Yondu is fun but he looks like they just spraypainted the actor in blue and stuck a lightbulb/boomerang on his forehead. It's low effort and kind of dumb, but he owns it and makes it works great with his character

It's probably the least of its problems but I thought it was weird that the title of the game is Concord and not Free Gunners. They kept saying Free Gunners during the gameplay part and I think it's a bit catchier sounding than Concord. The title and logo they're going with would look more at home on a slide showing development tools like Blender and Unreal Engine than it does alongside other games.

It doesn't matter when neither of those games would sell enough to make it worth it. It's cool to want smaller games, but those games don't light the world on fire either at this stage.

I feel like I'm in a time loop. Like, haven't we been here before? Every publisher invests in hero shooters >> everyone sees that for the terrible idea that it is >> the games come out and are, in fact, as unsuccessful as expected >> publishers wonder what went wrong. @@acuity1980no no, you're getting your corporate bs time loops mixed up. The one you reference was finally broken by Fortnite's unwavering dominance. Many clones were made but they died and one remains. The hero shooter had its own loop with Overwatch with prompting Battleborn, Lawbreakers, etc etc and they all died with own one remaining. The new loop begins because Blizzard then promptly through themselves off the cliff giving rise to a new loop of horseshit clones to try and take the throne.

It takes years to makes these games, and so this title (like others) were most likely green-lit as early as 2018. As soon as Sony invested the money back then and put the team together, that was it. Either follow thru or cancel and loose all that money...... they apparently did not feel brave enough to pull a Square Enix and squash deep into development projects over marketability. I would not be surprised if Sony - and even the people involved in making the game - know this turd isn't going to flush, but they are going to grin and eject this thing to a overstated market anyway. It _IS_ Sony after-all.... and you might remember they did something similar with Drawn2Death (David Jaffes' hero-shooter service title). This is like that, or a 2K Battleborn situation all over again: where they decided to release something they had already planned bon day one was not going to be supported. 🤷♂

1. Budget and plan for a game/trend thats popular at the time of planning

5. Trend is no longer trendy or completely out of reach to compete in that environment

Over and over. Trend followers instead artists and trailblazers. Corporate risk management without any long term risk assessment to see the obvious.
I’m still shocked that they spent so much time in Concord in the middle of a State of Play. I think it would’ve performed much better in its own reveal presentation.

I'll never get that. "This is just a multiplayer game, but imagine if all these characters were doing all this fun and interesting stuff outside the game!" "Can I see that?" "No, just imagine". I guess Concord is trying to somewhat address this with the weekly crunch-enabled cinematics planned, but it's still mostly the same thing. Without like a movie or a show or an actual story mode or something, I dont really understand how people actually get invested into these characters beyond their gameplay impact.

I was intrigued by Concord until they revealed it was yet another hero shooter. That Guardians of the Galaxy game was SO good and it was giving me the same vibes
same, the cinematic they played before the gameplay looked perfect for a single player game like Guardians of the Galaxy. It's pretty insane that its just another hero shooter.

Showing two overwatch clones in the same showcase was a mistake.
Helldivers have its own identity. I am not into multiplayer games at all but I don't think there is any other multiplayer shooter like helldivers. That's why people liked it. But Concord really looks like generic Overwatch clone that tries to mimic same success with same formula. I don't think it will be as big as helldivers.
I think we should be real that while Helldivers 2 is a good game, it also got something of an unpredictable fad-based boost that it didn't necessarily earn through complete merit, either. And this is a huge problem for these live service games - it's not all some meritocracy, and there's not always a lot to learn about other successes because they didn't reach the mega success status simply because of the amazing things it was doing, but because it simply was in the right place in the right time to turn into a fad.
I don't really see the difference, Helldivers looks just as generic to me
Helldivers 2 benefitted from reduced price and a LOT of luck with the timing of the release. Helldivers is incredibly generic, with the only personality it has ripped from Starship Troopers.
Oh they are so going to give up on that weekly cinematic, SO quickly.

I work in post-pro, specifically I create ads for dealerships or reskin assets provided by OEMs.
I can 100% confirm the videos of cars in the "Jeep" game are Running Footage shot and provided by the OEMs themselves, not from like a smaller dealership or even car enthusiasts. That's INCREDIBLY BOLD considering all the security measures we have to take to obtain that footage.

Honestly when the CGI announcement trailer for concord came I was envisioning a multiplayer similar to the og battlefront 2. On the ground combat, jumping in a spaceship, dogfights and going to space in the same match. Now it looks like the spaceship will only be used for cutscenes, WHAT?!

I really liked the Guardians spirit in the CGI trailer, as I am a fan of Eidos´ GoG game, but I dont see anything of that vibe translating into the 5v5 gameplay unfortunately
I mean they should have dynamic voice lines during gameplay to a higher extent than Apex, which could work well if they’re actually smart

The trailer created the false illusion of an open world space bounty game, and we ended up with a 5 vs 5 overwatch guardians of the galaxy knock off.

IMO if Concord isn’t free to play, it’s DOA.
It's DOA even if it is. It could've gotten away with the bland gameplay if the characters had great designs and charisma, or vice versa. But both? Why would people ever play this over Overwatch 2, Apex, Valorant or even Paladins?

god Kyle I am so with you about Concord. for reference, Destiny 2 does do a “weekly vignette” like thing, the first seven weeks of every destiny season has a story “part” that is serial and continues week to week, so I feel like it is kind of similar to that. Obviously, not CG, sometimes we get in game cutscenes, usually it’s just you’re there in an area and watching characters talk, and then some variation of the seasonal activity between cutscenes. It works, and makes me excited to log into destiny in those first few weeks of a season for the story! Anyway, great episode as always

I think Concord’s chances to breakthrough the Hero Shooter market are slim. But what they showed (even if the character cinematics were generic) was super high quality. If the gameplay is rock solid then I think they will have a fighting chance. Overwatch has significantly wained in quality over the years and I sincerely doubt that the terrible leadership at Xbox is going to help not only get the game back to where it needs to be, but also help it move forward. They’re obviously trying really hard to make a quality product and I think we should all reserve judgement until we play the game for ourselves. Ultimately, I do not play multiplayer games because I have friends who do. I play games that appeal to me and this game actually interests me whereas Overwatch never has.
Concord looks fucking terrible. We have too many live service games, we don’t need anymore
