- Can I beat Pokémon Black 2 with only Dark Types using Hardcore Nuzlocke Rules?
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first Dark Type Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause); This includes Pokémon that evolve INTO Dark types, but does NOT include non-Dark Pokémon that evolved from Dark types!
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

If i had a nickle for everytime Flygon lost a run at the champion because he got a crit on a pokemon he didn't intend to i'd have 2 nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

@@Bitchmadeshay theres a define rule in pokemon that if theres either a nuzlocke or a run thats doing good, there will be a crit that will absolutely ruin your plan or kill your pokemon whos would not have died if only theres a crit

If I wasn't so bad at Nuzlockes, I would definitely do something like this.

honestly they arent as hard as youd think. You dont have to do a hardcore nuzlocke and there are many types that make it easier

Fun fact about the physical special split: all dark type moves in gen 3 were special, but in gen 4, all dark moves that were in gen 3 became physical, so the only special dark moves were ones invented in gen 4 like dark pulse

Just being able to have Zoroark, Bisharp, Krookodile, Weavile and Drapion already makes this seem like good game for this challenge.
B2W2 is probably the best game for most monotype playthroughs (excluding SwSh due to wild area giving at least 1 pokemon of every type pre-gym 1) due to the wide type variety. Even Dragon gets 3 fully evolved options pre-elite four which, while not ideal, is better than most other games

I've heard a couple people mention their strats for Drayden's Dragon Tail was to literally only bring one pokemon so it could never be forced to switch out. I've never been that daring.

Honestly I really appreciate seeing a failed run now and then. Even often. These runs are no fun if they're predictable like how MDB's runs have gotten (as much as I love him still) and yours never fail to disappoint
Agreed; the stakes feel much higher when you know going into a video that a loss is a real possibility, instead of going into every vid knowing that it ends in a win on the first try/only includes the winning attempt

I would like to make a suggestion on a hardcore challenge that i believe no one has done: platinum flying types only, with the main issue being that your only encounters for roark are zubat and staravia, however once you go past the 1st gym the challenge would be pretty fun as there's a wide variety of encounters to assemble an interesting team
I think that may depend on the rules you use - for instance, Wurmple is actually available before Roark and could potentially evolve into Beautifly, who learns absorb and is how I swept through Roark on my Mono-bug challenge. Though in this case it depends on if you allow yourself to use pokemon that will eventually evolve into a specific type or not.

I just binged all your content in the span of about a week. I absolutely love your calm voice, funny stories, knowledge about the game, and editing.
I've always loved Pokemon and in the games, I would usually just choose big damage stab attacks like psychic, thunder, flamethrower, surf, etc. I was super young so stat changing moves never meant much to me; if it didn't do damage, it was poopoo. But now that I am older and slightly more educated, I wanna play through a game and try to think about strategies. Not doing nuzlockes, but maybe just not overleveling for gyms and E4. Start off there. I adore watching these playthroughs and really want to work to be as knowledgeable about the game as you are. It is truly inspiring.

Elesa seems doable enough with Braviary, or maybe even Manibuzz. If you're still on that, try Emolga with Light Screen. I think Gliscor could be good for Colress?
@@alexread6767 @Alex Read gliscor is good but its in the lategame, I will only have 4 mons pre Elesa, I don't allow static encounters for my extra rules, but I have a strat. IIt's called: Tranquil uses work up and return, or if the unthinkable happens, I'll sac woobat/swoobat, as I'll have a sigiliph, who is better. But I dread pre elesa colress fight might require some hacks uning golbat/crobat. Other difficulties are clay, ghetsis, grimsley, Iris, Zinzolin, mabye Drayden and marloon, and also I'm doing the entire post game as well with the nuzlocke rules, so there is another rematch with rock types and so on.
@@BulbaOGPPL oh, you meant the first colress fight. Thats gonna be hard with only Swoobat, Crobat, and Tranquil... I actually have no idea how that plays out.
@@alexread6767 well colress in Pokemon Worlt Tournament also is without ground types. For colress I have confuse ray and bite, and since I'm not allowed to do friendship grinding I'm not sure if I will be able to evolve golbat

Another video could be the best post-game team that you can build with no restrictions including egg moves, natures, abilities, ev training, etc. Using legendaries it´s not allowed tho.

Damn, today I also got wiped by Iris Dragon Dancing Haxorus (Hardcore Nuzlocke rules : no items in battle, no overleveling, set mode). Despite EV training my team and planning the elite 4 + champion battles, I made several mistakes (and got an unfortunate critical hit) that caused death to my win-conditions. I think this would have been better if I didn't killed some really useful mons during training session (RIP Starmie, Excadrill, Zoroark...). But I really had fun with this run and it was my first time playing with such strict rules. Now I just started my second attempt and will be more careful.
And today I'm glad you posted this video ! I really like your content, it's really instructive and help me a lot for my own challenges ! Can't wait for the next one !

It's also cathartic/reassuring to see someone so good at a game still make mistakes. I've lost track of the amount of times I've had an encounter in a run of Inscryption (Kaycee's Mod) in the bag, but then misclick and put a card like 1 space to the left or right of where it needed to be, which sets off a spiral ending in me just staring at the defeat screen, cursing

You should start doing monotype hardcore nuzlockes of the Drayano rom hacks. That’d give you a lot more team options in exchange for having to deal with a much more difficult game. Would be fun to watch!

The first time I played Black 2 I did a mono Dark type run, as it and Ghost are my favorite types. My starter/ace was Liepard (my favorite Pokemon ever), and I also used a Scrafty, Zoroark, Hydreigon, Mandibuzz and I believe a Bisharp. It was great, so it’s funny to see you do a similar thing now!

I’m pretty sure Bisharp is pronounced Bi-Sharp, not Bye-Sharp, like a Bishop from chess.
I’d LOVE a themed nuzlocke! For example, I’m thinking of doing a British “garden birds” team on Sword.
Pidove - pigeons are found in every town and wood pigeons in every garden
Rookidee - blue tit, again found in most gardens or hedgerows
Fletchling - robin, a classic winter bird in the UK
Cramorant - cormorant, a UK seabird who dives underwater to catch fish to eat, like a kingfisher
Wingull - gulls again are prevalent in most towns but seagulls are their well known cousins who steal your fish and chips at the seaside!
Swanna - swans are a protected species in the UK and it is illegal to injure, kill, take the eggs or eat a swan. In the past, all mute swans belonged to the monarchy but now, the Queen only takes ownership of a few families of mute swans on the river Thames
I love watching nuzlockes from Silph, I think he is great and very thorough with his runs and teams, meaning he rarely gets caught slacking, it is entertaining to me but I can't really relate to him cause I'm not as perfectionist as he is. On the other hand, we have Flygon, an absolute master of comedy and slip ups that make his run so much more relatable. And I'm not saying he isn't thorough enough, no, he obviously prepares for his battles and works the evs and all right, but his missclicks, his distractions, his very own self betraying him on almost every single run is just too good to miss. Love your work my dude, keep it up, I barely started watching your nuzlockes like 4 days ago and I can't get enough.
