    I took BA296 in late March last year on the A380. Glad I took that chance knowing it’s not flying there anymore, though maybe they’ll bring it back.
    Also I like how you included LX9, as that was the flight that started my love for aviation.

    From someone who works at Terminal 5, I have some info about the Terminal 5 ramp that would be very useful for you. (ex-T5 ramp controller and current airport scheduling coordinator) (Yes I plan what aircraft goes to what gate, during the "day of" the tower can move aircraft around depending on ETAs and overall delays. This is for gates M13-M40W + Hardstands 101-104. Delta M2-M11 handles their own gating but we do the ramp control for them.)
    From gates M14-M15 the aircraft would push tail North or South. From Gates M16-M33W they would push tail East and leave the ramp at V1 (which is directly behind M15). The only time an aircraft between M16-M33W would push tail west (like LX did in the video) would be to reposition to the hardstands. From Gates M34-M40W they would push tail North. This is what we call the handstand alley. Within the handstand alley it has now been repainted to be a dual taxi way. Narrow body aircraft (321Neo and down) would follow the center line and transition to the East line. When a narrowbody pushes off into this alley they would push to the West line. There is a STOP line just behind M35 for the aircart to wait since we can not have a narrow enter and leave at the same time. There is a center line for the widebody aircraft (757 and up) to use for both inbound and outbound. The dual alley lines blocks the use of the center and use of the center blocks the use of the dual alley lines. On the East line it has an triangle on the line facing north indicating the direction of travel and the same thing for the west line but facing south. For the center line it is just a circle. For the main ramp (between M14-M33W) we have this function as a semi one-way alley. All aircraft arriving can enter at any V entry points but most enter down at the end at V7 (right behind M33W) and taxi to their gate location. When leaving the ramp they push tail east, taxi westward towards V1 to leave.
    Some extra items. With LX pushing off of M25W they would need to push the other direction but besides that AS could not be parked at M26 with a wide at M25W. The correct way would be LX is to push tail East, AS would have entered at V7 and waited with the nose of the aircraft parrelle with M29ish with M28 being the farthest possible and once LX has cleared/made space then AS could park at M26. WN is almost always gated at M25, M27, M28. the reason why not at M26 is the holdroom and boarding space inside the building is extremely small. So we mostly schedule narrowbody international arrivals at M26.
    M17, M21, M29W, M34 can all take a 747-8. M17 and M29W both take a 380. For M29W the second bridge to connect to the aircraft is actually the M28 bridge.
    And a side note that isn't all to well known, we have a gate M13, it is a bussing gate (so no aircraft park at it). It is between M11 and M14, and there is a roadway that gos under the overhang of the building there. We don't ever really us it and currently only a terminal transfer bus operates there BUT this is where passengers would be picked up if we had to run a bussing operation from T5 to the Hardstand locations (M101-M104(A)(B)). Or could be dropped off if the flight coming in was a domestic flight. M20 is there international flights would be dropped off if they needed to bus to terminal 5.
    In terms of gating dependencies (such as no narrows on M26 when M25W is occupied) here they all are;
    M17 blocks M17A (17A is the line the 380 parks on)
    M17A blocks M17
    M25 blocks M25W
    M25W blocks M25 and M26
    M26 blocks M25W and M27W
    M27 blocks M27W (this is a weird one in which the 757 goes onto M27 and not M27W and there are no dependencies for it. we treat it like any other narrow body on M27)
    M27W blocks M26 and M27
    M28 blocks M29W
    M29W blocks M28 and M29
    M29 blocks M29W
    M30 blocks M30W
    M30W blocks M30 and M32
    M32 blocks M30W and M33W
    M33 blocks M33W
    M33W blocks M32 and M33
    M35 blocks M35W
    M35W blocks M35 and M36
    M36 blocks M35W and M37W
    M37W blocks M36 and M37
    M37 blocks M37W
    M38 blocks M39W
    M39W blocks M38 and M39
    M39 blocks M39W and M40W
    M40 blocks M40W
    M40W blocks M39 and M40
    For M39W and M40W there is additional restrictions in that;
    "If M39W is in use with a B777-200, it restricts M40W to a B787-10 or smaller. Excluding A343"
    "If M40W is in use with a B777-200, it restricts M39W to a B787-10 or smaller. Excluding A343"
    Any gate not listed on here does not have a gating dependencies.
    If you want to know what Aircraft can fit at each gate I have this information as well but it is a TON to type out and I don't want this to be more a novel then it already is.

    When I saw that the video was a O’Hare update I was wondering if I would see an American or United CRJ-200 off to Peoria, sure enough the last aircraft was!!

      Ehhh I mean ORD is basically United's hub for 787-10s. and the capacity difference between the 777-300ERs and the 787-10 isn't that big. In fact even though the 787-10 is 'rare' it is crazy common at ORD. We get like 5-6 United routes with it, BA and KLM also regularly send 787-10s.

    Really enjoy your channel. With SAS becoming a Skyteam member, do you think they will leave ORD? Also, I do not see their ORD-ARN flight loaded on their site yet for summer 24.

    • @andykillsu
      @andykillsu 3 месяца назад

      They will likely continue to fly to ORD because it is a big destination city. You see it with other Skyteam members like KLM, Air France and ITA flying to Chicago. But the Stockholm service isn't being continued anymore likely because of SAS switching to Skyteam. There just isn't enough demand to support that route without a hub feeding passengers in.

    Now that BA has stopped the A380 service, I have my hopes that Emirates might bring the A380 to Chicago now that the one A380 gate isn't being used. Also really interesting to see the new random Alaska Airlines Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo service. I hope it does well since it isn't going to one of their hubs.
