- Luke Holland, 21 years old! I'm from Peoria, Arizona. This is yet another song from AAL that pushed me as a drummer. Matt Garstka is a monster!

This guy has gotten so freakin tight since i can remember his first videos on devil wears prada!! And this is coming from a well trained ear drummer/percussionist. I love the new dw, 1080p, and his amazing attacks combined with originality. His technique is outstanding and i couldnt be more impressed especially with this new animals as leaders song which i love as well!! Keep on Rockin!
***** Will you eventually?
I was gunna say lol, his first vids were like all texas in july with hookline n sinner and his oceans will part band or whatever it was called. between him adam and matt is literally what made me start drumming 5 years ago haha keep it up buddy! *****
+Dylan Marchese His band is called The Word Alive
Nope im talkin Like 6 years ago he had a band called oceans will part in highschool Tokka
Dylan Marchese
Ahk, fair enough
I feel like your drums have never sounded better(Just my opinion.) Go Remo!
***** Absolutely, good mixing/mastering is a must for professional work. Fantastic playing as well, Matt Garstka is pretty insane.
It's mostly because of Cameron Mizell. His mixing & mastering, & sound engineering skills are amazing. He's the owner of Chango Studios & has recorded many of the Post-hardcore bands you here today. Also I believe he records the bands with the Avid Omni HD recording system. Definitely HD quality.
***** What Remo heads are you currently using?
Dude, awesome cover yet again. never fail to impress. glad I got the pleasure of meeting you on the unconditional tour! I was the one that took a pic with you after the Dallas show
You have an incredible kit. Excellent job; this song is a beast
0:52 I love this moment of the song
your drum sound/mix has really improved!
not sure how this got any dislikes. it was played perfectly
Amazing Luke!
Working on that full sleeve I see. ;) sick cover bro!
You & Travis Barker are the two best drummers out today... #NoOneCanChangeMyMind
im use this to learn the songs really like the format cheers
Fantastic!
I could be wrong, but look at the ride cymbal, and then look at the crash on his left with the holes, it looks like gartskas stack taken apart for individual cymbal use.
Best song on the album
Okay doing a little edit here, it's tied with tooth and claw and Woven Web
Skyler Genazzi Mind Spun?? That's my fav. personally
Holy shit this is amazing.
Great drumming!
How do people even transcribe this !!!
Ishan Dave maybe buy the matt garstka’s lesson pack?
Great Job!
YES!!!
Fkin sick
awesome drumming i use headphones but what do you use,it's much cooler than big headphones
Brilliant
how old were you when you first started playing drums? You're a fab drummer and i really look up to you :) well done, another great cover, hopefully i'll be as good as you one day haha
Awesome
I beg you to try BTBAM stuff !!!! :) Great job!
sounds like matt halpern!!
i seriously love how loose he plays
Where did you get that tank top dude??
I wonder what mics he is using. Anyone have any ideas?
Do you use any kind of grip tape or wax?
Fred Perrys. High roller.
adjust the speed to 1:25 guys!
you should do a breakdown video of that fill at 3:34 *****
The cymbal grab at 0:53 is perfection, in the next few days this will have reached 1 mil views so congrats, dude!
Like A G, I too come from the future to inform you that the video has indeed not only reached '1 mil' views but has proceeded to surpass that mark.
Which one? He squelched 2!
Damn near 2mil views 7 years later, still a great video
One of the best animals as leader covers out there period.
one of the best animals as leaders songs!
F*ck yeah. That is all.
you can cover it to jackie :)
Irhuelz TV i would really like to watch that happen XD
zgabiz95 same here :D
make it real ***** :D pleasee
Yeah, this song is all over the place!
3:35 - 3:39 - BEAST MODE \m/
This is such a tasteful cover! Nice to see you aren't blazing all over it like a few other versions I've seen. Just tight & locked into the grooves. Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Seriosuly, his ability to keep the essence of the track intact while sprinkling in his own flavor is one of my favorite things about him. I almost like this cover a little more than the original, because this mix doesn't feel like a lot of other covers where the track feels turned down with the drums crashing over the top blowing everything else out, but instead simply pulled more forward and pronounced.
Agree
that hi-hat at 0:57 gave me a chub tbh
@Sweet Jones III Independence...
Luke, my favorite part about your drumming is your absolutely riveting use of ghost notes. I honestly don't think any drummer in the world plays ghost notes as beautifully and as crisply as you do, and I love how you play them and seamlessly incorporate them into songs with such a fantastic sense of feel. Your beats and sound always manage to totally astound me in every video you post; you rule!
he plays them well, however, the best imo has got to be troy wright. Check him out, he is an absolute beast on the kit
Thoughts on Matt Halpern from Periphery?
Thoughts on Matt gartska the one who wrote the part?
Travis Orbin.
Scott Miller I agree, his stuff on I Am King's debut is pretty crazy.
Super cool to see you covering more prog stuff! Garstka is a monster, you killed this!
When learning a complicated song like do you break it into small parts and learn each part individually? Or do you just play the whole song through and just perfect things as you play it over and over?
I've never broken a song down. I've always played it whole until it's perfected :)
***** its very good and helpfull see answers like this..thanks Luke..just one question, you mentioned excesive repetition, for example how many times repeat a hard or complex part? Or you just put a time limit? Thx man, keep rocking
mtalmilitia In my experience, when learning something, there's never a minimum on how much you repeat or practice something. Just keep at it until it's perfect. I always learn the patterns, stickings, counts, etc, then put in accents and and dynamics. Just figure out what works for you man!
For me it depends on how hard the song actually is. If theres a lot of ghost notes, bass drum patterns and a lot of fills i like to break it down into sections, but if it's just odd-time signatures and no specific bass drum/hi-hat patterns or ghost notes i just play it through completely until it's perfect.
***** i know, thank you. He already answered by the way ^^^
1:57 probably the easy part.
+Phillip Betts I think is a little bit tough, by the way he breathes, I bet he made some breathing techniques to get prepared for the next part xD
+Phillip Betts Not for the guitarist haha
+Phillip Betts self phyche out time
+Christophe Germain ahaha it's not easy, Tosin hammers on and thumps every note and to play it that fast takes a lot of skill
Christophe Germain the clean part, i have no idea about the part before but it doesn't sound easy
I love the new way more natural sound of your kit!
Dude, those Ghost notes sound like they're being done by a robot with FLAWLESS timing!!
Dat ghosting, doe...
Can someone please tell me what shoes that is he is wearing?
Your the best
Solepaly
those are fred perry kingston twill
Luke, what is impressing me is not essentially the skill you have right now or did a couple of years ago, rather than the progress you've made in the dynamics of your playing and being tight in general. You're playing has gone from being a lot flashy with your fast breaks and blast beats, into very dynamic linear beats and grooves witch fits much better. I just love seeing the progress from your rather sloppy playing in "Cinema" for example (witch I loved btw the first time I saw it two years ago) into this very tight playing. This is the thing that drummers often don't understand at first but begin to realize the longer they play the instrument, it isn't all about being in your face, if it's tight, well played and fits the music, then first it becomes great drumming/playing.
This is so groovy! I wanna see a Volumes cover some day! :D
YES
And now there is one :D
FUCK YES!!!!!
Fool is covering AAL and you're asking him to dumb it down to Volumes.. No hate but come onnnn
thats your opinion, i know the guys in volumes and they kill it at the live performances and this cover surely did it justice
Luke, are you also extremely good with math?
lol i'm wondering that
0:53 this is so cool
+jc matias 03.35 Better :D
+Achraf haddad was just gonna comment this part lol
+Achraf haddad yea this is a hell of a fill, but i just meant the crash grip while playing was cool hahah
jc matias 3:33....
Luke! This sounds great. Awesome job, buddy. Keep it up!
I challenge you to cover a Converge song. Last Light, Vengeance, Fault and Fracture, Thaw, Black Cloud, to name a few great tracks.
THISSSS
They sound like a wannabe Dillinger Escape Plan band.
MJKTool They are older than DEP, and their music is far more abrasive. I really don't think they sound much alike at all.
Dae Dalus It doesn't matter whose older... I just think Dillinger Escape Plan pull off that disjointed whacky time signature style of songs better.
MJKTool I agree, but Converge doesn't really aim for that style...most of their music is just straight up aggressive yet experimental. I'd like to see this Luke Holland guy pull off a drum cover of either band.
Haven't watched this in a while, I also haven't pooped myself in a while. Just did both.
6 years later and I find myself in the same situation, just watching this masterpiece while evacuating
@@henriquemicael2271 😂
That 3:35 fill....so good.
CircuitsandCoffee I thought that was the easiest thing he had to do honestly it sounds awesome but the grooves are so tough!
+Christian Griffis agreed
As hard as it seems
Imma be honest, its on of the most easiest parts of the song
The whole groove is hard
@@crysalistwo189 What is the last part of the fill? RLRLKK?
J K the entire fill is that pretty much.
Being named Luke Holland, have you ever bin to Holland?
BROTHER..... HOLY SHIT THIS WAS COMPLEX AND EXECUTED PERFECTLY. . LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT BRO CAME A LONG WAY FROM WATCHIMG YOU PLAYING WITH YOUR FRIEND RECORDING YOU IN YOUR HOUSE... GOD I THINK I WAS STILL IN HS THEN.. STILL BLOWING MY MIND BUD AWESOME
***** 'sticking' around...
;D
who the fuk gives this down thumbs?!?!
Untalented frustaded bitches
people who think luke is a douche or dont enjoy the music. what a stupid question.
Wow, that's impressive! Now do Dance of Eternity. :)
Still one of the cleanest drum tracks I've ever seen
Matt Garstka is a monster?! And you too!
Interesting fills and improvisation
***** Tooth and Claw would be a sweet cover man. Really anything coming from Matt Garstka is insane.
haha of course its what matt played.. you the man Luke, and i can hear you were going note for note (except for the splash) thats true talent Luke and a super trained ear. well done. Btw matt is the fucking man, no one is writing like he does. NEXT LEVEL SHIT.
Thing I actually like about AAL is that they're consistent with their rhythmic progressions whilst managing to maintain and retain polyrhythms within said progressions. This is a really happy upbeat song, totes didn't make me want to punch a hole in a wall at all, not even at all and that's good because that means less holes in walls to begin with and less holes in walls to begin with makes for a happy family and dog and cyclops and dog who thinks he's a cat. c:
i feel like only drummers can fully appreciate how amazing this video was
You’re a friggin beast dude. Sounds just like Matt. NICE job!
How can anyone thumbs down this video? Or any of your covers for that matter?! Some of the best drumming on RUclips without a doubt! Been a long time watcher and even the pop stuff like Ellie Goulding, you absolutely smash dude! Makes me wanna get better at drumming!
He actually got me into AAL! Met him at a Word Alive concert and he's a really cool guy
His style does seem douchey, so I assume that's why. No one should be hitting it just for that though, the drumming is simply too good.
Consistent and solid throughout. Great job keeping your cool throughout the entire song dude!
thank you for stopping the excessive stick tricks. seriously
What's wrong with stick tricks?
Kiliab Gonzalez i dont like them? do I really need to explain myself to you? if you like them great, good for you, i dont.
***** I wouldnt want to take from your own personal stock.
OOOOOHH GOTTEM.
***** ***** Jesus christ...you guys really showed each other who was boss, right?
@LukeHollandDrums Is 3:37 RLRLKK or something else?
I don't get all the people that comment on your videos in a negative way. You have absolutely phenomenal talent and are an incredible drummer. I only started playing about two years ago or so now and i'm going to be getting some help from a more advanced drummer i know soon to help me grasp more rudiments and more technical time signatures and polyrhythms etc primarily because of how unadvanced i have realised I am watching your skill and how natural it just flows with you. Absolutely killer man, love it
These should be 60fps.
My eyes would of melted off.
+Osiase Simon would've
+N4tur4lb0rnch1ll4 would have*
is that feels per second?
@@jakeclarke4418 lmao
The best cover of physical education 💝
0:28 is possibly the most aesthetically pleasing crash hit I've ever seen.
it was quite lovely
Gotta agree
PLEASE cover some Miss May I songs.. I'd love to see that.. You're fucking awesome dude keep it up!
Love the AAL covers man!!! Do Nephele next!
Are you using the Mike Johnston signature ride now?
3:40 oh man that part is so addicting I love it
Waw!!! thanks for introduce me to that group, i never heard of them and i like progresive very much, how about a cover of King Crimson?? song indiscipline??
Please tell me how to get better at ghost notes I love this song but im not good at them and I have no clue how to progress at it.
Ha figured it out by myself
Noah Papafagos ha! Only took a month, too.
That's how it was for me. Realizing I didn't.t have to be all heavy handed and metal. Then it just clicked
Mitch ZImmerman I know right! Haha I was listening to Volumes cause they have occasional ghost notes, kind of a good basic ghost note rythym, and I was like hey I actually kinda played that! So just took it from there and built off of it.
Noah Papafagos do some rudiments like six stroke rolls. or try studying permutations.
Chino Lim Ahh okay thanks man
Great job, dudeson!
For the record, the pattern of the fill 3:35 I think is:
RllrrllRLRLKK + RLRLKK(x5) + RL (same time)
(R)ide(C)ymbal - (ss) - (ss) - (ss) - (S)nare - (H)igh(T)om - (F)loor(T)om - FT - KK + FT - RC - FT - FT - KK (x2) + S - HT - FT - FT - KK (x2) + FT - FT - FT - FT - KK + S/China (same time)
3:30-3:40 ... nuff said!
The bass drum pedal, and hi-hat stand, what model is that?
Why watch a cover when Matt did a video himself?
Fair enough
This video was uploaded almost 2 years. Matt Gartska uploaded his 8 months ago.
Fair enough.
Can I get you to say fair enough one more time just for the hell of it?
Heh,sure. I didn't realize that's my only answers here, hehe
You should find your own style instead of copying others! Far not good enough even in copying!
3:33 is like .. the physical education of the title as drumnotes. :D I love everything so far but I miss a splash right there..
Those symbols sound so good.
The reason I love "Djent" so much is because of how talented you have to be to play it.
Animals isn't djent tho, it's just straight prog
this band has some crazy technical stuff, how does the band do it and how do you learn it holy fuck
this guys sucks just kidding he actually doesn't suck and he is actually pretty good
Goodness that STACK. It sounds SO SICK. Did you come up with it yourself? It's so beautifully trashy and the sustain is absolutely perfect. It's aggressive and hard but not too much. Favorite stack yet. Probably my favorite youtube drum cover yet. Fantastic job.
Spectacular playing! Clean, crisp, tight and really love the ghost snares. Very few can do it with the feel you have, but you've got it and it's one the money. I'll subscribe. :)
Yo!
I'm not the best drummer, but I nail 1:58 - 2:13 EVERY TIME
First Woven Web, then this... i am so happy :D
So great, absolutely mindblowing :)
Solid cover! Like the mixing on this one better than the last one, too.
som groouver rock muita excelência drum pedal dublo
Hi Luke, I like your haircut, it's so stylish! It's similar to Justin Bieber's look - is that what you were going for? As I've said before, I really wish you would stop playing songs by evil bands like Animals as Leaders, who promote drug use and violence. You haven't done a Justin Bieber cover for a long time. Maybe it's time for a new one?
***** He's been at this kind of thing since I found out about him...around four years ago now? The man's either the most committed troll I know or is completely insane.
He half listened to you
I'm not really into this type of music and I STILL thought this was FANTASTIC!!! I really enjoyed your playing Luke!!
I could seriously watch this all day. So beast. ... That sleeve is well deserved. \m/
Eyes closed just like Matt Garstka. That's Awesome.
