    I absolutely do not think the woman who stormed out was an asshole. I get it’s not about money but imagine the kids seeing their cousins open $200 and then they’re left with a $20 gift card, it’s like a fuck you to the kids. wouldn’t have made a scene but I would 100% leave because, personally, I couldn’t be civil after that and would probably be bitchy and afraid I’d ruin the night that way. I’d tell the husband to make up an excuse and stay with the kids while I left. I think it’s a good opportunity too for the mom to explain to the kids afterwards why the cousins got so much more and that doesn’t mean they’re loved any less BECAUSE it’s not about the money.

      That story really pissed me off as the second I heard the store I was instantly pissed off and insulted for her.
      Info about Smiggle - it is an Australian stationary store specifically focused on kids back to school supplies (pencil cases, lunchboxes, pencils, etc.). One $20 gift card would quickly amount to one pencil case especially nowadays for context about 7 yrs ago I had the same kind of gift card and even back then I could only get a small pencil case and a rubber for $20. God knows the pricing in that place now

    This episode was a tough one for me. Me and my mom would watch the sesh together every week. I’ve been taking care of her the last 2 years while she’s been battling stage 4 kidney cancer. We bonded over The Sesh and looked forward to it every week. I was waiting to watch it bc she went in the hospital Tuesday.
    Unfortunately, I lost my mom yesterday. You guys always brought a smile to her face even when she was having her worst days. Her favorite segment was “AITA”. So I just wanted to say thank you for making her bad days a little better. All 4 of your positive attitudes gave her a little light.
    Keep doing what you guys are doing. You make the difference. ❤️

    For the alcohol one I get it. Everyone is different, but from my experience whenever there is alcohol there are at least a couple people who drink too much and go overboard. A couple of people got too drunk at my engagement party recently and my fiancé had to talk to them individually because having that behaviour at my wedding (sloppy, insulting people, spilling alcohol/food) would stress me out. I’ve found the same at Christmas parties as well…maybe this person’s family likes to just have a couple of drinks and nothing gets out of hand but if there is a history of things getting sloppy it’s freaking Christmas. You can enjoy the holiday without a side kick for once. And not respecting someone’s wishes who is hosting something for everyone (which takes money, energy, thought, time, etc) and hosting a different party is honestly so petty and childish. If you want a different Christmas with alcohol, just host it on a different evening so that people still get to drink if they want. I have Mormon family members(who don’t drink) and they’ve had non-alcoholic Christmas parties/get togethers before and the thought of someone saying “there’s no alcohol, I’m going to plan Christmas at my house instead but WITH alcohol” is just so petty and disrespectful. It’s just alcohol.

  • @jessicapurdum5084

    I’ve been thinking about the alcoholic party for a while but I was surprised at your takes. I do think people who grew up around alcoholics can have controlling tendencies but at the same time I think it was really rude of the family to plan a separate party behind her back for the same date/time just so they could drink. OP may have already spent time and money starting to plan her party and no matter what it was her turn to host. I can’t believe people couldn’t go a few hours without drinking while being around their families. I feel like that says something in itself about the kind of people they are. I also feel that those who did grow up in alcoholic homes do appreciate sobriety and there’s nothing wrong with that. Also would you have felt differently if OP was in a religion that didn’t allow for drinking? Regardless I like what other people suggested; OP having her party or dinner and then SIL can throw a party later that night with drinking.

    I usually agree with you guys but not when it comes to the drinking story . Her husband may not have agreed with her but he should be supporting her. And not having booze for 3 or 4 hours for the night should be a sign of respect for the host. It shouldn't be an issue unless you have a drinking party . Have 2 parties. It's not the end of the world but it meant the world to her clearly and she got shunned. That's so tacky

  • @AlliyahPerry
    @AlliyahPerry 8 месяцев назад +116

    I am honesly so suprised you about all of your attitudes to the drinking story. 1) Its her house and if she had an alcoholic father (which is a trauma all on its own) that is WAY more than enough reason to ask people not to drink in your home PERIOD. She shouldnt have to justify why she wants no alcohol in her home. 2) The SIL is disgustingly in the wrong. Not only do you go behind someones back while they are planning christmas but all for some alcohol????? Just go to the bar or home after dinner and get a drink if its that big of a deal damn that you have to drink on christmas. Its disrespectful and rude and honestly contrary to the meaning and spirit of christmas. 3) To say shes just being controlling when she may just be setting healthy boundries for herself and her home is wild. It doesnt matter whether its gotten out of hand or not its her home. It kinda broke my heart that you made fun of this lady like that. Alcohol is the most harmful drug and it has killed more people than all of the other drugs combined. She needs no excuse in the world to say no to having that in her home.

      @AlliyahPerry 7 месяцев назад +11

      @@kellyhoyer8387 I dont think that people need to tiptoe around people with trauma (almost everyone has trauma). That wasnt implied nor what I meant by what I was saying. They tried bringing alcohol to her home she said no. Instead of doing the reasonable and respectful thing her SIL planned another party behind her back just so they could drink at that specific time instead of literally any other time and place that day. It was her year to host Christmas that comes with a lot of planning, purchasing, rescheduling and time and effort on the hosts part. Her SIL was in fact the asshole and our society really need to take a look at its relationship to a destructive drug like this if people really think that this is acceptable just for some alcohol.

    i see both sides to the alcohol situation, for a lot of people the holidays are a time to "let loose" a little and that may involve alcohol. • @KaitlynMayReads
    @KaitlynMayReads 8 месяцев назад +15

    Sorry but I disagree with the sober party one. I don't think she's an asshole. People who can't abstain from alcohol for ONE day need help. It's her house and if she doesn't want to be surrounded by drunk people, I don't see the issue. I think it was an asshole move to move the party to someone else's house just so they can drink.

    • @mother_mayhem
      @mother_mayhem 7 месяцев назад +1

      And see, I think it was a power move of hers to know they drink and still host knowing she doesnt wanting alcohol there. They have done it in the past and then doesn't tell anyone she doesn't want them to drink until someone mentioned it when already planning to bring something of the sort. Could've mentioned it well in advance and I'm sure the result would've been the same, they would've still had their separate party.

    • @KaitlynMayReads
      @KaitlynMayReads 7 месяцев назад

      @briannabotello3732 interesting take. I think that if the family needs to plan the party behind her back after finding out the host doesn't want alcohol in her house, says more about the family than the host. If you choose alcohol over a family member, you may have a problem. I've had my dad choose alcohol over me countless times and it sucks so I understand where this woman is coming from. Also, I understand now wanting people drinking in her home. It'd be completely different if she were going to other people's homes demanding they not drink in their own home. But I also understand that if the family NEEDS to drink that badly, then it is 100% their right to have a party with alcohol. But it's still shitty of them to do.

      I don’t understand why she would want to throw the event in the first place if their behaviour is uncomfortable. Its her house yes but people can choose not to go. She sounded like she likes to have control of things(which make sense when having rough childhood) but she needs to grow up and realise you can’t control other’s choices. Maybe people in the family do have a problem but you guys must not understand addiction if you think just cutting it off for a day will do anything besides make people want to be sneaky. Idk it sounded like she was enjoying the control she had until they went behind her back and took it away from her. I don’t drink at family events but most my family does and if it helps them for the day, so be it. I have to admit I was super disappointed by their response to this story. The family not being willing to go ONE day without alcohol says so much about how little they respect and care for her. It was clear that they cared more about having alcohol & doing things their way than having an event where she felt welcomed. And HER HUSBAND not backing her up is BIG red flag. If they really wanted to have holiday drinks together, they could’ve compromised. They could’ve gone to her house in the morning for breakfast and gifts and went to the sister’s house for drinks later on that night. The family’s response to her choice to host an alcohol-free event was immature and incredibly disrespectful.

I hope you listen back to this and change your minds a bit. Or at least have a bit more compassion for people who prefer to have their families in their right minds in THEIR house. It was incredibly rude for her family to plan an entire alternate event, especially when hosting events can be seen as a right of passage in some families. Rude. I watched the documentary yesterday when it went live❤. I was running errands at the time, but I wanted to support the premiere. I started rewatching it today to catch what I missed. I thought it was beautifully done, I didn't have any trouble following along, and I didn't have any trouble with audio. I was so aggravated that people were actually complaining in the comments. Not only did I think the complaints were illegitimate, but I also felt like people had their priorities way out of whack if that was their focus! I thought it was a very up close and personal look into the gut-wrenching tragedy her family has endured. I cried along with her sister while she was trying to tell Jessica's story. It was such a raw moment that I felt such a connection to her. I felt her anger and frustration and despair. I am furious with the New Orleans Police Department, I just want to gather all of Kendall's followers and organize a big protest or something. It's infuriating that they won't even give the family the time of day, much less solve the crime. I hope and pray that this helps bring Justice for Jessica❤❤

My sister had to have a dry wedding because of our alcoholic father, she isn't an "asshole" at all, she (and all of us) just didn't want her day ruined by him having an alcohol-fueled meltdown (like most Christmasses). If their gatherings were always a case of fun, happy drinking where no one got beligerant and nasty, she wouldn't have wanted to ban it. The family could have talked to her, she was hosting and they bullied her by creating their own party, that is unacceptable and childish. They also could have had an alcohol-free dinner and then cocktails after. There were so many options for compromises.
    If alcohol is more important than family there clearly is a drinking issue in the family and her antennae are just more sensitive than those of others. Why can't they just accept it for one time? There are more than enough holidays to drink, NYE is coming soon anyway.

Siding against your wife for alcohol, despite the fact that she has trauma surrounding it, is abandonment of your wife. Pathetic on the part of the husband. In fact doing something like this actually should push this woman to reconsider her entire marriage to this man. He clearly does not value her as his wife.

    Youre movie was great. It was suspenseful and emotional. I couldn't believe it was over as it was wrapping up. Well done.

    The alcohol one is a very mild AH at most. She’s right, it’s one single day. The family is huge AH’s for planning an event the same day/time. If they wanted to do something with alcohol they’d be free to do so another time, but not in lieu of her event. I’m sure this is a few hours. I’m all for drinking at the holidays, it’s super fun. But she isn’t controlling anyone, she’s just asking them not to bring something she isn’t comfortable with into her home. I could be wrong and maybe she’s unreasonable but I’m thinking if she has such an issue with it, it’s because the adults get way too drunk and can’t act right. It’d be different if it was hosted by someone else and she was making the sober request, then I’d think she was the AH.

    I think you can use the song as an outro and do a cool retro Hollywood rolling cast/production credits etc. and Kendall I loved your presentation even though I knew you was off , just enjoyed you being yourself and doing that with us lol.

    Happy holidays sesh ladies! 🎄✨
    I wanted to thank you for all the work you guys put into all the podcasts this year. I always listen while working & playing the sims, lol. I’ve been having a hard time lately as I recently lost my dog of 13yrs 3 weeks ago. So I’m especially grateful for this episode. It helped me feel more in the holiday spirit & took some of that weight off my shoulders. The content you guys produce make me laugh & feel comforted. We appreciate you! 🎁💓

    I feel like if you are grown you should be able to make your own decisions about Holidays. I'm grown 42 and i choose not to go to Holiday events with family. They are always a shit show and I want to spend my time with my husband and child in peace. People always have a problem with it. But do I care? haha. I choose to do Christmas and Thanksgiving with Mom and Dad on a more personal level (before or after). I also work on Thanksgiving and when I did show up after working 12 hours. There was no food and people there that were like who are you at my own parents home. Sorry for the long rant... but it's my time also and I deserve to have peace on the Holidays as well.

    I loved your sister wives segment! I think it’s funny to talk about even if you’re not an expert on the show. Bc tbh I don’t watch a lot of reality shows but I love listening to drama 😂 that will be fun to do in the future

    Thats rude that the sister in law is having an alternate party and I was with an alcoholic for years it was awful every holiday. I would tell the husband to go but not go myself.

    I had to take a break from the podcasts a few months ago because you guys drink or talk about drinking a lot 😅 I still watch occasionally but damn the banning alcohol story take was not it 😭 I still will continue watching Mile Higher though🫶🏻

    As someone who struggles drinking, I don’t think she’s the asshole for banning alcohol. If you can’t have fun without drinking, it doesn’t mean you’re addicted to alcohol but you’re definitely dependent on it! 🤷🏻‍♀️
