- Concord was a highly anticipated live service title coming from PlayStation and Firewalk Studios but, now that we've seen it and know what it is - it just looks like an unnecessary risk. The Hero shooter genre is not only oversaturated but may be reaching the end of its peak in popularity.
Concord is an upcoming first-person hero shooter game developed by Firewalk Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5 and Windows.

Overwatch 1 was pay to play. That didn't stop the game from blowing up. I'm not sure if Concord will have the star power like OW, but who knows until it's out

While I understand the frustration of Concord's reveal, I'm also annoyed.
The term "clone" can be very reductionist. What is wrong with inspiration? We are now in a situation where there is little competition.
As an example. Back in the day, GTA had a few quality open world crime competitors in True Crime, Sleeping Dogs, Saints Row (before they got scared and turned goofy), even Mercenaries. Now there next to nothing. Even COD had a few similar competitors like Medal of Honor.
My point is that many gamers are being very gate keepy, and mocking games before ever really giving them a chance to compete. COD and Overwatch truly require competition. As we see, Acti-Blizz's complacency and greed shine through with minimal competition.
But, I'd much rather have see the return of SOCOM. As there are no tactical 3rd person shooters on console right now.

Then everything should be considered a trend chase. Cause by that logic there should be one to two games of the same genre otherwise your chasing trends.
Chasing a trend can also bring out some great games. The hero shooter only gets shitted on because of the connection to bad live service games.
I don't disagree, brother. I was just speaking to a different issue within the Concord backlash. It feels like if it isn't GTA, COD, Overwatch or some other well established IP, they are the "at home" versions and are destined to be shunned. It sucks.

@@ReforgeGamingOverwatch isnt even being showcased at Microsoft's showcases, its pedaling recolors of ow1 skins for full price, and not just a few, I think someone did the math and it's over 50% of the skins in their last 3 seasons were recolors.
That game is dying for competition, the devs have bascially just given up because they know they got the overwatch fans by the balls.
You're comparing overwatch, a greedy memed game that's died like 3 separate times, to fortnite as well, fortnite isnt inna bad spot and never really has been to my knowledge while overwatch abandoned its community for 3 years, than came back only to lie about pve and give an even worse version of the game to people and you dont think that's deserving of competition? The games the only fps to ever win goty, and than they proceeded to be the most mismanaged game in the history of gaming, if I had the money to hire other devs for my own project, as I am a game dev, I would have made an overwatch competitor too because it's clearly untapped potential, it's the only game that could spit in its communities faces that many times and still have a playerbase, now imagine if someone could actually treat that playerbase right, they could potentially take over the gaming industry.
I mean even destiny 2 has the decency to give their playerbase a bone every now again like they just did with final shape, overwatch is just a flat line of disappointment, and we actually use it as an example of what not to do in game development now, and when you become a lesson inna study, you either did something great or you royally fked up and I'm gonna let you guess which context overwatch gets brought up in 😂

Whether or not this game finds an audience remains to be seen, the multiplayer space is just too volatile even for games that are really good. But the amount of vitriol people online have for this game after one trailer is pretty ridiculous. People said Helldivers would be a failure too so we'll just have to wait and see.

I’ve got over 200 games in my backlog, so I’m actually really hyped that this looks like a game that I’m not at all hyped for!

Too much competition for Concord to be trying to go this route. They should take note, of what happened to Gigantic a few months ago.
@@laughingnotlookingI could be wrong as I haven't looked into gigantic much but from what i seen, it seemed more like it was in competition with smite 2 and other games like that, overwatch actually has very little competition when you look into it.
Theres alot more to a game like overwatch than I think people are giving credit for as it has premade kits, unlike apex or many of these other "overwatch clones" since when you have premade kits you can really go to town on said kits, take Reinhardt for example, how would you create him in apex? Hes a classic mmorpg tank that's playable in first person and if you allowed for him to change his hammer out for a shotgun or sniper than you cant have the rest of the kit be so filled with personality.
So to trully compete with overwatch you need those premade kits and if you look at the market, what other games have those premade kits inna fps environment? Non actually have that so contrary to what many are saying, concord is competing with only overwatch, and maybe paladins but I dont even think people know that game exists anymore 😂
I have my doubts of this game getting it's legs and hitting the ground running. I have been wrong before though we shall see.

@@stripedrajang3571 there’s a difference between halo and call of duty. The difference in overwatch and paladins is negligible.

Ive played shooters for over 20 years, i got burned out them, u will too.
They mixed up all the genres so what is thr problem? They are trying to pull gamers from each of those games. I'm interested in playing it.(Overwatch gamer)
I am excited for this game. Lets see if its good or not and how good they are with content, gameplay variety and gamemodes I think that could determine the future of this game. Overwatch 2 is overwatch one with a 5v5 instead of a 6v6 content such as maps and heroes come at a snails pace game modes are very repetitive and the balancing is horrendous yet the game still has a good player base.
It's not as big a risk as you think.
There are 6 genres that remain incredibly popular in the GAAS space. One of those genres is team based PvP. Another one is co-op shooter. Helldivers 2 and Concord are safe bets based on what gamers actually play. PlayStation is just filling those 6 genre with high quality, high effort games of their own.

@@bigbox1431 Let me draw comparison to the Marvel movies. When they first came out, everybody loved them. But their movies are now flopping because they're all too formulaic and cold, even with huge budgets.
Concord is the same phenomena but in gaming. Oversaturation is a very real thing.

The difference is that HD2 wasn’t actively hated leading up to that last trailer, people just ignored it like it was a “nothing burger”. Meanwhile people actively despise Concord for various reasons.
If this game wanted to stand out, it should've shown what separates it from the rest as well not in the same State of Play that announces a licenses IP that looked identical in Marvel Rivals wild to me they would both shoot themselves.
I’d at least consider touching it if it was f2p. But with it being a game that we’d have to pay anywhere from 40 to 70 dollars for makes it an immediate no.

I was curious about Concord until I saw it was PVP. It should have been PVE. At least have a PVE mode. This should have been an extraction shooter

Sadly, this game doesn't look bad, but it's not going to make a dent in the genre. These publishers and studios need to realize the market is already waaaaaaay oversaturated and weekly cutscenes aren't enough to make a game stand out.

Honestly the way they promoted it does just seem like just another overwatch clone and one you have to pay for. However the weekly story thing could be something if it a single player experience and not just 1 cutscene then back to the grind. I really hope they show more at summer game fest.

If were being honest value have show they doesn't care about TeamFortress 2 since it doesn't make as much money as CS lotto, AVBK has been burning though their goodwill faster then game pass burns though sales. Most of the live serve multiplayer games have very established audience that are will to be abused and taken advantage of to not end, and Concord is asking $40 over the FTP on PC/PS5 a more restricted market.
If we ignore that standard internet grandstanding and temper tantrums over the most minor of things, it a product with a high cost of entry with a more restricted market looking to compete for the attention of addicts that can't stop sticking that dirty needle in their arm. Not the kind of environment that's very welcoming to anything that not already in that dirty needle.
Yeah players are not gonna care about weekly cinematics. Only a small portion of Overwatch fans care about the story
All those games you brought up I definitely indeed battle Royale games and was chasing some type of battle Royale hype with the market being flooded with a whole bunch of battle Royale and gave players an option to choose which ones they like, regardless if they died or not how many 5v5 shooters we have besides overwatch and Apex legends doesn’t count because that’s a battle Royale Apex legends came out of nowhere and just dropped and look at the success that it has so you mean to tell me that since Apex was chasing the battle Royale craze that they were going to fail and be dead on arrival because it doesn’t seem like that so I don’t get wise when it comes to Concord it would be the only other shooter that would probably even remotely compete with overwatch because those two games actually have the same type of formula versus a hero shooter battle Royale so for people saying that they’re chasing a trend and copying overwatch overwatch is literally the only really successful 5 V5 shooter so no that of game is definitely not overpopulated and is very much needed especially for people that enjoy these type of games. And oh my God forbidden a game for having cinematics and one a story if that’s the case then we should just hate every game that’s ever been created see in July when the game comes out lol

And they play overwatch because originally the game really wasnt that shooter oriented but now the entire support role is doninated by hitscan and flanks 😂
what happened to lucio and mercy heros where your goal was to actually provide some great ultity to the fight like speed or dmg boost with more evasive playstyles to stay alive, like they need heros to defend themselves which is why moira, ana and zen are great but now you have actual cod characters with support abilities like bap illari or even kiri who is just genji but with a immortality and heals slapped on.
So all you would need to do is have a nice colorful world with an even softer emphasis on guns than overwatch had, and refine the formula further since thats the side of the genre thats neglected, making one thats first person but leans way more moba with magic, bows and melee having a much bigger presence would net a company a prettt penny rn i think.
i much prefer making my own toon over premade dev BS.... & im not asking for much i dont need sliders just let me pick my body hair face and stuff

This isn't really a risk. Have you seen the dislikes in the trailer on RUclips. Even if it is the best hero shooter ever and judging by the trailer I don't think so, it will still fail. the reputation of this game is just too bad. Combine that with the fact that people are tired of hero shooters, I don't think anyone will play this

I don't get it at all , is like them people are saying, never make another souls like, another fighting game they are all the same, never make another battle royale, never ake another paladins or overwatch style game, i use to dream about a marvel or dc games with Paladins or overwatch style, marvel rivals is a dream for me, i don't get it , if the game is bad ok , he is bad but telling a game is bad without nobody trying it, this is annoying. Over-saturation, man. It looks cool, looks like Guardians of the Galaxy: The FPS. However, have zero interest in a PvP-only game. I imagine people will feel the Destiny magic if the mechanics feel like an even faster Destiny. Sony should remember to innovate, not just touch every genre for the sake of it. If you’re gonna take a risk, take a risk in redefining the genre, maybe? If you’re gonna make a game like AssCreed… it should be Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon. If you’re gonna make a game like Overwatch, I imagine it has to be good enough for people to move away from the time and friends list they’ve built into that game. And worth the toxicity of a PvP team-shooters.
