  • This dahlia tour includes all the Pompom or Ball dahlias in bloom in my garden in August 2022.
I’ll show you the differences between each, comparing colour, height, and flower size, in the hope it’ll help you select the dahlia varieties that you’d like in your gardens.
We’ve had a slow start this year due to the unprecedented heat wave and lack of rainfall, not to mention that the deer ate every single one of my young plants back in June, and consequently, they’ve had to make a supreme effort to grow back. Thank goodness nature knows how to combat pesky pests! 🤣
💚I will only ever recommend products that I use regularly and believe to be good value💚

Very beautiful video, really liked moor place and cornel brons. LOVE upclose video, next to one another to compare. Do this every time please.
I know some people are raving about Jowey Winnie, but, to me, it's just pink. Everyone has their own taste. Like Peaches are so popular, but I wouldn't grow it. I would definitely like to see upclose also Jowey Nicky, Sylvia and Brown sugar. Thank you so much for your video🙏🏻🙏🏻

Which of your dahlias, ball or otherwise, have you found to be the most floriferous, AND which have quite attractive foliage? I'm also in the South East and am just starting in dahlias. I've found that HS Wink has been superb, and the Bishops are good too. But I'm not so keen on the decoratives like Labrynth AGM as the leaves are boring and you don't get that many flowers on a plant at the same time, even when stopped early in the season. So your recommendations over general garden worthiness rather than just flower form would be appreciated.

Hi Laurel, I love Burlesca, both for the colour and because it's nice and tall with loads of blooms. Karma Choc has loads of flowers too but they are quite a dark red. the foliage is dark too, so not to everyones taste. I like Blue bayou and Flooroor - both good bloomers and not too short. I also love Jowie Winnie - ever popular but with good reason. If I had to pick just 1 dahlia - it would be Wizard of Oz. But...oh there are so many I love. I also love Sascha - large open blooms with curly petals. Bright Eyes keeps blooming for the longest time and really is a lovely pop of colour, looking great with Cosmos too. If you're looking for a dusky flower - Great Silence hits the spot and I've had soooo many blooms this year. Maya was one of the first to bloom and is still going strong - shorter than others but I wouldn't be without it. I also love Creme de Cassis but I don't have any in my garden this year (lost them to rot in storage). Sorry the answer is so long - it's the impossible question for a Dalia lover!!! Do take a look at my other dahlia videos for more inspiration. 🌸

@@cottoverdi I love your love and enthusiasm for dahlias, and I share it, too.
It's my first year ever of planting (and in reality, even seeing) dahlias. I'm smitten by them.
I've got crémé de Cassis in one of those tall, narrow, tapering, greyish, plastic pots, and the rest (Cornel Brons, Jowey Mirella, Café au Lait, Jocondo (which was wrongly sent to me as Emory Paul), Belle of Barmera, Nuit d'Été (again, wrongly labeled as Arabian Night) and Star Elite, in 16" x 14" plastic pots, that I placed below the surface of the soil, hoping they don't get too cold, too fast, here, in Scotland. Jowey Mirella hasn't yet flowered and Café au Lait is too snobbish to flower with the rest of the dinner plates. It gave the first wave of three blooms and it's not bothered to work on pushing out any more.
Anyway, I'm so thrilled that RUclips brought your channel to me.
All the best and I am looking forward to seeing more of your content.
warm regards from a rudimentary gardener in Glasgow.

It sounds like you have a fantastic collection there - some excellent varieties that will bring so much colour to your garden. My Cafe au Lait is flowering badly and in fact looks a little sick. I will leave it be for now but will make sure to check the tuber really well for disease when I pull it up. Not sure about the plastic pot idea - let me know how it works because it sounds interesting. 💚

Hi Bertha, thank you. We are in UK - South Buckinghamshire. It's equivalent to Zone 8. We had a very slow start this year because the deer ate all my dahlias but fortunately, most of them have bounced back. I have about 3 that have not recovered at all and probably 6-10 that still haven't bloomed. It could also be due to the heatwaves we've had because dahlias don't like it when it's too hot. Good luck with yours. 😁
