  • Had a great day of nymphing with a bunch of fish caught for a winter day. Most fish were caught on the stonefly with a few exceptions. Ended up with a nice 18" brown trout towards the end of the day which made the trip complete.

      Thanks Owen! haha They aren't the best "all around" or hybrid rods, but if you plan on just nymphing and know the water you're fishing is suited to euro nymphing then you're going to love it. Despite that they can be used quite well for all around stuff and I use one of my 3 euro rods probably 80% of the time.

    That was a great day of fishing there ...its great you have choices like that close to you. Btw what was the water temp ? I find 40 to the mark for me. 36 to 40 and its pretty tough. Although a sunny day this time of year helps alot. Great looking rivet

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching! I wouldn't say close. I often travel 1 1/2 - 3 hours to fish. haha
      I didn't take a temp, but I'm guessing somewhere around 33-35, maybe 36. There was ice higher up on the stream so it had to be on the cooler end I imagine.

    What kind of waders do ya have? Any recommendations in the $150 to $300 range?

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  3 года назад

      If that's your range I would go with the Simms Freestone waders. I've owned 2 pair over the course of 3 1/2 years and I've fished A LOT. They hold up, just make sure to put them in front of a fan after each outing. Don't want bacteria to grow and then cause leaks.

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  3 года назад

      You're welcome! Thanks for watching. I didn't take a temp, but my guess was 33-35 because there was ice further up on this stream.

    • @c11235
      @c11235 3 года назад +1

      Oof that’s cold. But similar to the freestone streams around where I live this time of year. And makes sense based on the ice. But still I’m kinda surprised how many players you found in those runs, the water was faster than I would have thought. I clearly have more to learn! Thanks again

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I was kind of surprised too. I've had days like that in the winter before, but it's not too often that that happens. The water temp could have been higher. I have no idea what it was, that is just my guess. Usually I'll fish runs in the winter when the sun is out.

    What is your rod size and weight.?
    Fly line type and leader set up.?
    Is that ur go to set up thru the year ?
    Or do u change out in the height of the spring hatches ?

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  3 года назад +1

      My rod here is a 4wt 10'6" with backing that goes to 20lb Amnesia to a tippet ring and then to the tippet. No fly line being used. In this video here I explain my setup ruclips.net/video/MWQlFI-btDk/видео.html
      I use this for nymphing and streamers year round and carry a reel with fly line for dries in the spring in case I want to cast some dries.

    • @Brownsylvania
      @Brownsylvania  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! Maybe like very big hellgrammites or something. I think you'd be better off fishing bait fish imitations. I've only caught one smallmouth bass on a nymph ever and it was a stonefly nymph.
