    Rules and Explanations
    Rules: (1) Only use the one Pokémon in Battle, others for HMs are fine. (2) No Items in battle (3) No Glitches* (4) Set Mode (5) No saving in the Elite Four (6) No evasion moves
    Badge Boost "Glitch" Explanation: When you collect odd numbered badges the game boosts a stat by 12.5%. Brock gives ATK, Surge DEF, Koga SPE, and Blaine SPC (in game text is wrong). When any of your stats are modified (even by you using a move like Withdraw, or your opponent using Leer) the badge boosts are re-applied. So If you use Swords Dance, you also gain *an additional 12.5% in Speed/Defence/Special (on top of the 12.5% you were supposed to be getting). When you level up, the game corrects this error, and only the non-glitch 12.5% remains. Because of how difficult it is to avoid, I've allowed for it to be exploited, since opponents will spam Leer/Growl anyways, and this way battles are less random. Red/Blue are extremely buggy, so there's always going to be some glitches present, and because of how unavoidable this one is, it is allowed in runs, and considered more like a special Generation 1 mechanic as opposed to a glitch.

If it had 120 Attack, I guess they thought it would probably be frigging impossible for new players to take it down. But that beautiful 4x weakness to both Grass and Water circumvents that, I'd say. Surprisingly enough, you can. There is a group of NPCs with good AI that on the second turn will either boost its stats or heal, Lorelei is part of that group and she will have Dewgong use Rest on the second turn about 80% of the time.
    I thought you knew that when I saw Dig alongside Earthquake on Onix's moveset before you deleted, because delaying the first turn with Fly or Dig and have Dewgong rest while my Pokémon sets up is a strategy I used in my Pidgeotto run.

      Lorelei's Dewgong has a 50% chance of using Rest (who has always a Psychic move except in GO) on Turn 2 (should be Turn 1 but Gen I).
      How the 80% Rest chance come from? Against Nidoking (pokemon used in RB Speedrun and has the WR) it has a 50% chance to use Rest any turn except the 2nd, where it's guaranteed to use Rest.
      However, Dewgong WILL use Rest against a non-Ice weak Fighting and Poison Pkmn every turn, causing insanely long battles (and ended losing to Struggle recoil) against some Poison Pokemon.
      To evade this situation, in Pokemon Yellow Lorelei's Dewgong's moves are considered neutral 40% of the time. For Nidoking (again the Pokemon for a speedrun, and is actually older than in RB because no Squirtle starter) Lorelei's Dewgong had a 30% chance to use Rest every turn (now it also has Bubble Beam) against it except in the 2nd where the chance is 80%. This AI is only done for her Dewgong and only in Yellow.

    • @farnan92
      @farnan92 Год назад +8

      In Gen II, Top trainers had Great AI which is better than Good AI.
      The trainers with Good AI had a similar modification than in Gen I with the following exceptions:
      -If a Pokemon it's weak to one type and resist the other now the AI considers that move as neutral.
      -For resistances and weakness, it only considers moves with doesn't have 0 Power.
      -For immunities it totally dismiss the move unless there is no alternative...
      There's a similar AI modification similar to RBY AI 2 modification... that doesn't include healing moves and it works in the 1st turn of battle (there's a bug with item usage that Gen II speedrunners abuse, specially against Red).
      Also, in Gen II, there's a basic AI (shared by all trainers except Twins) that dismisses many situations where the move would be useless. And the Status AI modification also dismisses poisoning a Poison type and type inmunities (yep, the AI doesn't use Hypnosis on Darks and Sing on Ghosts even though they're AFFECTED).

      Modifications 2 and 3 explained why this was happening, since Dewgong would have had no reason to use anything but Aurora Beam. I might have mistaken the 80% chance of Rest at the actual percentage it happens, but I battled the E4 lots of times, and I do mean lots and it using Rest on the second turn seemed to happen a hell of a lot more than 50%.

    • @ClaraFinn
      @ClaraFinn Год назад +23

      Rhydon has higher Attack, starts with Horn Attack and Stomp (Golem just gets Tackle) and can get Ice Beam & Thunderbolt in addition to Fire Blast.
      Golem just gets Fire Blast but its Special is a bit higher, but the main thing is Golem can badge boost and Rhydon can't - Golem starts with Defence Curl but Rhydon can't learn any stat raising moves other than Double Team. My money would be on Golem because Rhydon's better opening moves won't be that much better against Brock and they get Dig pretty early on anyway

      Not trying to compare the 2, just saying that if you like jrose, Scott's Thoughts is definitely worth giving a look for a bit of a different approach on the same subject matter. He's not just an imitator, he's found a lil niche of his own.

    I think Dewgong is actually coded in a way that it always uses Rest on turn 2. I am not entirely sure but I remember a few speedrunners mentioning this in the past.
    Onix is a weird one in Gen I - Nice speed, nice defense, but for a rock pokemon it has low attack and really low HP for whatever reason, especially considering his x4 weaknesses against 2 special types.

      @Ace RK
      I don’t think that’s comparable. That Scyther started at level 30 with a good moveset and had a team backing it up in Lavender Tower, it basically skipped all the difficult parts. I predict Brock will be a roadblock in a solo run since Onix knows Bide and Scyther is one of those Pokémon you’re not supposed to have this early on, so it doesn’t learn anything other than Quick Attack until level 17.

    18:23 Funny enough, even at lv 23, Rival 4's Gyarados actually does know Hydro Pump.

      @matteorenzulli1070 Год назад

      Because it starts with Hydro Pump at level 1. If I'm not mistaken, the game won't consider the pre-evolutions. It was not a Magikarp which evolved, it has always been a Gyarados. For this reason, the Champ's Exeggutor knows only Barrage, Stomp and Hypnosis, although the Rival 6's Exeggcute knows also Solar Beam

      @@matteorenzulli1070 yeah you're right. It would make sense that itd have Hydro at an early level, forgot it at some point during the level up learnset, and relearned it later on.

    Love your videos, checking RUclips and seeing a new one for the evening to watch is always great!
    I found a small mistake - in tier list (and your voice over) Onix finished with level 74. But in the Hall of Fame it was level 76.
