I got EQ8 as a Christmas present last year and I l-o-v-e it. It is both very straightforward and very technical but I've had excellent results with their assistance (thru both emails and their online, prerecorded tutorials). I haven't scratch-designed many quilts on it but I have taken purchased patterns and built them in EQ8. My favorite thing is scanning selected stash fabric into the design. I know I've saved myself valuable fabric and it is almost eerie how the quilt comes out looking just like the EQ8 graphic.
LOVE this program!! They have made it so much easier to use than earlier versions. There is no end to what you can do. It creates cutting charts, templates and foundation paper piecing templates too.
Nancy, maybe you convinced me to get this program. I had a bad experience with a quilt program a few years ago and lost the money I spent with no recourse so I am a little unsure of buying another one. Sure do love your videos and wished I lived in MI to take some classes from you. Have a great day.
Thanks Karen - i truly believe this version of EQ is the very best, but like with all things technical, taking classes and using the program will make it more an more familiar.
I am new to quilting, about a year. I have been enjoying your videos so much. I am learning a lot from you. I want to make everything I see, just a few blocks of everything to learn how to do it. Right now I think color is what I struggle the most with. I don't trust myself so I stick with precuts for now. I'm learning though. Thanks Nancy.
Nancy....does this or should I ask can it help me with the lone star pattern.....and help me with colors to choose .....or could you point me to where or what program to get ....ty Nancy
Barbara Pelltier I have designed 4 different variations on the lone star quilt using EQ8. It's so much fun to watch it all come together. And you can see how it will look when it's done from the print screen
Yes Barbara it will - they have a star layout and you can put into that layout any block at all and it will then tell you what size to cut your diamonds or you can even do a paper pieced design with it. and the coloring part is the easiest thing, it's l like a coloring book. it comes with so many fabrics built in and then you can download free collections from the EQ website and even scan in your own fabrics - i haven't done that one yet but need to learn it soon :)
I was on the fence if I should spend the money or not, but you SOLD me, I will be getting the EQ8. It has a Bargello section which I really want to make one day. In EQ8, is it just the pattern for a Bargello or can you also design your own Bargello?
Hi Thomas - thanks for watching and I am sure you will love the program. it has a couple of versions that you can play with size and color but it is possible to create your own, I think with a custom set - I have never designed one totally from scratch but I'm sure that is a way - EQ had really good tech support so don't be afraid to reach out to them when you are ready and I can't wait to see what you make!! Keep watching and sharing our shows :)
Thanks 🙏 but once you change the colours ( I saved the diamond strip quilt ) how do you make into blocks ? Confused. It won’t give FPP for diamond and clicking on the strip it just gives triangle or diamond . Can I find out how to piece it ? 🤔 appreciate help please
Hi - Glad you liked this. Remember EQ is for designing, not construction but there are lots of tips for learning more. You may consider joining the Design Lever membership on my channel where every month we have an ZOOM session all about EQ and members questions :) - Nancy
@@QuiltingWithNancy Thanks Nancy - I wish it did a bit more. But I have enjoyed trying new colours. Im waitlisted for QuiltCon beginners. I tried drawing my own pattern with Easy Draw but trying to get the size exact in each block.. I gave up. It gives me an idea though re yardage. I will consider your membership - thanks

We need EQ classes in GR! Hint, hint!
I will try to get one on the schedule for Smith-Owen Sewing Center, that is where I teach in in Grand Rapids :)

Will it help me design a quilt using a fabric panel?
Karen, That is a perk when you are a member of the channel :)
