Love that she said that nature is trying to tell us not to eat foods that cannot survive/procreate without us, while conveniently forgetting that most farm animals would not survive in the wild either. Almost all food, even food they many consider natural, is domesticated beyond recognition and/or cooked (processed) in an unnatural way. So nature is telling us to starve?

I think for the most part food is confusing because people get sick, and no one seems to have a clear understanding as to why. I personally can't eat apples, I have some reactions to bananas (too much sugar I guess). Bad for you is relative. Was it because it was picked underripe and shipped halfway around the world, was it because it was sprayed with a pesticide that fucks with my body, can there be contaminants or heavy metals in fruit that's typically delivered to my region, was it that there are certain sugars my body doesn't digest well? Everyone has their unique chemistry and that changes over time as well. Maybe someone can eat pesticide laden apples with no consequence and others wind up with cancer. I just try to find people with similar experiences to mine and figure it out from there.

If you do, you might be able to consume small amounts over a period of time to build up tolerance. This will be more more difficult if the first time you tried bannas or apples if you ate a lot and it didn't sit well with you. It's no biggie, there has to be like 100000 edible plants out there, with multiple parts of most being edible. Just eat other things and introduce them slowly

A 55 yo man here. 35 +years natural bodybuilder and 30+ years MD. Love this channel and the way the host presents the data. Over the years I have tried all possible combinations of nutrition styles for building lean muscular body: Adkins, variations of carb proportion, eating or avoiding fruits, but never completely vegetarian or meat eating though.
For decades a have remained 165 LB very lean on 5’6” frame. I can easily go to single digits body fat, but it plummets my usually good Testosteron levels…
This is easily sustainable simply following my disciplined appetite and experienced food calories sense. All diets work if you sustain them. Stallone in his book said they all eventually stop working- I say: you just don’t notice how you stop adhering to them and cheat.
In recent years all the extremes in dieting are gone and not necessary. I eat everything, even party sweets here and there( interestingly- so does Stallone) . My appetite is a reliable guide of appropriate calories intake. Stepping on the scale every day is also an ‘idiot light’ to give you an immediate feedback and call for a correction.
Most people have no disconnect between the signal of needing to drink or go to the bathroom and the processes themselves. But their appetite and food satiety seem at odds with true nutritional needs, perhaps starting in childhood. They can be reset to match , but that requires diligent retraining. I know, I have done it. Nothing comes easy as promised by outside help-personal responsibility is the key.
I teach this message to my patients keeping prescribing meds at minimum : the lifestyle changes in many medical cases lead to spectacular improvement in health and longevity.
    Thank you again.

While hiking in Europe for 3 months earlier this year, I ate mostly Dates with coffee in the morning, then bought a bag of apples, golden matcha or green apples and ate those along my 20-50 km walks depending on my location. The apples were delicious and kept me hydrated, I never took water with me, just apples. Lost a lot of lean muscle tissue but got it all back along with some chubs while bulking and training in Thailand soon after. Anyways, I think I would have had a much worse experience if I ate bread with assorted deli meats and cheeses in terms of my digestion and nutritional needs.

    • @InsendoChavero

Some trails along Portugal, and Spain have water beds for those hiking, which almost always had algae and pollutants. This is mostly meant for horses, and the next town can be very far away. You eat an apple, and you get hydrated and a natural boost of energy vs some candy that’ll just make you feel hungry soon after. BREAD no matter how healthy it might be vs American loafs will be heavy on the stomach and dry your mouth out in heated weather. I also mentioned a digestive preference, the apples and dates would not have me feeling heavy or bound up while walking over large amounts of incline and declines, on top of the gear I was carrying. If done correctly you can easily ration a bag of apples to last you the whole day, which in some cases was 10 hours of hiking.. I was doing this back to back nonstop for 3 months. The point I was trying to make is apples are excellent, even the ones you’d find hanging along trees in some sections of villages and farms, which were used to make cider.. these apples were green small and tart, definitely the kind that were not “tampered” with genetically. I ate those whenever I could pick them from the trees and never felt sickly.

Not sure what age 'ancestral' would be, but hunter gathers had good age ranges, it wasn't 30. The mean (average) is low compared to today because of the high death rate in childbirth; combined with the death rate for men in the late 20's and early 30's which also skews this. If a man made it past their early 30's, the chances were good he would live a long life.
