- Have you been searching for a mouthwash that will work for your mouth, but you can't seem to find the best mouthwash? Well, in this video Dr. Joseph Nemeth answers common questions that we get about mouthwash.
One of the biggest questions is, Do I choose Alcohol Mouthwash or Non Alcoholic Mouthwash?
Well, it truly depends on your mouth. If you like that minty fresh feeling where all of the bacteria is killed in your entire mouth, then Alcohol Mouthwash may be best for you.
However, if you suffer from dry mouth, or if your tooth sensitivity or sensitive gums, a mouthwash with no alcohol may be a better choice. A non alcoholic mouth wash does a better job at killing the bad bacteria, while leaving some of the good bacteria. The good bacteria may help with reducing bad breath.
When your mouth gets dry, it increases your risk of tooth decay and gum disease, it may also contribute to bad breath. With that being said, many people use alcoholic mouth wash and never get a dry mouth, so it completely depends on your situation.
If you choose to use an alcoholic mouthwash, it will do a more thorough job at killing almost all of the bacteria in your mouth. If you choose to use a non-alcoholic mouthwash, it may reduce tooth sensitivity and sensitive gums, it may reduce the risk of dry mouth and bad breath. However, it will not kill all of the bacteria in your mouth.

My dentist suggested any mouthwash that kills 99.9% of bacteria...
And I’m trying to improve my dental method to save my teeth from anymore enamel wear and gum recession. My family hasn’t been adequately teaching me throughout my life. And I’m only trying to get better now, because while I doubt I’ll ever have anything close to a perfect white smile, I have to save as much of my teeth as possible or at least flatten the curve from anymore likeliness of getting cavities and worse gum problems.
Summary: if you use mouthwash (not even necessary), prefer mouthwash that does not contain alcohol.
This is because mouthwash without alcohol will kill off less bacteria (good and bad) in your mouth compared to mouthwash with alcohol (kills more bacteria, good and bad).

I have been facing this issue for almost a year now and also dry mouth. I first thought it is from mouth so I got my teeth cleaned and the dentist assured me that it will cure the bad breath but it didn’t. I have gerd issues but that is normal from a while and i also think i have sinus because i usually have running nose when i get up and a kind of irritation in nose. At work I have to talk to many people and it kills my confidence when they rub their nose. I just forget what i was talking about and it is creating problems for me. I brush my teeth twice a day. Eat chewing gums entire day and keep my mouth hydrated by drinking water yet this shit isn’t going away. until I meant Dr Emovon on RUclips. This question is about a old video about activated charcoal I use fresh is it ok if if I use it once and week then use my old brand the rest of the days I used to use (crest) is that ok? URGENT: Dr Nemeth, my grandma is experiencing pain all over her body, I think it's caused by her teeth or gums, I looked into her mouth and there were black lines between the gums and teeth, she's had crowns and fillings. She's refusing to go see a dentist because she's scared of the pandemic, what should I do? And what are those black lines, and what exactly is causing the whole body aching?
I'm not a doctor but I know that body ache is also a symptom of the common cold or the flu, I wouldn't be so sure that it's her teeth maybe wait it out for a bit if possible and then if it doesn't disappear check up with a doctor. Preferably not on RUclips you can call a Doctors office and ask for advice.

If off the shelf alcohol mouthwash kills all bacteria, then what is so special about prescription mouthwash that is prescribed before and after some procedures?

Mouthwash before treatment usually to reduce the chance you can get for infections from microorganism from the following procedures (usually surgery treatment).
Mouthwash after treatment usually to reduce the chance for infection after the procedures, especially when you have an open wound after the procedure (such as extraction of tooth, gingivectomy, etc). Its recommended to using the mouthwash which include antiseptic effect until your wound is closed.

Whats the deal with hydrogen peroxide?
I’d like to hear from Dr. Nemeth about that too. I believe it kills as much or more bacteria than alcohol mouth wash. It’s not recommended for long term use. It has a debilitating effect on tissue. It’s not the first choice for disinfecting wounds because of this.
That's gonna mess up your teeth enamel, your supposed to only gargle it with water, it'll kill the bad breath

He did video on how to use to keep mouth healthy in 2020. My own dentist and hygienist agreed. I use it 2-3x per week more if getting sick.

Non Alcohol Mouthwash only exists because people keep drinking Alcohol Wash, you can guess why
