Oddly enough, the older / grainier actor centric footage gave this a very 1980's TV feel. Like an episode I had missed as a kid.

    1) Good opening, beginning "in the middle of things" with an event that gets the audience's attention quickly.

No choice! It was filmed in the mid to late 80s with film that produced actual grain. Newer scenes shot in the past 12 years had grain added to them in order to maintain continuity since it's easier to add grain than to remove it.

My complaments to writers, cast and crew. Editing is notable, as is art production. The use of 16mm style image texture, and high contrast exposure was inspired, and gave the entire production a compelling noir feel. It counteracted the use of flat period stage lighting, which jars against the underlying modern editing techniques.
This whole thing is very refreshing.

    Perfect cast choice for Nogura.
Sulu as 1st Officer on point and fits into established canon easily- after the events of STTMP circa 2270-72, Sulu was offered the position sometime during the (widely assumed) TMP 5 year mission circa 2270-2275. The anesthetic of the ship refit is superior to the original 1965 model. The nacelles more centered in a surround of the center of mass, the lighting on the deflector dish. Very artistic.
Since the production is still maintaining the ship mission patches as uniform badges unique to each ship, the insignia on the port and starboard should likely have the Yorktown shape instead of the Enterprise badge....however TOS every ship had enterprise's badge since they were either reuse of Enterprise footage or made from the AMT models (Doomsday and Tribbles)

Unbelievable. Kicks New Trek dead in the ass! Don't even explain how you made Takei so young, I was just staring at him over and over....then I heard his voice, on site audio. Amazing. This IS Star Trek!
Oh Shit...I just read the comments, it IS George Takei....old footage from an early failed project...Whoa, Jesus! You guys are Boss.

They could have released this as a Trek show back in the day and it would have awesome. Feels more like Trek than even TNG to me

It's amazing the old and new coming together for this...just like with Star Trek Continues. As a matter of fact, I recognize one of the voice overs as Todd Habercorn, who portrayed Spock in ST:Continues. Well done, all!!

Glad you were able to finally finish this! Though It's too bad that Paramount fanfilm rules didn't let you do more with it.
Glad to see my great-great-great grandson made "Captain"! I always wanted him to go into Starfleet! Congratulations, "Captain Frame"!

Sincere congratulations! Thank you to all of you amazing fan film makers - past and present - who pulled together to bring this full circle to finally be enjoyed. I've followed this for a while and am a bit mind blown to finally enjoy it. I'm dying to hear how our Uncle George Takei feels knowing fans finally got to see this?

I never liked any fan-created versions of Star Trek. THIS BREAKS THAT MOLD. Well-done, each and every one of you. Outstanding! This completely captures the flavor of TOS. I am amazed, appreciative and a Permanent Fan. You all did a fantastic job on this. Really. Hats off to you! I Cannot say enough good things about this, at every level of production--acting, costuming, set creation, CGI, there is NOTHING I dislike about this, and I am a genuine snob about Star Trek, the original series. This gave me more enjoyment than the last entire year of movie releases. Live long and prosper! This could not have been cooler at Absolute Zero. No kidding. Thank you So Much. Damn. I am sharing
this every chance I ever get.

Thank you for the kind words. Our major regret was not releasing it sooner. But like a fine wine we're happy to uncork it with like minded TOS aficionados. And while we started this at a time when there was no internet or CGI, we were fortunate to have John and his team pick up the slack years later; and add the needed bookend to what is essentially a passion project salute to the great bird of the galaxy...

Great job! I enjoyed it. Very interesting design of the Yorktown - Phase 2 refit with round (but different) nacelles.
