Can I beat Pokémon HeartGold with only Gift Pokémon using Hardcore Nuzlocke Rules?
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only get one Gift Pokémon on each route
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Eggs are considered as the encounter of the area where they hatch, not where they are obtained. So you could have gotten the Wooper and Slugma eggs from Primo and hatched them on some other route.
I don't think so, cuz then it can be easily exploited and make the run quite easy
I mean i suppose technically, but eggs show both who you got them from and where they hatched
@@oliverspencer2411 The "Met At" (which Is what most nuzlockers use for their encounters) says the zone It hatched.
@@accentillia8116 ih HGSS specifically it does say "[Date] [Location] Egg received. [Date] [Location] Egg hatched." I imagine that as long it's not through the daycare, the Egg hatched is the equivalent to the Met At location for a lot of players, but i think run to run can have different contexts for what they'll allow. In HGSS, the gift Togepi egg has Mr. Pokémon as the egg received location, and the gift Wooper, Mareep, and Slugma eggs have Primo as the egg received location. So i don't think anyone should have a problem with both a Primo egg and the gift Togepi egg if theyre hatched on different routes, and in a gift locke like this I think one of each egg would be acceptable, since both Quagsire and Ampharos are pretty good Pokémon, and both of Slugma's abilities will help speed up their hatching process

You could've actually defeated Red though. There's a particular weather condition called Diamond Dust that occurs on some very specific days, and replaces the regular hail on Mt. Silver. This completely negates the Hail damage in that battle.

USPS actually used to be really good at delivering eggs! People would buy chicken eggs and could rely on them arriving safe and in time to hatch. The current postmaster general is intentionally slowing mail service which has messed that up, but we used to be able to which was cool

Also could have won if you set the date to one of the many date-determined events (like on March 15th or October 10th), it triggers “Diamond Dust” which is a special event that gets rid of the hail entirely.

Certain berries lower EV values and raise happiness if you use them, so that you can change the EV spread you are using on your Pokémon.

@@LunaroseClaire It’s perfectly possible that he hacked in some berries to lower EVs, he’s done much more tedious things than feeding berries, he could’ve used hacks to change EVs too but he’s never done that before. Either way, it doesn’t really matter.

There are some days in which the hail atop of mount silver is turned into "diamond dust" (you can take a look at it in bulbapedia). This does not damage your Pokémon, meaning that last fight could have been a W. Its kind of insane.
The fight against Bruno’s Onix featured some of the most potent sarcasm I have ever seen
The funniest part is that you can hear the tiniest chuckle in his voice when he talks about the species clause.
Commenting five minutes into the video, the doctor is already using a truly atrocious naming scheme using intentional mispronunciation and taking like five stealth jabs at Johto a minute, I’m just glad that some things really do stay constant in life, it brings me comfort.

reminds me of my Gold nuzlocke; Smokey the Ursaring was the sole survivor but he swept the rest of the game thanks to elemental punches, which were TM in gen 2. Granted it operated off special, but with those and Earthquake he could handle just about anything.

Real tough run. Nice win. I certainly don’t blame you for not doing Kanto in the traditional way. It’s never super fun and doing it with only two mons is downright impossible.

hot tip for surge’s cans in this game: after finding the first one, you can save and then reset the game to methodically test the adjacent cans (the first can will stay even after reloading)

resetting each time just takes forever

Ah I love doing these gift only nuzlocke runs, they're so fun. If anyone tries to attempt a run like this I highly recommend SwSh(with dlc) and FrLg as they give you enough pokemon for at least a full team. If anyone wants a challenge try RSE with gift pokemon only :). Anyways this was a great video hope to see more!

LOVE the gift Pokémon run, it was my first “unique ruleset” Pokémon run I ever did, though I didn’t do it as a nuzlocke because that wasn’t really a thing back then. So much fun to see it done in this format

Hi Flygon, great job as usual! If you ever want to do a gifts only challenge again, I suggest Diamond and Pearl. You can only get 4 gift pokemon in those games, so it would be a bit tricky, but it would definitely be interesting to watch!

Great video as always! I really like this delayed level cap for the Kanto Gyms. Red seems to be the fight most people want to see, so optimizing your runs for him feels like a great way to make HGSS runs more manageable.
Plus the difficulty of the last 8 gyms is a bit... inconsistent to say the least. They're far easier than Lance, with the exception of Blue, so as long as you're not over leveling the gym's aces by a wide margin, I think this is the way to go.
Anyways, always love to see HGSS runs on the channel! I hope this approach can mitigate the slog that is post-game HGSS!

I've been working on a simple video where I do a catchless run of each of the first three games and discuss how I see the game design changing using that as a lense, to dip my toe into pokemon videos/videos in general, so seeing this is pretty cool.
I wish the actual games took this long to run through, love this style of commentary!
I think a challenge you can do would be what I call the monogen challenge in that you are only allowed to use pokemon introduced in that specific generation. You could probably do this in Johto to make it extremely challenging
Id love to see you do a challenge run of the Pokemon used by Twitch plays Pokemon and see how their mons stack up against another set of game rules like a hardcore nuzlocke, it could be an amazing run
Wonderful video as usual, misplays and all. Seeing what some commenters have said about the diamond dust and potentially other gift encounters, while this was a fun run I think if you were ever to "re-try" a run this may be a good contender; plus, there's the gift tentacool you can get in Cianwood City if you strand yourself there (no water type, so if you picked a different starter perhaps? Depending on how you want to map rival fights and such) that may be interesting to see come into play

just wanna point out, when you were fighting Koga, against his muk after it runs out of Gunk shot, coulda hard switch to dragonair and just use dragon rush, since it does double damage to and will always hit minimized pokemon :)

You know, on certain days, the hail on Mount Silver is turned into sparkling snow, which doesn't count as a hail effect in battle. It may be a little cheaty, but it could get you the win.
