Carmilla Carmine was the one who sold Striker all his angelic weapons in Helluva Boss. A detail i find cool.
I love the hidden details like that! I hope they do at least a tiny bit of obvious crossover with at least one character! That would be awesome!
@@malkariss Look at the background posters and statues! They’re sadly not allowed to crossover characters….yet
(Edit:) some VAs are here tho like Zestial having the same VA as Asmodeus
@@juvon102Why are they not allowed aren’t they in the same universe
@@Dragon-pc8rx Same universe, but rights to the characters are owned by different companies, I think.
Kinda like how, for the longest time, Spiderman couldn't be in the MCU because Sony owned the rights to film depictions of his character.
Alastor took down a number of powerful overlords right after he arrived in Hell. So it's more a case of 'Beware an old man in a vocation where men die young'. Alastor and Zestiel aren't powerful because they're old, they got to be old because they're powerful.
That's a really good point. Touche'!
Fun fact all of the cast are singers and Broadway musical performers.
That explains why they are all so good at singing :D
I just wanted to highlight that, even though sinners can't escape the Pride ring, the Pride ring itself is divided into 9 circles. The entire pentagram you see in Hazbin Hotel is just one of the circles, so we only see 1/9 of the Pride ring on that one shot where the cities goes into blackout after Vox has a meltdown. This gives Alastor far more places to hide for 7 years. This is also why Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss don't have direct crossover, because while they are both set in the Pride ring, they take place in different circles.
I didn't know about the circles! This is great info! Did I just miss that at some point?
@@malkariss It's one of those things that fans picked up from cues between the two shows and was later confirmed by the creators of the show. We aren't sure if the other rings also have 9 circles each, but at the very least Pride has 9 circles in it.
Nearly every theorist can be summed up with the "I've connected the two points" "You haven't connected anything." "I've connected them." reaction image.
I like the theory that Niffty's love of punishing "bad boys" is the reason she hangs around Alastor. She's planning to kill or harm or punish him in some terrible way eventually, and he just absolutely loves that about her. It's a fun game to him to constantly be on the lookout for the moment she sees an opening and decides to attack
Hahahaha I'm not sure I believe this is the case, but the idea certainly seems to fit both characters for sure! :D
"We can't act without more intelligence" personally, carries the entire song
9:08 alastor is from the 1920s. viv confirmed that he died in 1932. Zestial, however, is likely from victorian england
Dang, I wasn't to far off at least. I hope we get more Zestial!
Given the way he speaks, he's probably from around Shakespeare's time or a little after. His speech isn't as antiquated as Shakespeare's writing, but it's far too old to be Victorian.
Zestial is more likely from the 1500s or thereabouts. Sir Pentious died in the Victorian era, specifically 1888.
@@lilacpen8678 the era of william shakespeare i meant
@@lilacpen8678 It would have to be a little after Shakespeare due to his pronunciation of vowels.
26:59 about the song and pairing, it makes alot of sence when you just listen to the lirics. Both Carmila and Veggi are scared to fail their loved ones and in reliving of that emotion make promises to themselves to do "whatever it takes" to keep them safe and help fullfil their dreams. There are thousands of unfamiliar people in real world who have similar worries and can relate to each other without having any other conection so that makes great pairing for the song, not to say musical storytelling traditions.
So for future don't try to overlook what hidden lorewise connections characters might have, sometimes it's just simple and straight, which doesn't make it bad.
Not everything in life has hidden plot twist or was made by someone else's design. I like that this show leaves moments like this, somehow makes a cartoon feel more real.
It's an interesting theory. Personally, I don't think age causes power though. I think that it's more likely that age and power are correlated because it takes someone with great power to survive for so long. Not the other way around.
But that's just my thought process.
Very good argument. I almost wonder if both could be true, but that makes sense for sure.
as interesting as the growing more powerful with age theory was, I believe that's not the case. I think the demons of the Hazbin Hotel universe grow more powerful by making deals, dealing in souls - that sort of thing. Alastor apparently arrived in Hell with enough power to topple many Overlords soon after he showed up and no one knows why. yet he developed a fondness for making deals which would only further enhance his power further. and as for your question about what makes a sinner an Overlord. what makes someone an Overlord is their power and influence, one way or another since those don't necessarily solely require the ability to kill a lot of people, and reign over their own territories. they're also usually related to something like how Velvet is to social media, Alastor to radio, etc.
This makes a ton of sense!
Some comments:
- they paired Vaggie (pronounced as VAH-gi) and Carmilla Carmine to show two types of love- Carmilla's love for her daughters (familial/maternal) and Vaggie's love for Charlie (romantic) and that these are two people who would do whatever it takes to protect the people they love and care for. Vaggie and Carmilla aren't related just cause they're both Latinas and have white hair. (Ngl, that kind of comment is almost kinda racist, to be completely honest.)
- Zestial is the most powerful Overlord, even more powerful than Alastor. There was a split second before Alastor turned to the eggs where he sorta flinched when Zestial said, "Hark, Alastor." Zestial is still weaker than the Sins (e.g. Lucifer, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Mammon, Belphegor, Leviathan, and Satan) though.
💯
Is zestial being stronger confirmed, or are you inferring based on what's been shown?
@@loremipsum2237 i say stronger because even Alastor is terrified of him so yes based on what is shown not on whether viv has declared that as fact offscreen or not
husk fled in a background while vaggie was dropping angel
also carmilla doesn't have horns its her hair
Haha I missed that, thanks!
If i am not mistaken, Overlords get their power from owning souls like how Alastor owns Husk and they are ranked above regular sinners and hellborns but lower than Stolas and the Ars Goeta, the 7 deadly sins and the Lucifer family and also the Vees are overlords
"How many people are in hell?" If the culling kills 16% every year (And we know 16% is a very abnormally high number), and half of humans end up in hell, that would mean that the population would stabilise around 3 years worth of human deaths which is around 260 million people right now but will increase of course.
But while earlier exterminations were less brutal, a bigger factor that should more than compensate for that is that the human population also has been quickly increasing (so it decreases drastically if you go back in the past) so it's probably more around 100/150 million souls.
edit: Nevermind, I was wrong, turns out the culling's percentage is much more important than expected. I did a quick excel file to calculate this dynamically from 1800 to 2020 (assuming the population in hell before that was negligible which it would be if it's culled by any non infinitesimal percentage each year and is kind of shown by the fact that in the show, souls older than a hundred years are extremely rare), using each year's population size and average lifespan and assuming an average extermination of 10% of hell's population per year (it wouldn't be very useful to reduce hell's population f it was much less than that but we know this year's 16% is unusually high so I had to find a balanced number) with half of humanity going to hell and half going to heaven.
The final number ends up at around 460 million souls in hell in 2020 with it being pretty stable around 490 millions for the last couple of year but falling to 460 millions because of the abnormally high 16% culling this year. Of course for a lot of that period, the average lifespan is skewed because of lots of babies dying and babies are probably going to heaven automatically, but turns out that since earlier times had less population, multiplying the starting average lifespan by 1.5 or more to account for babies dying in droves barely change the numbers at all so you can ignore that factor.
If most people go to heaven, the numbers could look drastically different. If 10% go to hell, then it's around 92 million population. (with hell almost reaching 100 millions but they had a huge culling this year). Honestly the numbers while not perfectly linear are very linear-looking for that metric so you can basically say hell's population in 2020 is around 920 millions multiplied by the odds of an individual going to hell.
Funnily enough, even beyond a fun exercise, those numbers are pretty consistent with the fact that 6 powerful overlords own millions of souls on their own (and that was before Velvette arrived so it didn't count the Vees'), that there are tons of smaller overlords and of course that most sinners would try hard *not* to sell their own soul as it's not in their best interest.
I really love the theory that Carmilla carmine is actually Eve. How else would she get connection to so much angelic weaponry?
She scavenges it from angels who left behind weapons from previous exterminations.
The Age theory doesn't work, as interesting as it is.
Alastor is has only been in hell about 90 years(Died in 1932) and killed a bunch of Overlords fairly early on in his career, but then he also canonically lost to Vox, who's even newer than him and had only been in hell for bout 60 years at the time, closer to 70 now(died in the 1950s)
Pretty sure the opposite is true?... Valentino said alastor almost beat him that one time which isnt something you say to someone who managed to win... way I see it vox must have almost b3en killed by allastor
So to answer your question about Overlords getting stronger with time... Uh... If they do it right?
Being an Overlord and ranking in general in this series isn't about power, though power is a part of it.
Being an Overlord is a socioeconomic title. It's based on how much money you have and how many souls you own.
So, theoretically, a sinner who's been in hell for longer has had more time to accumulate wealth and souls.
Alastor is probably the newest of the Overlords and he's been there for the shortest amount of time.
Love these reactions, I’m gonna check out your helluva reaction series after this, just wanted to say in case no one mentioned: Zestial’s VA is the same as Asmodeus from helluva 😊
Thank you so much! That man is so incredibly talented!! Wow!
@@malkariss I was drawing a blank yesterday, the VA is "James Monroe Iglehart", he does Asmodeus & Vortex (helluva) and Zestial (hazbin), agreed he is very talented!!
I'm still wondering about a connection between Carmilla and Vaggie! They have 2 songs together and both speak Spanish! That's just a few too many coincidences.
2:05 she will
Hahaha I just got to that part actually, and I haven't laughed that hard in a while :D
I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO ... UHH..... FIND THINGS OUT!!!!! haha!!
My mind is blown lol
9:51 Zestial should be dead in 1500 and he is the most powerful overlord. And yes, Adam is stronger than Alastor, and probably Lilith and Eve too
Dont throw your headcanon/fan fiction in there with a few facts...cause yes adam is more powerful than allastor but their is no evidence that even suggests zestial is the strongest overlord
@@dustinleask4252 If I'm not wrong, it was comfirmed by the author that he should be at least on the same level of Alastor (in the version constricted by his deal)
@@fabriziobiancucci7702 I mean of course he is on the same level as alastor, I would argue any of the overlords at the meeting would be on that level (or at least close). All I'm saying is that it's way to soon to be saying zestial is the most powerful overlord like it's a fact.
@@dustinleask4252 The overlords at the meeting aren't all on the same level, Rosie for example should be quite weak. They were at the meeting just because they had an interest in it
@@fabriziobiancucci7702 was Rosie at the meeting? I more meant Camila, zestial, alastor, the V's (as a trifecta) and the overlord that reminded me of mammon and was all green and fury but I don't think was given a name yet.
Alastor got weaker
