Can I beat Pokémon Platinum with nothing but a bunch of little wimpy babies using Hardcore Nuzlocke Rules?
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only hatch one Baby Pokémon per route where there is a grass encounter.
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode
7. I cannot evolve my baby Pokémon!!

Barry's AI impressed me in that fight of my game, too. I had my Vaporeon out and she got critted to low health. Barry's Floatzel was out, and he ended up Aqua Jetting into my Vaporeon to heal her with Water Absorb. It was badass.
Doesn't water absorb automatically draw in water-type moves as well? Or did that not happen in Gen 4?

The Rival using Swagger on Fat was complete Bananas! Like in all my years of playing pokemon, I have NEVER seen that happen. I didn't know it was even possible to happen. I'm guessing the rival saw the lum berry on Fat, that seems like the most likely factor, but I don't think I've ever had the Rival get to his Empoleon starter in that fight long enough to find out. But that was a total bro move.
Platinum AI is the most unpredictable CPU system of all time
It makes sense there because if the AI sees that you will kill, but they won't, they'll try to make you kill, so that's why the AI did that instead of anything else 'cause a +2 would have killed from full based on the amount of damage the neutral did.

Old McD's swagger combo was definitely one of the coolest things I've seen an AI trainer do.
I didn’t know the AI even could swagger an ally… I know they can with moves like pollen puff but I thought the AI uses those kind of moves on enemies

probably one of the most interesting nuzlockes I've seen. Was on the edge of my seat for many of the fights and blown away at the tactics used to get babies to smash through gyms.

I never noticed until seeing them all lined up like this, but it's actually pretty weird how they didn't make any baby Pokémon after Gen 4, until that one random Toxel in the latest games.
If I were to guess, GF realized how pointless and generally unpopular they were, so thy generally stopped making them.
However they liked Toxel’s baby design so much, they did it anyways
Gamefreak adds so many things, and never fleshes them out or builds on them.

@@boredfangerrude the main reason, to why i say that they are pointless, is because from a game mechanic perspective, they add nothing that a normal evolution/pre-evolution wouldn't provide.
Gameplaywise, the only real difference between a baby and non baby pokemon, is that you can't breed them. Which adds nothing.
While their main advantage is that they are just cute. Something that you can add regardless of making them a baby and thus inconveniencing those who want to breed them.
Lastly, making a new pre-evolution is generally unneeded, since all you are doing is adding in a weaker version, of an already pre-existing mon. Even if they are adorable.
In short, they add very little, if nothing at all, gameplaywise. So, Gamefreak has probably just abandoned the concept out of simplicity.
The only using thing about baby Pokémon is that they can learn new moves set that their second evolution can’t learn, like Pichu can learn sweet kiss but Pikachu can’t learn sweet kiss even though it’s level one. But the baby move set are awful.

The tag battle ai will also use electric moves on you if you have volt absorb and that kind of thing, it's surprisingly smart

And at the end of the day they're arbitrary rules set and followed by the creator of the video! So anyone that disagrees can (and should) move on. That's the beauty of it. I love how honest FlygonHG is, it makes tuning in that much better.

Basically, if it has 3 evolutions, you can’t evolve past the second evolution. And just to make it a bit more challenging, Chansey will be banned for this challenge because it’s so OP compared to the other mid-evos

A natural follow up for this video would be a Teen Age Pokémon challenge - with only allowing the 2nd evolution form from pokemon that has three stages.
So in other word, no two-step evolution pokemon or no-evolution pokemon. You know, Charmeleon looks pretty cool, but can it take on the Elite Four?

Hey Flygon, if you're looking for ideas to make nuzlocks with potentially type-diverse teams, you could do one using only Pokemon of a certain shape, as determined by the Pokedex. Haven't really seen anyone do that before

The feeling i get from watching a lvl 50 Mantyke butcher an E4 member while it's dumb back smiley face stares at me and Baby Shark plays in the background deserves a new word in the dictionary.
This was SO CLEVER - I've watched a lot of your challenge runs because I thoroughly enjoy them and your storytelling, but this was something else. Seeing someone actually utilize baby pokemon was fascinating, and you knocked it out of the park!
I REALLLLY appreciated the explainer about the items and when you will allow them. That transparency is great. Technically you could grind them so you’re just skipping the monotony! Which we’re fine with.

It's not canonically a Baby Pokémon, I'm afraid.
the definition of baby pokemon is kinda strict. it has to be a first form evolution (it might have to be the first of 3 but it has to be able to evolve at some point) and it has to be part of the undiscovered egg group. thats the reason why first form starters like squirtle arent considered babies despite being first form evolutions
Phone can lay an egg, whereas baby Pokémon have to be in the undiscovered egg group
@@austinwanner449 Mantyke is first of two, so it doesn't matter how many future forms it has, as long as it evolves at least once
When your rival used Swagger on your Munchlax in the tag battle, it reminded me of something similar that happened in one of my Nuzlockes. It was during the Lance tag battle in the Rocket Hideout in the Sacred Gold romhack. I led with Arcanine who had the ability Flash Fire, then swapped into my Bronzong. My ally's Dragonair targeted my Arcanine that turn with Fire Blast, and knocked out my Bronzong when it switched in. Needless to say, I was pissed.
The only other example I can think of like this is how the AI can sometimes target allies with status moves like Will-o-wisp and Toxic if the Pokemon they're targeting has the ability Guts.

Rivals in team battles can be pretty cool sometimes. The one time something like this happened to me was when Cheren's stoutland used wild charge on my electivire, which gained a speed boost due to motor drive.

Amazing run as always Dr. Flygon! This is definitely one of my favorites from you!! If you’re looking for ideas for future runs, I was thinking it might be a fun challenge to limit yourself to the same number of Pokémon as the gym leader / elite four member. For an even bigger challenge you could match their levels too. So say the gym leader has 3 mons, one level 17 and two level 15s - that’s all you could bring to the battle as well. That way it’s even more of a matter of out-strategizing the A.I., now without any number or level advantages.
