves and let everyone else try to catch up or fall away. Just great stuff!

I was sore as a dog who had encountered a porcupine for the first time when Martin Barre and Ian departed company. Tull were those two in my eyes...This is changing me to understand..Musically this is one very good and sound stuff ! yep ! good deal !! Even this old dog can learn ( me)
Martin's son had been playing after Mart retired. Young Mr. Barre is likely still the man.
Amazing. Can't wait for the album.
fantastic song Ian is back with his magic .we Tull fans are zealot Gene born to Jethro Tull Music.,

Wonderful song and video.
Absolutely, fabulous performance music Jethro Tull. It is a real revelation for a new (old) generation. Master Ian Anderson and his magic flute. I'm happy to be here for the audition .... Jethro Tull 2022.
This melody is a BRILLIANT return to origins!!! Congrats, and please... come from Brazil - São Paulo!!!!!!
Genius, so glad Ian keeps on rocking.
Great sound, great lyrics and a stonkingly good video to boot. I have not been as excited as this waiting for a new Jethro Tull album since 1973.🩰
Le retour de Jethro Tull, immense légende du rock anglais, avec un son plus Heavy, ça fait du bien, un super refrain et l'art de monsieur Anderson pour la musique et les arrangements.
Thanks Ian. Bringing me joy since 1972. Cautionary tale indeed with all the lovely Tull hooks. I find it interesting that Ian is wearing a parka. Then again he’s been saying since Stormwatch that the weather is on the change. Love it!
JT are always on the top. They are an evergreen.
Awesome song
Wow ! What a cool presentation . I was able to listen to the new album . Ian Anderson has a very special sound and style that is not for everyone . Prog -folk rock here in Ian Anderson's latest record as good as it gets . Myself and many others in the fan base goes back decades . Ian Anderson and the Jethro Tull brand is back and hope to have more from this unique talent .
Cheers 02/15/2022
My favourite band releasing new album, first in m lifetime wow!
Jethro Tull has a good new album
One of the most influential bands for me. If I can one day capture even a fraction of the talent that has been consistently shown from Tull then I'll be a happy musician.
