Fun Fact: At it's height, the British Empire occupied one third of the world's landmass, and was present in every time-zone across the globe. At this rate, in sixth months, the same will be said of Laith's hair.
Another fun fact, this is still true today if you count british overseas territories and crown dependencies. You can go as far east as the British Indian Ocean territories and as far west as the Pitcairn Islands. That's UTC- 8 to UTC+6. Not much of an empire but the sun is yet to set on it.
33:51 They raised enough troops during the war that their prestige increased. This increased their ranking until they could no longer be the target of a protectorate wargoal. The wargoal evaporated at this point.
@@TheSocialStreamers Having it automatically turn into a Humiliate wargoal ought to be the default in these cases IMO. And a pop-up telling the player when a wargoal evaporates, that is a must. Advanced version: pop-up that lets you pick a new wargoal from a short list? with extra Infamy compared to having used that new wargoal from the get-go? I like these kinds of videos as someone who recently got into Victoria 3. I find watching someone explain their thought process and strategies helps me get a better grasp on the mechanics. Tutorials are helpful for the theory of paradox games, but seeing it in practice is incredibly useful.
Laith I went through this exact same pain as I tried a world conquest last month. Ionian islands trucial states and miskito kingdom had revolts throughout the entire game no matter what status they were and how well they were doing. I suggest annexing those three as soon as possible to avoid the time waste as it'll drive you mad.Another point you are the one who has to federate canada and australia. Get yor relations with them super high and you can federate one state at a time till it's done.
laith never fails to inspire me and give me will to live another day, like how the morrocan GDP-check does for him. Life, tea and pure conquest does it for both of us though. Oh, and he also never fails to spread my cheeks and blow it all over the screen.
I'm hoping that one day someone will actually do a WC without starting as one of the main powers and goes from a small nation to a grand conqueror. This is, most obviously, a call out. A challange to pull off something more interesting than other people who did World Conquest. Since it'd be in spirit of the challange, maybe a Tunis WC?
I've done that before as Byzantium, however that was like a year ago, so the war system was quite different. Not to sure if its possible with the current war system.
problem is, its just impossible in the 100 years the game lasts for, between native uprisings, subject revolts, and separatists movements wasting ur time and how long fighting even medium size powers takes because of how jank and bullshit naval battles are, combined with the fact that the game starts to crawl along even when u are 30 years from the end date its just impossible. even a world conquest as a great power is incredibly tedious and i have seen anyone actually go thru with it till its done
World conquest in this game is ridiculously hard because of the infamy system. If your infamy gets too high the great powers dog pile you and undo any recent conquest. The only way to get around this is to massively out power the other major powers combined either by building yourself up to be stronger than all of them combined or like in this video, cutting them all down so they’re far weaker than you, both of which are extremely hard to do if you’re not already in a very powerful start.
Main issue with that is how diplomatic plays work. It’s stupid, but the main limiting factor to a WC is the fact you have to do one play at a time, even if it’s a native uprising or your puppet has a tiny revolt. It means that if you do what I’m doing and have a network of puppets, you are less likely to have people side against you but the window for actually doing anything gets smaller each time.
The intro had me deceased, turning the British Museum into the Bank of England (Poor Susan). Also love that you spread the Tea Empire across the World. Hope you got some, we dont want your wrath without your Yorkshire Tea. 😄 Lets see what you do for Part 2.
Fun fact about america in this game staying a great power. I played as Spain once and just kept liberating countries and taking away their states every few years and somehow they still kept in the top 5 great powers even after being denied access to the sea and becoming completely landlocked.
This game looks like it would be a lot less frustrating if they implemented an EUIV style military interface. The fact that your army can literally be like, I'm not going there...even after you tell them to is crazy.
He had too few generals assigned so what ended up happening is that they were all busy defending, he had like 1 or 2 generals per army and only 3 armies along a front that spanned dozens of states.
Actually should be a mix of Victoria 2 and March of The Eagles but Paradox are stubbornly refusing the acknowledge that their constant drive to simplify everything makes the games worse
For anyone interested Al Muqaddimah made a great video talking about the diamond laith referenced. He goes through the history and why he doesn’t care about the British having it. He doesn’t consider it a stolen relic of India but concludes that other relics like the body of a great Islamic prophet has no excuse being in Britain.
this is so good havent been watching u for a while, got myself some tea and biscuits to enjoy 4 am watching youtube and this video came up, couldnt be a better timing init
Laith as a GP like Great Britain, infamy really is just a score, to see how well you're doing. If you haven't maxed out on infamy, then you're not doing it right.
Around 17:26 I was like damn I still dont get how fights work in that game, so I was sort of reaasured seeing Laith didnt know what was going on either.
I played by first game of vic 3 today. I picked switzerland. I list a war against baden in the first year. Ten years later I already had to declare bankruptcy. I can only pray for switzerland to survive.
You can actually do something about hanover. The game has coded it so it breaks the personal union, not anything else so if you decrease their autonomy to a puppet then you keep them.
Hey Laith if you reduce hanovers autonomy at the start of the campaign, you keep them as a dominion even after the king of england die. Keep up the good work. always looking forward to your Victoria 3 videos :-D
A tip for prestige. If you rip out the capital from countries like Egypt or the ottoman they just fall apart because it's their industrial heart and where all their gov is. It also boost your government by adding sometime up to 20 buildings of gov and universities while your enemies die down to regional power making it prime for protectorate game
Britain is single handedly lowering every standard of the world; life expectancy, GDP, literacy. They are a half step away from being able to cosplay Jan Mayan for eu4, just setting the world back a few hundred years.
btw laith food industries have a really poor productivity per construction so always import food bc it will encourage the AI to build it in foreign countries which kinda fucks them over
What I'll find interesting in the end will be migration. Because if you own both the US and New Africa, wouldn't all Afro-Americans migrate to New Africa?
Great video! I would have loved for you to deal with eco/laws etc in more detail rather than skipping it, the game might have gone a lot further! Much love though
Watching those 8 subject's with reduce autonomy you kept glossing over hurt my soul. You can keep Hanover forever when you reduce their autonomy and begin to take over all of Germany you can basically make it a European colony. .
I really wish I liked this game... I put in ~150 hours six months ago and got frustrated at all the little design decisions that make the game worse. When I came back recently, it was different, but not really any better. Maybe I should sit down and actually learn Vic2 on my next holiday.

Hanover will always accept the "reduce autonomy" play at game start. So if you do it before Victoria comes into power you will keep them.
Laith you can't annex Hanover straight away but you can reduce their autonomy and keep them as a subject after Victoria is crowned
Lot of people forget, but you have to send your fleet to an HQ to upgrade the ships

You can prevent Hanovers independence at game start by doing a reduce autonomy play which they will always accept and then they don’t go free
Laith saving the environment, making use of the waste heat from his computer, while also conquering the world - aspirational!
You only needed to reduce autonomy of Hanover to keep it as a subject. It's No.1 thing to do as GB.
if you reduce hanover's autonomy they stay a subject

Love how you managed to create an EU4 vassal swarm in Vic3
For some reason reducing autonomy of hanover would cause the brits to never lose it when Q Victoria takes the throne.
I played by first game of vic 3 today. I picked switzerland. I list a war against baden in the first year. Ten years later I already had to declare bankruptcy. I can only pray for switzerland to survive.
The ironclad issue is because your fleets were never docked. If you dock your fleets they’ll slowly switch out to the newer ships
