Speeds are one thing, but 1 main key factor you neglected to mention is, If you want speed you have to pay for it, So cost per month per term just to get a download a bit quicker, is not what everyone can afford, I have seen some FTTP packages of a contract length of 18 Mths, stating £80.00/Mth (offer of £40.00 for the first 6 Mths to get you to sign). So £40.00 x 6 + £80.00 x 12 = £1,200.00, just for on average 800Mps, excluding delivery and set up costs, and potential in contract price increase. Plus for FTTP with one provider you also lose your landline number *(correct at time of posting comment).

FTTP still goes to the cabinet and then to your property. If you want actual direct to the premises, this would be a leased line which by passes the cabinet and is uncontended. Also if you want symmetrical upload and download speeds.

No 1Gb/s package should cost near £80/month, most I’ve seen is ~£60, you can easily get them for much cheaper
Here we can only have 4G, closest fiber is 10km away. At my mom's place we get like 60-70 mbit/s down max, at my dad's place however we get 150-240 mbit/s which is insane for 4G, but still not fiber.
i have 1gbp coming in the the property, any unifi products u recommend to maintain that sort of speeds
DSL only up to 20 Mbps? I'm currently running 100Mbps on DSL and can get up to 250 Mbps when bonding two lines together.
DSL is not the same as ADSL, nor the same as VDSL.
Funny i have 1G up and down. In Denmark.. It´s been like this for over 5 years at my home. :)
same in sweden
I get 900 Down and 900 Up through Community Fibre.
Amazing
FTTP still goes to the cabinet and then to your property. If you want actual direct to the premises, this would be a leased line which by passes the cabinet and is uncontended. Also if you want symmetrical upload and download speeds.
warzone isn't 22GB LUL? not the entire game at-least.
Yeah his videos are full of lies
bruh i have 3MBps download and 9 upload and I dont know hoe to fix this
Why don’t you have 1gbit upload with fttp? Here The Netherlands we have current max 1 up 1 down with fttp
It depends on providers, we do have providers that provide symmetric bands but its not really needed tbh
ftth in the UK is years behind Europe. infrastructure is poor and has high prices. For example in Poland Orange offers in the whole country 1Gb down 300MB up for 80pln~15GBP per month. In some cities, INEA offer 10GB up/down to the home for 99.99PLN~ 20GBP per month. I pay in the UK for FTTH OFNL 360/76 for 44GBP extremely expensive...
BT and virgin hold so much power here
The BT GPON network can actually support speeds of 2.5gbps down. But they don’t offer it out yet. 900mbps is plenty for a standard residential customer. As the needs grown then the infrastructure is already in place to support it :)
@@idrewski6402 GPON max speed is 2.488 Gb/s down and 1.244 Gb/s You won't see that speed in BT;) they don't even offer full 1gbps....just 900mb and not everywhere in the UK.
@@jacek1983polska packages will get increased eventually. The network is designed to be future proof. They would be silly to push out more than needed until it’s really needed.
I on zen via cityfibre in the UK and getting 900 down 900 up, so I'm not sure you're is the beat one you can get in the uk ... but its not all about speed check the quality of your line, virgin is one of the worst for that
FTTC speeds depends on the technology behind the cube, if there is used VDSL+ e.g. you can expect speeds up to 250 Mbit/s down (or even more, if there is enauge overhead)
As well as the different cabled ways to get broadband to a property, we also have 5G. I live in a city and can get around 700Mbps down and 50Mbps up on 5G broadband. Added bonus is the low cost (just £21 a month with Three)
I have 1G up and down ziply fiber in WA,USA. They also offer 2.5 and 5g for residential you will pay $120 and $160 usd
community fibre 3GB down 3GB up running sweet in the uk.
I currently have 2000mbps up and down in the uk
Where abouts?
i have full fiber and get 900up and 900 down
Alex.........ah the days of shotgunning 2x 56kbps US Robotics Courier modems into one link are well behind us now! That was the best dial up modems I ever owned!
I've heard rumours of 2.4 gig by 2030 and possibly 10 gig by 2040, serious speeds coming in the UK for sure! 🔥🔥🔥
lol we already have 10Gbps internet speed here in sweden
2.5gig coming end of this year. 10gig coming by 2025
In Spain we use xgspon, 10Gbps. If you want send over the air, you can use 2 or 3 xpic radio PtP.
If you have fibre to the home you should get symmetrical speeds
Only if you pay for it
@@idrewski6402 where I live there is no option to pay less and get slower upload
hi, my service provider have specific router which provide telephone,tv and internet,my question is, can we clone the setting on another modem router
yes
@@matthewgilbride8212 well no, it depends, you might have to use your provided box for TV and telephone, and then send the internet connection from that box to your own new router
@@beningledew2002 thats why they specified modem router. there are exceptions but this is what I do for work and the only one I have issues with are virgin (recently got asked to do it with starlink but thats impractical)
The "TRUTH" about DSL is it stands for "Digital SLOW Line"🤓🤣
I have got 200mbps plan
Ont router but gets 250-260mbps when i sit in same room where router is placed
Internet is quite cheap in my nation
I've seen Community Fibre offering 3Gbps in Uk
Really good
You make a good point 😅 it also pains me knowing that so many providers in the UK offer faster upload connections aswell yet he doesn't acknowledge them and just says it will always be slower
i get between 0 and 1ms latency with speeds of 150/150 here in estonia atm
250 down .... 125up...and that is mid range package in my Caribbean country ...I would expect UK to be wayyy better..lol
Netherlands we have 1000mbps also modem/router 2.4ghz 5.0ghz 6.0ghz wifi.
1 gB up and down here in California on fiber. You can get up to 3 gb from the cable provider.
is ur provider AT&T ?
@@vakarisdobrovolskas8508 yes
@@dhollenbach what’s google fiber like out there in USA California
I absolutely love your videos so much
I have 60mbps down and I can watch Netflix 4K without any issues. That’s all I need
GB/MB - gigabyte/megabyte, Gb/Mb - gigabit/megabit, it's not that hard, cmon
5:50 you either have an asymmetric or symmetric connection, saying up/down speeds are never the same is straight-up, not true
I think he might be confused about cable internet. I think Virgin medias top upload speed is 52meg, even on their Gigabit connection. On the subject of Virgin media, he advertised Virgin media cable, but then did the tests on full FTTP, almost like he was advertising for Virgin giving results from a BT fibre connection, very weird.
Question is just how much do you have to pay to get it as we have had three different broadband providers we had EE VODAFONE AND TALK TALK and non of them gave us the speeds we had been told we would get so I now have a 4G plus router and it's never let me down yet
Hi Alex, did you reinstall the 80" TV? The current one shown looks quite larger than the one you showed being set up when you did the new accent wall behind the TV.
BT in my area the entirety of warzone takes 5 days.
virgin 1gig customer here i get the same sometimes faster lol
Virgin gig1 service in my house is awful! Packet loss central for gaming. Had to cancel twice over few yrs and go back to sky at 50mb. 'Over utilisation' for 6 years now! With them lies saying fix dates that don't exist. Is there any way I can get fast Internet without having to go virgin or bt infrastructure? Like wireless or something?
wher i live im lucky to get 5 down yip u hurd right 5mb down on a good day i could cry seeing them speeds u get but agen thanks for a nother vid alex 😀
"30 is useless"
me: 30!!!! I GET 0.90 to 0.50 WHAT U TALKING ABOUT 30 IS LIKE A GODLY WI FI SPEED i have even gotten 0.04
I know, a bit harsh to call 15 Mbps unusable!
Well i have VDSL and i get 270mbps down and arround 45mbps up 1at 9ms ping. Wich is pretty fast for german standarts.
I'm with Plusnet and for some reason my upload is far greater than the downlaod speed. Can someone please explain this
Could you change the BT Fibre (ONT) Terminal box & BT Router with a 10G Single mode SFP module installed into a router port configured to your ISP to maximise the speed?
Nope, serialised you can get some programmable sfp sc but don't recommend it
Mate i need your help, im 22 and i stream but im in a dead zone, i get 20 down 3 up, i have the top broadband package to, im in UK plz
How much do you pay...and what package do you have and who's it with
Awesome informative video Alex
We have here ftth. I get 950-950 up. Fiber is always sync in the up and down
Vodafone?
Sorry I am from the Netherlands. But why do you dont have 900-900
Yes Vodafone bt
30 down is pretty much unusable? What a clown
Well,it depends on the usage of the connection
@@rekko_12 don't be ridiculous. 30 down is not unusable. It's a false statement which isnt helped by people like your self saying depends on the usage. With an attitude like that you could say the same about a 1 gig connection depending on the usage. This bloke has a large RUclips following, give them relevant, truthful information, not hyperbol for an over excited pubescent boy. Yes more is better, as is everything in life, but to say a household is unusable with 30 down is ridiculous.
5GHz band is just awesome. I use it all the time.
Hey thanks for the vid!!!!
Could u possible leave a link to the fibre terminal ur using or maybe even do a dedicated video for the different fibre terminals available 🤔
Cheers mate.
I've got ADSL 🙃. It's absolutely terrible.
Hey Alex, since following your networking videos I have ended up going with a full UniFi rack mount set up pretty similar to what you have. I’d be interested to see a follow up video with the speeds you get using your UniFi gear and how you optimise the AP’s to get the fastest WiFi speeds from them. I have the BT Full fibre 900/110 package
Which APs did you get? If you use a 80mhz channel for the 5Ghz band with a decent device you should get 400-600mbps depending on the device and interference.
