Super Interesting. Many thanks for sharing Layne. I guess that old saying: “there is a sucker born everyday” still holds true. Given that the formulation, as you pointed out, contains many contraindicated/not sinergestically effective, I am surpised that creatine was not thrown into the mix. It’s the only horse I personally bet on.
I'm pretty sure that berberine being an AMPK activator also implies it may act as an mTOR inhibitor, or at least to my knowledge most things that are AMPK activators do that as well. This wouldn't make it conducive for MPS. There's a study showing lower protein synthesis in rats too.

I see a benefit here for not only metabolic syndrome and people who are insulin insensitive, but for people in an energy deficit. People on an energy deficit will either struggle with maintaining 1g/lb of protein a day or struggle with carb intake. It seems glucose disposal might be beneficial in these people who might not have topped off glycogen stores due to low energy intake. Let's say youre in a deficit and you take this product and hypothetically you have more glycogen within your muscle. The idea might be that because your muscles gave more glycogen at their disposal, you will be able to increase power (since it is fast twitch muscle fibers which are more glucogen demanding), which may lead to more muscle protein synthesis, which may lead to more hypertrophy. But that is jumping through quite a lot of hoops. We need at least a pilot cohort or something to even entertain this idea. I. The end a little bit more glycogen probably wont amount to much. Just a hypothesis!
ok I don't want to be super jacked I am more like a runner than bodybuilder can I eat like half recommended protein ? I mean who even has protein deficiency ? There is starvation from not eating enough calories but many people around the world eat like half "oficially recommended" protein and they are fine and slim like people in Asia, Africa etc. I don't want to eat meat in every meal to meet protein goal and have skyrocketing cholesterol. I eat meat like 2 times a week and I fart after beans so I don't eat legumes often and I probably don't get "enough" protein but I am fine. What is medical term for protein deficiency and give me studies about this topic. Shit doesn't exist. People in rural Asia would be dead by the age of 40 because their high carb diet is very low protein. Human milk has very little protein too. I get that protein is important for bodybuilders but what about normal people ? There are diets like 80/10/10 80% carbs 10% protein 10% fat and almost everyone who actually follow this diet is slim. Whereas high protein promoters like Atkins were overweight. Many keto people are also overweight unless they starving themselves.
Where are you getting the data for your claims? Like that people in Asia or Africa eat half the recommended protein and are fine? Why should your cholesterol be skyrocketing just because you eat a lot of protein? That's not how it works. Those who actually follow the 10 percent protein diet are slim. Yeah, but that's just the point: The diet is hard to actually follow because it's so unsatiating. Atkins didn't get fat because of protein but because of too many calories. You can get fat on low protein just fine. And starving yourself isn't necessary in order to not be obese. You just need to be in a small calorie deficit for a sufficiently long time span. Human milk is for 6 or 7 pound light mini humans, aka babies. Are you a baby? Protein needs are different for differently active people. 0.8 grams per kg is for couch potatoes. Bodybuilders or other athletes have higher needs, roughly double the amount - and even more in extreme situations. If you're doing a bit of gym and jogging, maybe increase protein somewhat, like 1.3 grams or something.
No doctor has ever said you are eating too much protein and that's why you are sick. Have you tried a moderation diet, like no macro high or low. Like 25% protein 35% fat, 40% carbohydrate (if shredding 30% protein, 35% fat, 35% carbohydrate). Focussing on getting your HDL/apoa1 up and decreasing triglyceride. If you can do that your LDL/apob should go down. Like 25% of your fats should be saturated and if you think you are eating too much saturated fat, by increasing the other fats that will decrease the percentage of saturated fat you are eating, same with omega 6.
I would recommend a minimum of 120g protein and maximum of 1g/lbs of protein. More isn’t unhealthy just expensive. - At 150 lbs I’m consuming 0.8g/lbs of protein around 130g protein. That works for me as a martial artist. Most of us rely on carbs to train for 3h/day. I don’t see any keto people running marathons in Sweden.
