I think Alastor is fully aware that Lucifer could annihilate him with a thought, but he also could tell immediately how insecure he is about his relationship with Charlie, and I think he was banking pretty hard on the fact that he could antagonize Lucifer without retribution because Lucifer wouldn't want to risk upsetting Charlie by hurting her "friend." Probably also the reason he played up his "attachment" to her in the song, to keep Charlie on his side and to remind Lucifer that he's basically untouchable because Charlie cares about him.
I also think Alastor hates not being in control or not being the most powerful man in attendance. Lucifer is a threat to Alastor's project with Charlie, so he pushes back.
In more than anything, Alastor seems pleased by Charlie and Lucifer coming together again. Like he pushed them apart to pull them together kinda thing?
@@Banananananananananananaaanna I like that idea because helping fix her relationship with Lucifer while also staying close to Charlie means he has a way to manipulate Lucifer himself
@@soivebeenthinking2625 he definitely acted silly around others (but we havent really seen him with charlie completely off set. Just off screen, other than the one bedroom scene this episode)
Lucifer is the sin of pride. Him flexing his power is actually par for the course while not wasting his time deleting someone lesser, yet still ready to go back and forth talking smack. The fact that he was designed short makes it all the greater.
14:28 Charlie is actually older than Alastor. Alastor died in the 1930s which means he hasn't even been in Hell a full century whereas Charlie is somewhere in the ballpark of 200 years old. So Alastor implying a father-daughter relationship with Charlie when he's about half her age is just hilarious to me. Also Alastor telling Lucifer "Fuck you" is a rare Alastor L because he couldn't think of a clever comeback.
My read of Lucifer is that he was the seraphim of joy and happiness before Emily, which is why he's always shown like... making toys, shooting off fireworks, running a theme park, etc and why he looks like a circus ringmaster. And he still wants to be that person, wants to find that passion again, but he can't because of the big sad Also, for Alastor, I suspect the truth is... He has realized before anyone else that while the rest of hell underestimates Charlie, one day she is going to be incredibly powerful. Maybe even more than Lucifer or Lilith. And he wants to he her trusted right hand. Her Jafar. So that he can take advantage of that power at just the right moment for some selfish goal of his own And this episode included two threats to those plans: Mimzy, who doesn't care about Charlie and would easily let something bad happen to her and the hotel. And Lucifer, who cares too much about Charlie and might make her no longer need Alastor around if he got too involved
This makes so much sense, and explains why Emily seems so young. If she was created to be his replacement, she wouldn't be that old, compared to the rest of the Heaven-born Angels.
Adding onto this a little bit, Lucifer also kind of looks like he’s wearing clown makeup because of the pale face and red cheeks, and of course, clowns are entertainers and meant to bring joy
Yes, but he's also on a leash. Considering he vanished 7 years ago, and Lilith also vanished 7 years ago, I suspect its Lilith that has his soul. And she probably ordered him to watch over Charlie and the hotel and protect her.
Lucifer does love his daughter. Its the depression. It convinces him to stay away from his loved ones, believing he's just a burden to them. I myself had depression, so I saw the signs alongside his obvious "take that, depression!". He instantly became my favorite character. Our little awkard, depressed, loving, short king. xD
Irl in the Bible Lucifer was the highest ranking angel of them all: the most beautiful, talented, and beloved of all of God’s angels. He was an archangel in the Bible, so, the most powerful. He wasn’t a god, but he wanted to be, hence his fall: he was jealous of God and His ability to create life.
@@SuaNam08 Lucifer doesn't exist in the Bible. Also seraphim are actually the highest rank of angels, not archangels. And Lucifer was a seraphim. And his fall was caused by his pride, not jealousy
Fun fact: in lucifers hells greatest dad song, the cake we see are the colours of the lesbian flag. Another hint at lucifer trying to be supportive but failing. (Charlie is bisexual, not a lesbian. Vaggie is a lesbian though)
Something interesting to note about lucifer which was mentioned in ep 1 was that he never saw the good in humanity that he brought for them and it really shows off how sad and depressing his story actually is. Firstly, hes only seen these sinners and their wretchedness so he blames himself for everything and never thinks hes good enough which also plays a role in why he wasnt close with charlie. He never called or spoke to her because he thought he would he a burden to her and be a waste of time hence why he occupies his time with making duckies. Secondly, when he said theses sinners are bad he probably soet of believes that very little human souls are in heaven and most of humanity is doomed to always be evil. Lastly, when lucifer says 'looks loke the apple doesnt fall far' and charlie replies with 'took you a while' its possible that she knew she took after him and was angry that he never saw it and the reason she says they 'were never close after mum split' alludes to the sense of self blame that lucifer feels also evident where he throws the duck at the picture and looking guilty. Its possible he not only blames himself for the evil in the world but also for making Lilith go to hell with him. Essentially Charlie wasnt upset that her dad barley spoke to her but was upset by the fact he viewed himself as worthless and unworthy
I’ve watched like 10 or so people react to the Hazbin hotel series and this is the first one I see where it is catches that it already has been 5 months. You got a good ear!
I’d like to tack onto your theory! I’d also say he loves rubber ducks because they squeak, JUST like Charlie! When she bounces, when people hug her, when she’s overly excited, anytime her body is contracted she squeaks!
@@kimikolee7313 Also their song together imply that the one time Charlie saw him making ducks was the last time he saw her smiling before Lilith took her away
I dont necessarily think he tried to save sinners, exactly, but was referencing his attempts to get Heaven to listen to him before he was cast down. He was trying to help humans but was deemed bad and punished and that has seriously traumatized him even all this time later. His punishment was never seeing the good of man which is why hes so skeptical her plan will work, and he knows how scary heaven can be when you try and go up against them. He just wants to protect her, but he also acknowledges she has to make her own path and he will support her in whatever she does even if he does think it won't work. And deep down I'm sure he hopes she will succeed. She's given him hope again for the first time in a long time.
I believe Jeremy Jordan the voice actor for Lucifer has mentioned in an interview that he was going for a mixture that had similar vibe to the genie's song. So i think you were spot on. 😂
Lucifer using an accordion is a reference to who Vivziepop wanted as Lucifer originally.....Weird Al Yankovic. Mimzy is voiced by Sara Stiles AKA Spinel from Steven Universe.
To vaguely explain Alastors outbursts towards Lucifer - Alastor was a Mama’s boy when he was still alive. His Dad was rumored to be abusive towards his mother, so he has a natural groll towards men (and his dad might also be his first ever kill) but absolutely loves and protects women , and especially respects them. Witnessing Charlies rather bad relationship to her father probably reminded him of him and his own father, and knowing that Charlie does need help from Lucifer, but him barely taking her hotel project seriously, ticked Alastor off, so he deliberately caused a fight to ‘wake up’ Lucifer and make him change his mind, and take his role as Charlies father and King of Hell seriously, and the power that comes with it - aka giving Charlie the chance to speak to Heaven.
The backstory mainly contains of crumbs we got from Viv from super old interviews with her. She did confirm that Alastor was a Mama's Boy, and so did she that his relationship with his dad wasn't exactly...great. Knowing how Viv likes to point on the strong problem with misogyny, and crumbs from other interviews where she hinted on backstories, it's just piecing 1:1 together and a lot of theorizing and discussing about it. It also gets more obvious on how he treats women vs men as the story progresses (esp. in Episode 7), and rewatching the episodes, including the Pilot, makes it blatantly obvious that he has a lot more respect for women than men. Another crumb that is confirmed about Alastor is that he's Mixed Creole, his mother being a POC and his father being white. Knowing that he lived in the 1920's of Lousiana (died in 1933) the racism was pretty strong, even in-between mixed race relationships. He must have been white-passing enough to get a decent job as a radio host, but him saying "This face was made for radio" hits a bit different once you know that he was Mixed Creole, putting on the transatlantic accent to hide his true accent (the accent was also easier to pick up by radio waves, and ig he stuck with it pretty much to hide behind it.) Also Alastor hates swearing bc swearing wasn't allowed on radio, so his few outbursts are just much more funny once you know this XD
That's.... not what it is at all. Viv even confirmed that his only beef with Lucifer is the fact that he feels threatened by a being more powerful than him. He doesn't actually care. Alastor likes being the one in control of a space or people, and he's self serving. He can't control or threaten Lucifer with fear or power, so all he can do is poke at his insecurities. It's not that deep. Alastor is just petty.
Good theory but from what we've seen alastor doesn't care for women or men which is evident from the amount of angels(who are women) he killed. Hes only helping Charlie for his own goals which are currently unknown and the whole thing about 'waking' Lucifer is also unlikely as if I remember correctly it was confirmed that alastor was just intimidated by him and knowing he wouldn't win in a fight against Lucifer he was trying to to one up him
Just a little thing I find interesting, Alastor tells Mimsy “I can’t have that here” when he is sending her away. Idk I might be reading too much into it but I find the ‘can’t’ very interesting wording
He was actually rather gentle about sending her away. He told her she could come back when she was serious about redemption but he didn't act violently with her.
Husk's name is actually just 'Husk' :) Husker is jusg a nickname given to him bg Mimzy and Alastor. A lot of people tend to mix that up On another note, I love this episode. Luci is 100% my favorite character for both his depth and how entertaining he is to watch
Alastor is a deer despite all his grandeur so i like to think that he gets on edge and uneasy around stronger beings, result of his prey instincts. But because he is Alastor his natural reaction to that feeling is to be aggressive and confrontational, thats why he was poking at Lucifer's temper oe something
Almost at is a deer for two reasons- 1) he was killed by a hunter who mistook him for a deer in the woods and 2) when he goes ‘full demon’ his form represents a wendigo which ties into his cannibalistic nature
Vivzie explained that all the step dad show Alastor plays was to one up Lucifer since he coulld not match him in power and aldo he didn't want not to be the biggest man in the room.
@@SilverScribe85 genuine question but have you watched gravity falls? @@SilverScribe85The most powerful thing we've seen Lucifer do is creating the champagne fountain and polymorphing himself. Bill can control minds‚ warp reality in a whole town‚ and boasted being able to eat planets and carve valleys with a finger. Those two are just not comparable to each other.
The rubber ducks is kind of a joke between the creator and her friend. Lucifer is an angel of creation, so they wanted Lucifer's workshop to be "filled with all kinds of crap" and her friend jokingly said "what if it was all rubber ducks" and they thought it was hilarious and she was reminded of a VEGGIETALES episode where they did a kid-friendly retelling of a bible story called "David and Bathsheba" (which is kinda fucked up) with rubber ducks, so they rolled with it.
So, my theory regarding Alastor protecting the hotel is this: The one holding Alastor's "leash" is obviously Lilith. Aside from Lucifer, who doesn't know Alastor, Lilith would be the only one with the power to subjugate him, and he disappeared right around the same time she did, 7 years ago. I think Alastor is trying to use Charlie and gain Charlie's trust and favor as a way to gain some sort of leverage back from Lilith. So, his protecting the hotel is serious, he can't have someone like Mimzy bring danger there because if something happens to the hotel, or more likely Charlie since she's probably going to be in the hotel if something goes down, he'd lose that potential leverage.
In terms of "Husker" - his name is Husk. Only two people have called him Husker, Alastor and Mimzy (probably by proxy due to Alastor). Alastor probably calls him by a nick name on purpose as part of a power play, or it could be part of their past that we haven't seen yet.
@@malkarissI do wonder if the nickname is a play on huckster which, around the time Alastor was alive, was a nickname for a card shark. Huckster was also a nickname for people who sold advertising copy for radio and later television and in general, it was used for devious people selling untrustworthy wears through showmanship. Since Husk was a gambling Overlord and now works for the Radio Demon, Alastor might find the nickname amusing.
Fun fact: in the Italian version of Lucifer and Alastor’s song, instead of referring to his own «pure angelic power», Lucifer’s line says «there’s nothing like a Seraphim angel» - your analysis is correct! (And I must say I’m very proud of this adaptation in my language because of the minutious effort and attention to detail they put in it!)
17:00 Lucifer was given many names and titles in both the bible and extra literature. He was implied to be a seraph as the closest angel to god before his fall. He was given the title of "the anointed cherub" in Ezekiel 28:14-16. And he is often associated with the archangels due to his status. He may have been a completely different type of angel altogether, one specifically made by god to be more powerful and more beautiful than the rest, which then became the source of his pride. He was the most powerful being ever created and that blinded him, making him want to be greater than his creator.
Lucifer being second to god in power is something that has been added on to him later. He was unusually close to god, and the most beautiful, but angelology makes a mess of it all. Michael used to be considered above seraphim alongside Raphael and Gabriel(who stands over the Seraphs and Cherubim) in Judaism as well as early christian Apocrypha(Enoch, which Jesus quotes, specifically ranks these guys above all but Metatron, Gods Scribe, and Seraphiel, Metatron's protector and the prince of Seraphim). As an anointed cherub, Lucifer is not on par with that. Christian Angelology is interesting because it clashes hard with a lot of stuff, including jewish angelology(in which the Seraphim's rank is not nearly as set in stone, some hierachy placing them as the lowest with the malahkim, regular messenge angels ranking far above them). Making the Archangels(The Chief Angels) an low ranking order rather than a rank for the very elite is one of these. A lot of Lucifer being second to god was then parsed through that, which is how he goes from anointed cherub to Seraphim, because he has to be that as Seraphim rank the highest in christian angelology. It's actually quite fascinating.
The visuals we see in these songs are actually happening. The same can be said for most of the songs, for example, in Charlie and Pentious’s duet she created a pink trail of hearts, and in Hell Is Forever she throws a rainbow towards Adam and Lute that fly’s over their heads. The visuals were actually real in both of these cases. We have seen that the more powerful demons have the ability to warp reality, which we see Lucifer do here in these two songs. We also see Charlie and Alastor warp reality several times throughout the series, both in and outside musical numbers. Vivziepop herself said that Lucifer and Charlie can bend reality. I think she confirmed the visuals in the songs are real as well, but I’m not certain, so I’m not going to state that she did, but I feel like I remember her saying that as well. Anyways, I’m not certain about other demons like overlords, but Alastor managed to manifest a bayou in his room plus he summoned an entire recording set and team, as well as new clothes all with the snap of his fingers in episode one, so I think it’s safe to say he has this ability, at least to some extent.
Mean during his reprise in the pilot he did manifest clothes and the shadow back up dancers so he does have reality warping to some extent just not a much as Charlie and Lucifer (as seen with him not being able to make duplicates). Higher up hellborns such as stolas also seem to have that ability, literally creating a portal that leads to the middle of a supernova in deep space (while he and octavia seemed to not be bothered with at all). I feel like overlords are able to do it considering Vox during "Stayed Gone" did attempt to teleport in front of Alastors radio at one point (tho Alastor prevented it) (the duplication stuff he did during that I would not consider it as it was on a screen) and Velvette during Respectless did change the lighting of the room and summon the text wall thingy behind her, but mainly use it as a way of persuasion, making a good public image, and showmanship. The other songs involving overlords without the reality warping such as Whatever it takes, Out for Love, and Finale seem like rather vulnerable or private moments where the overlord doesn't have to try and convince others or keep up public appearances.
I don't know if it's headcanon or actually true, but I've heard that the scenes and effects that happen during songs are supposed to be seen as actually happening in real life. The weirdest shit happens when the people singing are powerful, so it makes sense.
There's an theory of the fans that Alastor's soul is owned by lilith and that made him so powerful, she probably also made him go to Hotel to protect charlie against the angels, so he needs to protect her and the hotel but he can't at any circumstance take charlie's soul on a deal. So Alastor Basically is trying to get Charlie on his side to maybe make her help freeing his leash from Lilith's grasp
From what I heard from other comments is that yes, what's happening on the song is really what happening in there, which most likely has to do with their own powers. Probably
Stumbled on your channel and i gotta say i really like your reaction to this ep a lot! Most reactors tend to somehow miss some really important lines or just not address them, so im very happy to see someone attentive to whatever is going on around ! We love our story appreciators I subbed and im def gonna have a great time watching your reaction to the other episodes :)
32:00 I love when reactors pause !! Not only do they prevent themselves from talking over dialogue but they also give time to share their thoughts on what is currently happening- which again, I absolutely adore Say yes to pausing!
if i remember correctly vivzie actually said lucifer is autistic and is hyperfixated on ducks and was hyperfixated on them when he was an angel as well but the other angels ridiculed him for it
I don't think the one moment of swearing was out of character if Alastor's mama's boy backstory is still true plus Lucifer insulting one of his ideas. those two things might've gotten under his skin seriously deeply enough to make him angry enough to cuss at Lucifer.
He isn't. Some tellings has him as second only to god, but not all, and he rarely actually has a statement on when he was created. Unlike say, Israfil(Raphael) in islam, who is specified as the most ancient angel. Lucifer's actual rank differs a lot on telling(he is sometimes a seraph, and he's biblically a cherubim), but he is consistently the most beautiful of the angels, being the Morningstar.
@@soveryumble7250 Also, before the name was associated with The Devil through a mistranslation and beef between two Catholic saints he was actually worshipped as the Roman version of the son of the goddess Venus or Eosphoros in Greek Mythology. So yeah, like Lucifer was seen as a chick at one point. Really makes you think of the whole "Most beautiful angel" idea in a totally new way, huh?
Idk if someone pointed it out already but even if we don't know whether the illustrations of hell greatest were real or not Lucifer can do more than manifest things he can create life Razzle and Dazzle were created by him for Charlie and probably the same goes for Keekee. Also in the italian dub instead if angelic power he say “non c’è niente come un angelo serafino” “there’s nothing better than a seraphim angel” so yeah I’m also intrigued
Ive never thought about if Lucifer was actually making all of those things happening in the song. I think its so cool to think that he can do all of that.
I'm so glad that you pointed out the resemblance between Genie's Friend Like Me and and Lucifer's Hell's Greatest Dad. Jeremy Jordan, the actor who plays Lucifer in Hazbin Hotel, stated that he used Friend Like Me and Robin Williams' Genie as inspiration for Lucifer's character. I enjoyed your reaction and look forward to seeing more! Edit: I forgot to mention that there are visual references to Friend Like Me in the song Lucifer sang. The slot machine is a good example. A slot machine appears in Genie's song as well. There are other references, but I can't remember them off the top of my head
Hey man, just found this channel after searching for a more sincere and introspective reaction to this show, and I'm so glad you provided one! If you'd like, here's my take on the more fantastical elements during some of the songs, like multiple Lucifers and changing backgrounds: The most powerful ententies in this Hell-verse all seem to gain a kind of reality-bending magic, that seems to be accessible once you reach a certain power threshold. Lucifer was a creator seraph when he was cast down, so his bloodline (Charlie) is the strongest in hell, has access to the best of the reality magic, and have residual angelic magic on top of that. So he can basically create anything on a whim, and change your POV into anything he can imagine, and Charlie can to a lesser degree but she seems to conciusly hold back to not "show off" (except when she gets really into singing lol). Overlords like Alastor and Vox can also access a type of reality magic, but it's more limited by the source of their base power. Making deals and collecting souls seems to be the main way they rise in power, and they stick to a domain where they can remain the strongest. They also seem to have somewhat personalized powers as they get stronger, too. So Vox can probably create anything he wants in his TV broadcasts, project his power anywhere there are TV's and cameras, and has one of the strongest hypnotic powers that's more personalized. Alastor seems to have multiple asterisks attached to his power levels (was he stronger before? Is something else besides his deals giving him power?) but in essence he's just more powerful than Vox, and his domain of radio waves is the root of Vox's T.V. signal domain, so Alastor can do almost everthing Vox can do (change sounds, bend people's POV) even in Vox's homw turf. On top of that, Alastor owns so many souls that he's probably second only to Lucifer's blood in Hell-magic proficiency. All that to say: a lot of what you're seeing in the songs could actually be happening in real time to the bystanders watching, especially if someone very powerful is singing and interacting with the changing scenery. Sorry for the long comment! I thought that you deserved someone putting as much effort into helping you break down the show as you are, and thanks again for your thoughtful reaction to this current obsession of mine!
I believe they based some of lucifer's part in hell's greatest dad as a tribute reference to the genie. His va Jeremy Jordan, if i am to remember correctly, wanted to do that. At least, someone had put up that idea because it is far more than a simple coincidence to be shown this way i think.
Look at it from Lucifer's perspective he is despised by heaven or rather his own kind (other angels) for his mistake. Not only is he in hell but he's the reason why sinners are their in the first place and he's constantly surrounded by his mistake never to see the good that came from giving humanity freewill then on top of that his wife leaves him. There equal to Alastor doesn't like Lucifer for whatever reason likely because Lucifer makes him feel small and knows that its not even a contest when it comes to power all he can to do dominate him is to "out dad" Lucifer, so he can use Charlie as a shield.
Yeah, folks are actually warping reality during their songs. It's my personal theory that Alastor became interested in Charlie during the Pilot because she was warping reality in a TV studio, which is Vox's Place of Power. If she could do that, and Vox couldn't stop her, she would be a powerful ally. I don't know if that's canon anymore, though.
There`s an old Christian parable called "The Devil and the Duck." If you recall in "More Than Anything", in the flashback to Charlie being raised by Lucifer as a child, in the middle we see Charlie looking in awe as her father magically turns a duck into a multi-winged swan, so Lucifer`s obsession with rubber ducks and wanting to be closer to Charlie is both to show he`s eccentric like his daughter as well as coding him as neurodivergent and reflecting how he misses the innocence and beauty he had in Heaven but knows that`s unattainable since the fall which is why he`s so depressed plus giving humanity free will unwittingly bringing sin and evil into the world or at least giving it a foothold on Earth.
Its my opinion that Lucifer instantly realized that Vaggie was an angel. See how he hugs her, he checked her back where her wings should be and felt they'd been torn off and knew right away what happened.
Love your reaction to this episode, and your insights! Something that is interesting to note about Lilith and being faceless is the fact that Lilith, in mythology, is an embodiment of miscarriage and infants who die... and the only time we see them together as a trio, is her faceless, taking Charlie away from Lucifer. It's just potentially odd. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos!
I think that a lot of Alastor's brilliance is that while he is playing his cards close to the chest, we definitely don't know everything he's after, I'm fairly confident the parts he HAS shown are true. Alastor says multiple times he's here to watch the hotel fail for his own entertainment, and that he needs to protect his investment. Both of those are true. He can't get any joy over watching sinners fail if the hotel never gets off the ground, and he can't complete his full plan if Charlie straight up replaces him with her dad - who is exponentially more powerful and more than willing to step in if asked. Alastor 100% picks a fight with Lucifer in an attempt to convince Charlie to continue relying on him instead of Lucifer. And yes, he absolutely has successfully manipulated her into thinking he actually cares about her and supports her vision.
The much more realistic but much less represented type of deadbeat: the type so wrapped up in their own issues they just don’t have enough space in their head for loved ones, and fear trying for causing more damage.
When your talking about the stuff happening in the songs i think for the most part, the answer is yes. But for stayed gone, remember Vox plugged cords in to himself to use when he went live, i think he uses that to control the visuals he uses in his parts of it. That's why he talks to himself briefly or suddenly has alastor colored deer head on a platter etc. This is emphasized when alastor reveals he asked him to join and it shows him teleporting in front of the radio. But when it pulls back. That's only on the tv's not the other room.
See, its actually really obvious why Lilith's appearance is obscured in that flashback. It's because the scene is about Charlie and Lucifer, not her. So her face is obscured so that you don't pause in the middle of the big emotional musical number to obsess over what Lilith looks like...oops.
I don't know if you've seen the separate information that the author has already given about Alastor (about him being a radio announcer and cannibal serial killer, about his death, about his mother, etc.) If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend looking for it, it's really cool to see him knowing these other little details behind the story
36:28 In the original text, it is Elohim who created the heavens and the earth and everything in between, and that word does have the possible interpretation of "the council of god" which is loosely believed to refer to angels or human rulers or judges. With so many sources contradicting each other, the creators of the show took the meanings they wanted and ran with them to craft their story.
To answer your question regarding hells greatest dad what you see in that portion is actually reality everything Lucifer and alastor were doing was altering and bending reality now obviously Lucifer is able to do it on a much grander scale since he is the king of hell and a fallen Angel that had spend so much time in hell he had evolved to adapt to hell which meaning he not only has both Angel abilities and demon but everything that happened during that segment was their bending and contorting of it
"He sent her away for a reason..." I think it's less to do with his leash, and more to do with realising that Angels can be killed. And that it's less to do with the hotel than Charlie's welfare. Because while he was trolling Lucifer about being a substitute Dad, I thinknhe genuinely sees himself as a mentor.
Mimzy has been a lore character since before the pilot came out. They were even looking for voices for her when they were casting everyone else for the pilot. She just never made it into the final product. And honestly, I'm kind of glad, because while she works as a brief obstacle, I don't think she's main cast material.
I've been watching a lot of reactions from the series (yours are incredible, by the way) and I love seeing absolutely everyone 100% intrigued by Alastor, everyone racking their brains to understand what is his point there
Lucifer is/was a Seraphim. He has six wings like the Seraphim and in episode 8, his coat has the same eyes on it that Sera and Emily have. Also, the Italian version of Hell's Greatest Dad just straight up calls him "A Seraphim Angel" instead of saying "Pure angelic power". Side note: I think Lucifer likes ducks because of the Ugly Duckling story. Lucifer being the black sheep of the angels makes sense.
Alastor knows that Lucifer could atomize him in a actual fight. He just pokes fun cause he can tell Lucifer is reluctant too do things too make his presence known. He knows that because he is a precious ally of Charlie he can irritate Lucifer into action with minimal fear of retribution.
I think the stuff that happens in the songs *is* happening. If we consider that in this world Magic is real. Then one thing we need to consider is that in many faiths and mythologies, Music carries Magic or amplifies it. So I like to think that during song, a lot of the already powerful beings become straight up reality warpers.
My guess with Mimzy is that Alastor somehow conned her to show up (payment, etc) to make himself seem better to the others. Hence her showing up singing like everyone would know about her appearance/self. He’s also absolutely opportunistic and taking advantage of Charlie’s father issues/the divide between Charlie and Lucifer.
Alastor loves to mess with people. He always finds something to pick on. Since Lucifer is the "big D in charge" he can't do much to him. And he hates when he's not in control.. luckily for him Luci is insecure little man, so he caught the opportunity in a chokehold and squeezed absolute soul out of it.. maybe playing into his big plan too, who knows.. he seems to care about the hotel. I always saw it that he protects his source of entertainment he was looking for for decades as he said in the pilot... buuut maybe there is bigger picture behind it.. I sooo wanna know what's his deal... literally, even xD any yep, the plot in the song actually happened. Alastor did throw a piano at Lucifer.. (stop it in the right moment if you are lucky enough)
Beyond just Alastor just being a sadistic sunavabich I almost see it as him purposefully poking Lucifer emotionally so he will try harder to reconcile with Charlie if that's old Al's way of doing something nice or if it's for his own means like if Charlie's close to Lucy then I'm close to Lucy by proxy because we're business partners
bro did he NOT pay attention to the beginning of ep1 where charlie was sharing the origin story of hell in this universe? lucifer was shown with 6 wings there too
So I will avoid spoilers for the coming episodes but give you what notions I have about whats going on. If you go back and look at the pilot immediately after Charlie calls Lilith and leaves a message Alastor shows up at the door. It is very likely Lilith that holds Alastor's soul. She likely gave him power in exchange for his soul. And then she set him a charge to hunt down and kill the Overlords that were more predatory towards the denizens of Hell. Lilith had been trying to rally them together to form a proper community. But the predatory Overlords would have opposed this as they wanted them divided to be easy prey. So she used Alastor as a club to beat the predatory ones into the ground. If you noticed in ep 4 the two primary Overlords Zestial and Carmilla both showed empathy and compassion for others. They survived Alastor's purge and may even be able to stand against him. But it was likely he never targeted them because they were caring. Once a void was created by the death of so many Overlords other sinners rose to take their place. But The Vees rose faster than most. Fast enough that they actually were a threat to Alastor. The Vees talk about Vox and Alastor having a fight that Vox almost lost. Which means he won but it was a close fight. Alastor was forced to retreat. This resulted in both Alastor and Lilith going missing for 7 years. More clues about that in coming episodes.
Lucifer is often depicted as a seraph with six wings whether it is theologically accurate or not. The creators of this series didn't make it up from out of nowhere.
This is absolutely spot on!
@@Banananananananananananaaanna thats a good theory!

Common*
My read of Lucifer is that he was the seraphim of joy and happiness before Emily, which is why he's always shown like... making toys, shooting off fireworks, running a theme park, etc and why he looks like a circus ringmaster. And he still wants to be that person, wants to find that passion again, but he can't because of the big sad
Also, for Alastor, I suspect the truth is... He has realized before anyone else that while the rest of hell underestimates Charlie, one day she is going to be incredibly powerful. Maybe even more than Lucifer or Lilith. And he wants to he her trusted right hand. Her Jafar. So that he can take advantage of that power at just the right moment for some selfish goal of his own
And this episode included two threats to those plans:
Mimzy, who doesn't care about Charlie and would easily let something bad happen to her and the hotel.
Some interesting points there!
Yes, but he's also on a leash. Considering he vanished 7 years ago, and Lilith also vanished 7 years ago, I suspect its Lilith that has his soul. And she probably ordered him to watch over Charlie and the hotel and protect her.
I also feel like his the other animal forms were for entertainment and also bring joy and happiness
Lucifer does love his daughter. Its the depression. It convinces him to stay away from his loved ones, believing he's just a burden to them. I myself had depression, so I saw the signs alongside his obvious "take that, depression!". He instantly became my favorite character. Our little awkard, depressed, loving, short king. xD

17:00 Actually Lucifer is a seraphim in the original mith, even Dante identifies him like that
Seraph. Seraphim is plural.
@@orangesoda4535 "Seraphim" can be used both as singular than plural. For example Sera is called "Head Seraphim"
@@fabriziobiancucci7702 The term “Lucifer” comes from Isaiah 14, which is translated into English as “Morning star.”
Fun fact: in lucifers hells greatest dad song, the cake we see are the colours of the lesbian flag. Another hint at lucifer trying to be supportive but failing.
(Charlie is bisexual, not a lesbian. Vaggie is a lesbian though)
Awww he's doing his best
As a bisexual, there are too many flags for each vague category and they often overlap.
Essentially Charlie wasnt upset that her dad barley spoke to her but was upset by the fact he viewed himself as worthless and unworthy
lucifer does have depression and legitmately cares for charlie, but depression can really be a bitch

My own headcanon as to why Lucifer is obsessed with ducks so much, is that he see's himself as kind of the ugly duckling since he was cast from heaven
Ohhhh...that makes sense actually
I’d like to tack onto your theory! I’d also say he loves rubber ducks because they squeak, JUST like Charlie! When she bounces, when people hug her, when she’s overly excited, anytime her body is contracted she squeaks!
@@kimikolee7313 Also their song together imply that the one time Charlie saw him making ducks was the last time he saw her smiling before Lilith took her away
Not only does Lucifer pull Charlie away from the swords/light, he uses his back to shield that light from Charlie afterwards.

@@malkarisshe's resigned to being a target of the angels but once the spotlight is on charlie he shields and protects her from their light himself

If you listen... Alastor also loses the radio filter when he drops the F-bomb
Because you cant curse on radio!
This makes a lot of sense. Just wondering where the extra back story comes from? I heard there was comics but I haven't found them yet?
He must have been white-passing enough to get a decent job as a radio host, but him saying "This face was made for radio" hits a bit different once you know that he was Mixed Creole, putting on the transatlantic accent to hide his true accent (the accent was also easier to pick up by radio waves, and ig he stuck with it pretty much to hide behind it.)
Also Alastor hates swearing bc swearing wasn't allowed on radio, so his few outbursts are just much more funny once you know this XD
Woe is him, he's still a cannibalistic murderer hell bent on domination. I still think he's only doing this because of his contract. 😅
That's.... not what it is at all.

Alastor is a deer despite all his grandeur so i like to think that he gets on edge and uneasy around stronger beings, result of his prey instincts. that or Alastor is just a bastard. lol
@Shalltear7why73 why not both?

Well lucifer was a seraphim and the right hand of god so it's right he has six wings
I wonder if he lost any of his power/ability when he was cast out of Heaven?
@bennh3181 "Moral Pragmatist - TV Tropes"
In terms of "Husker" - his name is Husk. Only two people have called him Husker, Alastor and Mimzy (probably by proxy due to Alastor). Alastor probably calls him by a nick name on purpose as part of a power play, or it could be part of their past that we haven't seen yet.
I could totally see Alastor calling him a slightly wrong name just to get under his skin haha

I don't think the one moment of swearing was out of character if Alastor's mama's boy backstory is still true plus Lucifer insulting one of his ideas. those two things might've gotten under his skin seriously deeply enough to make him angry enough to cuss at Lucifer.
lucifer is the first angel ever. he has the most power out of any singular angel yknow.
Thank you so much! :) I appreciate you and the extra information/theories. I love the idea of the songs being actually really occuring.
A fan theory as to why Lucifer is obsessed with ducks is because of the story of the "ugly duckling"
There equal to
Alastor doesn't like Lucifer for whatever reason likely because Lucifer makes him feel small and knows that its not even a contest when it comes to power all he can to do dominate him is to "out dad" Lucifer, so he can use Charlie as a shield.
I totally missed the part where he and Lilith split. I think I heard it but it didn't really register. This makes a lot of sense too.
Charlie is bisexual. She actually had a boyfriend before Vaggie.
Whoever owned Alastor soul really want to help Lucifer daughter that why he is protecting the Hotel
I think Al cares because they are "his toys" and as long as they are his,he will protect them and as long doesn't put his life in serious danger
Its my opinion that Lucifer instantly realized that Vaggie was an angel. See how he hugs her, he checked her back where her wings should be and felt they'd been torn off and knew right away what happened.
Eve being the one who has Alastor on a leash is a crazy theory, but I like it!
Thank you so much :) I appreciate you!
Lucy was forced into damnation because he was a dreamer open thinker and child like at heart.... dangerous to the laws of "creation"
You are the first person that I've seen that actually noticed the 6 wings and the meaning behind them very impressed
I don't know if you've seen the separate information that the author has already given about Alastor (about him being a radio announcer and cannibal serial killer, about his death, about his mother, etc.) If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend looking for it, it's really cool to see him knowing these other little details behind the story
i think the six wings are cause he is an Arch Angel unless im wrong
36:28 In the original text, it is Elohim who created the heavens and the earth and everything in between, and that word does have the possible interpretation of "the council of god" which is loosely believed to refer to angels or human rulers or judges. With so many sources contradicting each other, the creators of the show took the meanings they wanted and ran with them to craft their story.
To answer your question regarding hells greatest dad what you see in that portion is actually reality everything Lucifer and alastor were doing was altering and bending reality now obviously Lucifer is able to do it on a much grander scale since he is the king of hell and a fallen Angel that had spend so much time in hell he had evolved to adapt to hell which meaning he not only has both Angel abilities and demon but everything that happened during that segment was their bending and contorting of it
Genie's song was actually one of the two that inspired the dad song. The other one is "Other Friends" from Steven Universe.
Remember that Alastor is on someone's leash himself
the mother kept them apart for so long they became strangers
A biblically accurate classification for Lucifer would be a Cherubim.
"He sent her away for a reason..."
I think it's less to do with his leash, and more to do with realising that Angels can be killed. And that it's less to do with the hotel than Charlie's welfare.
Because while he was trolling Lucifer about being a substitute Dad, I thinknhe genuinely sees himself as a mentor.
Nice reaction. Cool to find a reaction channel so early in their growth. I look forward to all your future reactions.
Mimzy has been a lore character since before the pilot came out. They were even looking for voices for her when they were casting everyone else for the pilot. She just never made it into the final product.
And honestly, I'm kind of glad, because while she works as a brief obstacle, I don't think she's main cast material.
I've been watching a lot of reactions from the series (yours are incredible, by the way) and I love seeing absolutely everyone 100% intrigued by Alastor, everyone racking their brains to understand what is his point there
I was not expecting the accurate angel information, good on you!
IIRC Lucifer was the most powerful Angel in paradise lost, making him a Seraph Rank, who are commonly depicted with six wings.
Am I the only one that noticed that during the song when Lucifer says “which also happens to be your blood” he’s bleeding by his mouth???
helluva boss implies a god figure in background details
Alastor loves to mess with people. He always finds something to pick on. Since Lucifer is the "big D in charge" he can't do much to him. And he hates when he's not in control.. luckily for him Luci is insecure little man, so he caught the opportunity in a chokehold and squeezed absolute soul out of it.. maybe playing into his big plan too, who knows.. he seems to care about the hotel. I always saw it that he protects his source of entertainment he was looking for for decades as he said in the pilot... buuut maybe there is bigger picture behind it.. I sooo wanna know what's his deal... literally, even xD
any yep, the plot in the song actually happened. Alastor did throw a piano at Lucifer.. (stop it in the right moment if you are lucky enough)
also lucifers obsession with ducks is because ducks remind him of charlie
Beyond just Alastor just being a sadistic sunavabich I almost see it as him purposefully poking Lucifer emotionally so he will try harder to reconcile with Charlie if that's old Al's way of doing something nice or if it's for his own means like if Charlie's close to Lucy then I'm close to Lucy by proxy because we're business partners
bro did he NOT pay attention to the beginning of ep1 where charlie was sharing the origin story of hell in this universe? lucifer was shown with 6 wings there too
10:26 yup, it's funny the first ten or so times but after that it does start to get on your nerves lol
One of many questions until Season Two release: "Who really is Alastor?"
8:05 yes that's first swear, closest before that was pissy in stayed gone
It depends on the mythology for sure, but he certainly is sometimes good point!
13:20 Most likely this is real. Alastor did the same thing in the pilot.
