Quick video showing how I fixed the bow zone. If you followed my other tutorials, you'll know that previously we sacrificed the bow sound in lieu of the crash sound and only using the edge switch as a choke. This was due to the edge trigger not responding well because the cymbal is too thick - you'd have to hit it really hard to get it to trigger, or mount the switch to the top (not ideal). Thi...

DIY Metal Electronic Cymbals A2E Conversion
These sound awesome! Can the drums be routed individually for mixing? Or is mixing meant to be done in-plugin?
@@SoundFontGuy thanks so much! Yep they can be routed out to 16 stereo tracks for better mixing. There are some controls (pan, gain, attack, decay, sustain, pitch tuning, global reverb) if you just want to stay in the plugin.
Sounds great mate - particularly the Roto toms!
@@Acoustic2Electronic thanks so much dude! 🤘
Hey! I live in China, and you can buy EVERYTHING here, but not this type of contact pedal triggers. Thanks a lot for your video! I've ordered materials to make it myself.
@@mariegone7402 glad you found it helpful, good luck with the build! 🙂
@@ArgonautDrums Hey, i did it, it works way too good, it should be illegal! I've posted couple of videos in instagram, and seems like so many people surprised that it's actually possible with cheap acousic contact mics. I got the biggest amount of views ever in my life for this haha, thanks a lot to you!
@@mariegone7402 hell yeah! Glad it's working out for you 🤘
What the hell is this? Real cymbals being triggered?
@@King-Gilamashur2758 that is in fact, what the hell it is 😎
So good, now I have to make this for myself.
@@stormcastv dirt cheap and gets the job done 🤘
Did the program sounded like that right of the batt or you did some adjustments?
@@ivansantillan4571 no adjustments, just whatever was default for each preset
I got this pack but for some reason the toms sound so bad on my setup. Any idea why? Please help Im using reaper with Alesis Dm10MKII pro
@@ivansantillan4571 what's up? Tough to say without knowing what you're hearing. Is it distorted?
Hard to describe how they sound but they dont sound like yours at all. Mine sound like with so much reverb and lots of echo room. I messed with mixer settings but doesn't seem to make it better. It's frustrating tho because right after watching your video it made me want to buy that pack immediately so I did ! But it was just instant disappointment.... snare , cymbals , crashes ,kick sound great just the freaking toms for reason sound terrible 😭
@@ivansantillan4571 very strange; are you running it in a DAW, are there FX assigned to your virtual instrument track? Maybe turn off/down all FX and room mics in GGD and then slowly bring them back up until it sounds the way you like. Worst case, maybe uninstall and reinstall just in case something got corrupted during download.
@ArgonautDrums yes I'm running it in a DAW im using Reaper. That's a good tip ! I'm definitely going to mess with thise settings, it didn't crossed my mind. I truly hope it works because trust me you motivated me to get that pack after watching you play and hearing that killer sound
I honestly have no idea if the fx are assigned to the virtual instrument or not , can you please tell me where to look for that? And also where are the room mics in ggd?
The foam is called “Backer Rod” used in construction to fill voids below caulking
@@wadeltopp3270 good to know, thanks!
Awesome! I was hoping the edge could be usable without having to put the membrane on the top of the cymbal. You, sir, are a legend. Thanks!
Curious how your cymbals are holding up after a couple of years. Have the membranes had any issues? And it seems you don’t specifically need GoEdrum trigger boxes for this to work. They’re quite expensive, and seems making my own wouldn’t be too difficult. Thanks again for the great videos.
@@romanmeisenberg1224 hey what's up dude! Still holding up and play on them at least once a day. BUT! I found with my non air-conditioned room and the summer heat, the adhesive for the dampening can come loose - typically I can just press it back on, but new tape could be needed. Check out my hihat video, I didn't use a goedrum membrane switch or piezo trigger for that build. For the switch you just need something that completes the circuit when you hit it, then releases immediately.
The only reason (for me) to convert to metal cymbals is for looks because the digital pads work very well and I HATE how dead metal electronic cymbals feel. I have played many brands of metal electronic cymbals and they all feel very bad when compared to the rubber cymbals. My Current kit which I plan to "upgrade" by using my acoustic drums again only for looks: ruclips.net/video/8aaWg0iHOwM/видео.html
@@ArturoVillanueva-g5v aesthetics (looks good on camera 😉 ) and feel are what drove me to it. Some companies use two metal layers with dampening sandwiched in between, and Im with you, too dead and waaaay to heavy. I think I found a decent middle ground.
what have you done for your hi hat? same thing but double zone, and then LV cymbal with rubber trim for bottom hat? also what HH controller is that?
@@hvruk4541 I did a video on my hihat too, but you pretty much called it. I'm using a goedrum controller (vh11 clone)
@@ArgonautDrums oh shit, i totally missed the hi hat video, i'll check it out. for the hi hat controller, looked like you had something different (grey with a red switch?) in your rooms of hansa video. i have the goedrum controller myself, haven't been thrilled with it, you seemed to be getting pretty good results so wondered if you were using something different cause i thought it looked like it =
@@hvruk4541 ah ok, in that video I was using Field Electronic hats. I wasn't nuts about them (especially for the price), so I went back to the drawing board and made my own.
wow that double bass just comes in at 100 right from the rip eh?

This was a fantastic video. I've always known how to create single zones, but this vid made everything else so much more clear to understand.!
Glad it could help you out! 🤘
Sic bruh
I just downloaded the free version. The interface doesn't fit on my screen.
Hi there! It should max out a 16:9 monitor when it's undocked from the FX window, but your screen resolution also plays a part. I'll look into moving stuff around to see if I can shrink the real estate. Thanks for the feedback!
Looks Awesome!!
Thanks dude!
It would be amazing if sheet music would triggered the drums for study purpose. And you could lower de Bpm.
You can! In Reaper you can open any midi file in the piano roll editor and switch it to notation view (I think that's what it's called, search RUclips for 'reaper midi to sheet music'). And you can also adjust the tempo in reaper too slow it down or speed it up, or program a tempo change.
@@ArgonautDrums oh my God. Its true. Thank you so much 🤩🙏🏻
Попробую FREE версию, звук отличный на видео!
Спасибо!
Nice kick man, love the performance...great stuff
All I did was drag and drop some midi I found lol, but thanks man!
@@ArgonautDrums oh yeah i know, the sound of the track I thought was nice...love the kick. lol i guess "performance" wasnt right word there. didnt it say you used a wav to MIDI thing? did you use SD3 or trigger or? (to convert audio to midi)...unless you found a MIDI drum part already made?
@@eDrumsandVSTs lol thanks dude. And nope, found it on the interwebs, tons of free files out there, I think I pulled this one from Reddit. Just had to remap a couple instruments. But yes you can do sample replacement with Trigger 2, or audio to midi with sd3 using the Tracker tool. It works best if you have a clean audio track to work with.
BANGIN!!!!!
Thanks bro!
Does it works with those piezoelectric microphones for acoustic guitars?
Like an acoustic guitar pickup piezo thing? I've never tried it with one, but itl probably work.
I'll do it and i'll tell you if It works 👍
@@usuario-nk6hq looking forward to the results!
Yo, It actually works pretty well but I still can't find how to put them below the pedals
Ive played this, and its an excellent low-cost drum plugin for raw drum sounds plus a bunch of mic and configuration options. Great stuff!
Thanks so much! It means a lot coming from my favorite edrum VST channel 🤘
@@ArgonautDrums well thank YOU for that!
This looks very interesting...
Nice conversion. I did something similar with low volume cymbals. I can imagine doing this with an old cracked cymbal, or some crappy beginner bronze - but why ruin a perfectly decent $250 Zildjian A?
Aesthetics. These were used. They're not rare cymbals. And It's not permanent; Ive de-converted a few since making this video.
Well, they do look snazzy! Good on ya, mate!
@@thedustyhaze thanks man; trust that no harm has been done to them 😉
Throwing all the things to the floor one by one was so annoying to watch.
It's really not a big deal, hope you find happiness 🤘
Hi, Thanks that´s good tuto. I try with the test version and that let me import a kick drum and a snare and they works very good. But I have a couple of questions. When you buy the licence that includes a reaper liscence? because it seems to be necesary to export the instruments, I want to buy this, but the reaper licence are other 60 dollar more. Thansk for your help my friend!!
Hello! It doesn't include a Reaper license, but SDSE works with the evaluation version of Reaper.
can you use this program with mixwave drum vst
According to their site, they support gojira, Luke Holland, Thomas Pridgen, and Tony Royster packs. You can email the developer if there's something not on the list.
Very nice work!
Thanks so much! Big fan of your content 🙂
@@ArgonautDrums Thanks man!
Ah, some glorious SD3 sounds on a mimic! Sounds great. I used to use Lustark's app to put sounds on my old 2box Drumit5...until I realized the drumit5 has a bad built-in audio issue with most samples. Now it's a trigger/midi converter.
Oh wow, it does? I remember when I had a drumit3 I would get some noticeable latency if I used too many samples in an instrument. Similar will happen on the mimic if you set it to too many round robins where you'll get some distortion on the audio (noticeable if you play real fast)
@@ArgonautDrums The mimic seems like a VERY nice module. Yeah the Drumit3 is, oddly enough, the NEWER version of the drumit5. I learned that the hard way. The 5 has a weird audio problem with samples that werent pre-processed from 2box. The 3, I heard, doesnt have that particular problem.
@@eDrumsandVSTs dang, that's a heck of an oversight on their part. Have you seen the new DDrum5 module? Looks like a rebranded/updated drumit5. 65drums did a video on the prototype.
@@ArgonautDrums I have -- I watched the first minute or so of 65drums's video on it, but I got distracted or something and left. Is it worth any attention or is it just a rebranded drumit5mk2?
@@eDrumsandVSTs seems mostly rebranded with some new sounds. Same inputs and outputs. Buttons moved around. He did say they are going up update the screen, but I bet it's still gonna be a monochrome LCD.
I already have your snares and kits, this is a must-buy
Thanks so much! I appreciate the support 🤘
This does not provide proof of the actual recorded samples, it's just you playing your cymbals over a mic., which is ridiculous.
No, all sounds are coming from the Mimic. My cymbals are triggered, you can see the trigger box underneath. I have a few videos showing how I made them if you're interested.
my bad !@@ArgonautDrums
You are a legend!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing!!
I think the short you were experiencing and likely to experience again are from the inside of the clutch hole shorting between both cymbals. You could drill the lower of the top hats out and install a rubber grommet there to prevent this. This would explain why it worked fine with the clutch taken off. Cool video though. Hope to try and make a set of a2e cymbals soon myself.
Nothing ruins a nice new Zildjian better than double sided tape!
It's fine. I've deconverted 2 of them.
Plug it into an edrumin and turn in bell sense uou get a turee zone
That's an option too. I use a piezo under the bell and the p/p/s trigger type on the pearl mimic for my ride.
You might have been shorting through the clutch. I’m thinking a plastic sleeve over the clutch might help.
Good call out, or maybe a rubber grommet 🤔
@@ArgonautDrums not a bad idea either.
Thank you for this video! Saved! Will try my best to replicate it!
Good luck with your build!
