What happens too often in the doctor's office is this:
A patient does keto on his own, and the doctor sees that the patient (1) lost 25 pounds (2) lowered his fasting blood sugar (3) lowered his blood pressure (4) lost his eczema (5) improved his mood (6) got rid of his digestive ailments (7) raised his "good cholesterol" (HDL) and (8) drastically lowered his triglycerides.
But then the doctor sees that the LDL went up, and declares that this diet is unhealthy,
Such a doctor simply needs to learn the science around cholesterol, and to stop taking medical advice from congressional committees and other bureaucrats.

Preach it Frank! My endocrinologist about fell off his chair when my six thyroid nodules shrunk 2 years running after growing (on SAD diet) for 8 years. This still can't change his mind to use Keto to reverse his type 2 diabetic patients. Medical doctors are so afraid of the lows. I can imagine that even one patient in a diabetic coma would be devastating to a doctor. Teaching someone how to dose insulin is so different than teaching someone how to eat low carb and safely lower their insulin. Even the smartest brains and most well meaning doctors can't seem to wrap their heads around how safe this is and how healthy it is! I will give him Dr. Westman's new book, End Your Carb Confusion and Gary Taubes' new book, The Case for Keto & keep shrinking those nodules. What else can we do?!?!

5 months ago my daughters and granddaughter took a girls getaway weekend and I couldn’t go because i knew I was unable to walk and keep up with them. I I’m 63 yes old and don’t want to miss another opportunity to spend time with my family. After crying and feeling sorry for myself I opened RUclips and started searching. I’ve lost 38 lbs already and my kids are planning all the things we can do together next summer. They are so proud of me. Keto is sustainable it’s a lifestyle not just a diet and I feel better than I have in years.

My story isn't about weight, and I often regret that these conversations focus on obesity, although I understand why that's the case.
I went carnivore about a year ago, at age 63, and eliminated my eczema and blepharitis, which more than one doctor told me wasn't curable, only manageable. The relief I experienced from ending that wretched itching is indescribable. I hope anyone with a chronic condition takes matters into their own hands and researches the proper human diet. You do NOT need to suffer. And the solution is FREE. That's why it's unpopular.

He was a true pioneer and his reputation has been sullied since his death. This made me really mad. I think he deserves A LOT more credit than he presently gets. It says on Wikipedia that his diet is still considered the most popular FAD DIET in America. Excuse me?! I am so glad to see him being recognized recently with the respect that he deserves.

April 2023 I started keto and experienced a summer like I hadn’t had in a long time. The past several years, in the heat of the summer I’d have lower back pain and suffer sciatica, unable to function- stand for more than a couple minutes without having sciatic pain and difficulty bending down to pick something up or get a good night sleep. The summer of 2023 I’d say I was 85% improvement with minimal periodic pain. After 5 months on keto I switched to carnivore to give my gut a rest from fiber, and the inflammation came down so much quicker esp in my abdomen- leaving me with nearly a flat stomach Low carb is for me🎉

The doctor didn't know how they would be related. I turned to my wife and said, "she has insulin resistance! That causes both skin tags and PCOS. She's probably a type two diabetic. " The doctor looked up the connection, found it to be high insulin and insulin resistance, and found out that the patient had recently stopped taking her metformin for her PCOS or type two diabetes.

Hypoglycemic from childhood to menopause, now with non-stop autoimmune and a-fib issues, untreated because of drug reactions. @@AnythingGoals The new Atkins version allows higher carb limits, even in the initial Induction Phase, that won't put most people into ketosis, so the weight loss is slower. I bought the 2002 book, "Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution" and I highly recommend reading that book, so then you can compare old and new.
But if you're asking about Keto, there are as many different versions as there are keto gurus, and it's usually much more restrictive and complicated than old Atkins, so a much smaller percentage of people can stick to it and it tends to cause eating disorders in those who are vulnerable to that.

They hated that he was right. I'll always wonder if the good Dr. Atkins's unfortunate slip on the ice back in 2003 was an "accident". Very convenient timing for "them", the famous Dr. Cornish included. Thanks.

You're right about Doctor Atkins. For a period of time, Atkins was THE face to the public of low-carb/keto. He took so much flak, unfairly, that soon other low-carb keto diets that were only Barely different from Atkins came forward (South Beach Diet, etc....) and they all said essentially "Yes, low-carb is the way to go but we're not like that crazy Atkins diet! Oh, No! Ours is entirely different. We do HEALTHY low-carb/keto...." blah blah blah. And they would mischaracterize Atkins as consisting of nothing more than only eating the tops off of pizzas. As I said, these diets were all not much different from what Atkins actually put forth, but they wanted to distance themselves from Atkins specifically. There's a diet plan promoted on TV right now, that talks about insulin resistance. It's all the rage now to talk about IR, and actually that's probably a good thing. But I first read about "insulin resistance" in the Atkins book in February of 1999. (I started low-carb/keto Feb 17, 1999.) And the Atkins book had already been around for several (about 20?) years by then.

The doctor said great results and we expect LDL to go up under keto but as your LDL has gone up, by law I have to tell you that you have a risk of heart attack in the next 5 years and inform you about statins then you make the choice as to whether you take them our not. I love the story about Dr. Atkins funding the study! I did the Atkins diet as an inactive chubby teen with a duodenal ulcer. I loved it and it worked for me, but couldn't maintain due to peer, parent and doctor pressure as well as the prevailing fat-phobia of the times. I developed hypertension in my twenties, and eventually was sort of controlled with 3 hypertension meds, potassium, a statin and an antidepressant. I did the DASH/Ornish diet for about the next 20 years, (which incidentally did NOT work) but my cardiologist highly recommended it, along with cardiovascular exercise, which I always had trouble doing. When I turned 65, I started having severe gut and bone/joint issues (and thyroid symptoms with normal TSH).
On my own I discovered Dr. Berry and the PHD. Fast forward 2 years: I lost the 50 pounds that took me from obese to normal (I'm short), I dropped my blood pressure and all the meds, I have no more joint pain, constant throat mucus, heartburn, diarrhea, and brain fog. I can briskly walk for miles now, and I feel great! Still working on the osteoporosis and getting my hair & skin back, but my LDL is "too high" (even though the rest of my labs are perfect) so my cardiologist is mad at me, and ready to dismiss me as a patient for non-compliance! Go figure.

At the same time my chiropractor used to be in favor of carnivore and now she is backed off from that saying it's too strict. She can't give me specific answers as to why other than to say it's too strict and you need other vitamins and minerals and nutrients. I believe she has always been honest with me in the past research is about nutrition and supplements, I have taken her advice with good results. I don't understand the switch or her backing off from carnivore. I don't know she thinks I'm talking about the lion diet which is the strictest or what is going on and I cannot get a very clear answer from her at this time. I know you don't know her and don't know why she has backed away from what she thought was good. And she does say it's good as an elimination Diet for maybe about 2 weeks but not to live on for the rest of your life. How long have you as a chiropractor been on either keto or carnivore, and do you see any long-term problems with it?

My son started keto last July. He now weighs 230 and staying the course to hit his goal of 220. He's happy, working out, wearing clothes that fit and beaming with confidence. Thank you both for the much needed education you're providing people all over the world 💕

I'm in the VA system. Diagnosed Type 2, they set up the phone appointment with the dietician. I'd done the ADA diet with my mother in law, knew it didn't work. Listened to the dietician, same spiel. Cut my carbs to 20 to 40 a day. Three months later, went back, a1c went from 12.6 to 5.8, cholesterol went to normal, blood pressure went down to normal. Dr. says 'you are the best diabetic EVER, you really paid attention to the dietician. No one does that.' Told him yeah, you keep on believing that. I'm down 40 lbs in 4 months. Another 2 months I'm going to have to start adding calories. I'll be under 120 lbs.

Please tell your doctor! And tell the dietician! They are all so blind and brainwashed. In the hospital, they bring our diabetics trays that I would barely eat before I went keto. It’s so sad and I know they mean well, they just don’t have accurate information. Btw, I am also a veteran and could go to the VA but have never went for care...as I get older and my insurance sucks, I may need to though.

You may never see this as its been a year since you posted but it was my visit to the VA that ticked me off and got me started on the carnivore road. He said no eggs (BS) turmeric has no proven benefits (BS-and he's Indian) don't do any exercise but a bike, and take this statin drug. I challenged him on that and he countered with he'd been on a statin since the age of 23 and has no problems. Went to youtube to investigate (though I already knew) found Dr Ken Berry carnivore plan, and Kelly Hogan, and FlavCity with Bobby Parrish and learned so much. Its been a week, 90% of my pains are gone, I move quicker, feel better. And I ditched my metformin since I'm not eating sugar and carbs.

@@davidwelday3276 I was off all the meds they put me on within 6 months. They kept jerking me around when I went in complaining of pain in my scalp. They claimed it was from the diabetes. At the time my A1C was 5.0. Visit after visit to the emergency room. Complaining of things. Always, it was the diabetes. They were throwing drugs at me right and left, also accusing me of being on recreational drugs the whole time. Even though there was a full blood panel for recreational drugs performed.
Then one day it was as if someone pulled a grey blind over my right eye. That's when I lost my cookies and went up to the VA screaming for one particular doctor I trusted. He sent me straight to the eye doctor who checked my eyes. Nothing wrong. The eye doctor sent me to have an ultrasound. I had 100% blockages in my carotid arteries. I was eligible for Medicare the month before and had signed up for the Part G coverage. I knew they were going to kill me eventually. Just like they did my husband (he died on a waiting list for a colonoscopy, of rectal cancer. The Nurse Practitioner noted a growth and did nothing).
I was in a civilian doctor's office 3 days later. After heart testing and some other tests they did my right side. As luck would have it, a nerve was bruised during the surgery. I couldn't feel the right side of my face and I was talking as if I've had a stroke. It's way improved and they are going to do the other side on Aug. 1. I'm off most of the meds the VA put me on.
I did go back on the metformin by request after the surgery. My numbers went up and it was worrying me. So, it was a small step on my part to do it. Still, with the upcoming surgery, I thought it was prudent because this stress really does affect blood glucose. I'll get off it after the next surgery.
I was a walking stroke waiting to happen. It took an eye doctor to figure it out. Go figure.

Loved to see / hear these guys!
I did a keto diet in 1969 with Dr Marshall Stamper of Costa Mesa, CA. My new hubby in the army was sent to the jungles of Vietnam in 1968 for a year and I gained 30+. I was already 20 lbs overweight.... He put me on a keto diet (he didn’t call it by any name) - yes - with diet pills - but the 50 lbs quickly melted away before hubby arrive home & discharged. Unfortunately it was ‘a diet’ for me - I was too stupid to look at it as a way of life. By the way, he later started The Lindora Weight Control Clinic!!!
I found Dr Berry 18 months ago when I finally got the smarts to return to that diet 18 months ago ... at age 68!! I was 18 the first time around!!!

This is such a great video. I’ve been teetering back and forth from should I or shouldn’t I for the longest time. I’m terrified of having a heart attack. Years of doctors preaching about high ldl. I’m just gonna take the plunge. I want to thank you both for your practices and your passion on this subject!😁💕

Keto should reduce the chances of having a heart attack or stroke! Is what I learned from these MD's. I was told the LDL' s may slightly increase on this diet. But, I learned there are 2 types of LDL's : large ones & small ones. The small ones are the dangerous ones they said. The large ones are not dangerous and the increase in LDL's on this diet were the large LDL'S! Dr. Westman's studies showed a reduction of heart attacks with veterans at Duke. I think initially my LDL' S increased a little at first but today I have low LDL's, low bad cholesterol and high good cholesterol at age 73. God bless you!

I have been off my type 2 diabetes medicine for a year and a half. Off my high blood pressure medicine for a year. I feel better than I have in years. I am 75 and have been on more diets than anyone I know. I no longer call it a diet, I say I am doing a low carb life style. Also, one video I watched said to always remember your WHY. Why am I doing this? I say this to myself often. Thank you for these videos that I watch and rewatch to remind myself of my WHY. Watching these videos help me to keep my WHY in front of me.

You know, I really don't remember how I found out about keto. I was newly diagnosed with T2d and was determined to do anything to make it better and loose about 15 lbs. Turnes out I lost 40 lbs. I knew I was in trouble and misdiagnosed, I actually had T1D/LADA. I am now insulin dependent and still eating keto/low carb. I knew enough to stay very far away from the ADA recommended diet. Thanks for all the information over the last several years it really helped.

I concur I started keto 25 days ago and within a few days started to see a total improvement in my health. Reflux disappeared, my mood and energy level increased, and my jeans are loose plus my belly fat is gone. ( I haven't weighed yet). I thought that menopause was the reason I was feeling sluggish and had gained 15 lbs. but It was the carbs/sugar. I've always been very active and a regular at the gym.
Thank you Dr. Berry!!! I discovered you when I was looking for a way to treat toe nail fungus. After watching your videos I had a "light bulb" experience and it all made perfect sense. Keto is the most delicious and satisfying eating plan that I have ever experienced. I don't feel like I missing carbs/sugar because true flavor comes from real food. Again thank you Dr. B and your beautiful wife. Y'all keep me motivated.

Pleasure to meet Dr.Westman in Phx at a keto seminar. You both are a favorite of mine that I follow. No matter how much I explain to my many diabetic family members how keto can help them....they either don’t get it, don’t care, say it’s too hard, say they can’t afford it.... and then continue to be sick....saddens me. So thankful to follow a sensible healthy plan.
