Thanks man! I'm using field hihats currently. I don't see a membrane switch, I think it's using the contact between the cymbal and a piece of metal to complete the circuit (I could be wrong). The controller is a piston type controller, similar to goedrum or vh11, but small enough to fit inside. That said, I'm in the process of building my own 2 piece hihat, just waiting on some materials. Assuming it works out, I plan on documenting that process as well.
