Tight episodic writing in the SF melodrama style. Well done. You told a more compelling story in 21 minutes than the professional Paramount writers tell in 10 hours today....and you didn't litter it with fan service Easter eggs to convince audiences this is a Star Trek story. The subject handling is exactly what better SF writers of the past did. You took a similar to contemporary conflict and set it in an alien but similar world. You allow the audience to see the repercussions and what ifs for themselves. Bravo.

The story seems to be based on "A cure worse than the disease". The first adventure in the Star Trek Adventures Mission Compendium Vol. 2. We played it on a Nova class too. Thanks for producing this. Brought back a lot of fond memories.
It certainly is, based on the story by Fred Love! We came across it a few years ago and thought it was frighteningly close to what is/was happening in the world and perfect to adapt :) Thanks for watching

Once again Star Trek most importantly mirrors the issues of our contemporary reality. Thank you all for another very impressive and very inspiring Star Trek fan film. 🖖🏻🖖🏼🖖🏽🖖🏾🖖🏿
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Just as Gene Roddenberry used future settings to address real problems here on Earth, this was the best expose of the modern pharmaceutical industry corporatocracy that I've seen ANYWHERE...
This is an excellent fan-produced Trek episode. It's very timely given what we went through over past two years. It touches upon many of the ethical issues debated during our own pandemic (e.g., Should Big Pharma companies allowed to make a profit out of vaccines and new treatment for a novel virus, should the government put its entire population in an isolation/lockdown your entire population in order to protect lives & preserve public health or should you learn to live with the virus? etc). In true Trek tradition all these ethical questions are being questioned and addressed on the background, not "in your face." IMHO no Trek series hasn't had an episode that discussed a virus outbreak/pandemic and its consequences to given society in a serious manner. "TNG's "Naked Now" and "Genesis" treated virus outbreaks more like a parody rather than a serious reflection. Voyager did introduce us to the Vidiians as an alien race whom struggled with centuries-old pandemic that has changed its entire society, but presented them as villains instead of a homeworld that should be helped by Voyager and its crew. Very pleased to see that this fan episode did manage to portray a new virus outbreak seriously and also best portrayed how would a Federation ship and its crew sent to help out would've reacted to what do they find once they landed and the ethical issues facing them on the ground. Well done!!
Thank you so much for your response! Super glad to hear that you enjoyed it. 'Outbreak' is based on an excellent little story from the 'Star Trek Adventures' roleplaying series, and was scarily similar to the pandemic the world is currently going through so we thought it was a perfect story to adapt as a fan film, especially in this current climate.

They're so lucky the Federation found them before the Ferengi did. Would've done a hostile takeover.. No corp is ever so bad another one can't move in and make it worse!
This was fun. It had all the hallmarks of a professional production and one of the best fan films I've seen. Although the storyline is truncated by virtue of the 20 minute format, it was well-paced and held your attention. Like all good Star Trek it was topical, and managed to stay just this side of preachy, probably because the young Starfleet scientist (don't know her name) was feisty and likeable. And all the Aussie accents bring back happy memories of Farscape. Will eagerly check out the rest of the playlist.
This episode reminded me of the episode Critical Care (VOY), where the doctor is forced to work on a medical ship and his treatment times controlled by a computer. Cytoglobin for everyone!

Watching now. I like that you're using the Nova/Rhode Island. It's the Scrappy Do of the TNG era! :) Not everything should be set on a heavy cruiser or battleship.
It works well for us that the USS 'Explorer' is a science-class vessel too! Great little, underused ship.
"It's the scrappy doo of the tng era". So it's an annoying, worthless puddle of uselessness also?
