ARP 625 HEAD STUD INSTALL ON A 6.7 CUMMINS

  • The job today is to install some ARP 625 head studs on a 2018 Ram with a 6.7 Cummins. This is to help reduce a head gasket failure which is common on these engines due to the weak head bolts. The 625 studs provide much greater clamping force at 150 foot pounds. I also walk through doing valve lash at the end because it is always good to double check. I will link Hayden’s Instagram down below if you guys want to follow his build.

    So I've read that when doing 1 for 1 just to take it straight to the desired tourque

    Always always always put them in the way ARP says too and then re check after a few head cycles.

    I’ve heard a couple people saying just dropping the studs in is the cheap and easy route and to be effective you should pull the head and do the gasket and all. What are your opinions

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  4 года назад +1

      Hey Garrett, this truck is a 2018 with only like 5k miles on it so it is all good for sure. When you get into high miles or if the truck has ever had a gasket done before then i would pull the head! Thats always been my rule.

    7:25. Just a reminder ARP does not recommend this. I’ve called them. Their tech department says to thread it in until it bottoms out. That’s it. No tighter than hand tight. Easy peasy. In reality it probably doesn’t matter tho.

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  3 года назад

      See ive heard both different things from arp so its like whats right😂i just follow it because understanding thread engagement like it makes sense but you are right probably doesn’t even matter haha

      So I think the reason to back the studs out a 1/4 turn is to get them off the block so when you torque them down they don’t turn by accident and scar the block or even crack it depending on where it’s bottoming out like over a water passage way. Always better to be careful

  • @shweller909gmailcom
    @shweller909gmailcom 4 года назад

    Did you re-torque the studs after a heat cycle or break it loose and re-tighten 4 times?

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  4 года назад +1

      No we didnt retorque. Ive never heard of people retorquing unless its like a new head or fresh engine build

    Can i do this if my head gasket is still good? Is it recommended to do one by one

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  2 года назад

      You can yes but if the truck is old or high miles id recommend pulling the head and doing a new gasket

      The practice of backing out the stud is to prevent the stud from penetrating into a water jacket.

    • @jordancampbell3723
      @jordancampbell3723  3 года назад +1

      This truck only had about 5k miles on it at the time so we did them 1 by 1. If a truck is older with a decent amount of miles it’s probably best to pull the head

  • @ingergriggs4626

    Don’t have to stud it at all !! If it’s stock. Guess everybody thinks all the upgrades are the way to go. Kinda tired of hearing about cummins blowing head gaskets. Guess people don’t have anything better to do. Shit going back to working on my case.
