Great video, Sam. Your painting instructions are always helpful. It's extremely helpful to those of us less talented than you to be able to follow along and have step by step instruction, both in your process and in the colors you use to achieve the end result. Your skill at painting AND teaching is one of the reasons I am a patron.
Thank you very much Sam for getting back to me the color mixing in the video was very helpful. I struggle less with Painting and More with color mixing. I like the subtle colors that you add to the mix two tone down. Thank you for the sky mix
You're very welcome Scott. Colour mixing can be tricky but one thing that really helped me is learning the colour wheel and paying attention to the values in the scene you are painting. Values I feel are more important to get right than the colours. You can desaturate a colour by mixing it with its colour opposite on the colour wheel. 😊
Hi Sam, beautiful painting and great teaching as usual! My wife is British... she giggled at the “seagull snatching the pastie” comment 😆 Cheers, John from south Florida
hey Sam! i've watched this video before, but felt i needed it again for the painting i'm working on - sea, rock, sand, palm trees, & sunset/clouds. i've stuck on a rock issue & feel this video helped clarify it for me. tomorrow. it's nearing dinner time & tired of painting for now (believe it or not 🤪🤣). now tomorrow i have a mission! tx!!! love your vids as always, very helpful! 😊👏🤗❤️
in Video 10.57 you change the painting of the water and there is the water completed I for one would have loved to see you doing the water as it is something that I try to do but getting the waves and ripples as movement in the water, so it would be great to see Thanks for your Video All the best...Ned
Hi Neville, sorry about that. It can be difficult to decided what to show and what to leave out of the video. I actually had 7 hours of video footage for this painting but I needed to condense it around 15 minutes. I'll be making more videos on painting water in the future 😊
@@SamuelEarpArtist Thanks for your reply Sam will look forward to seeing how to paint Ripples and Choppy water Yes trying to fit everything in is a challenge I hope you don't mind me bring up things on your painting Videos. All the best Stay well...
Thank you so much Pamela. When I painted this it was intended for this RUclips video however I'll be making more full-length videos on this on these types of landscapes 😊
Thank you! Cobalt teal is a brilliant greenish blue and fairly light in value. It's great for skies, shadows, grass and foliage. It also combines well with quinacridone magenta 😊
Beautiful painting! I’m looking for professional grade brushes and would like to know what brand and type (hairs) you recommend. It’s ok if they are expensive, just want great tools to work with. Thank you.
Thanks Stephen, I have some loose pieces of oil primed linen so this was a home made panel as I am trying to fill up some old odd sized frames I have. Unfortunately I am not the best at making home made panels, this is why I generally use pre made ones 😊
Yes great lessons but the music is not necessary....your brain competes as to what to listen to... Sam maybe post a time lapse as well of your paintings with music....besides the lessons. ...
Hi Steve, sorry about that. I had to buy a new computer as my screen kept getting black lines on my old one, so it means I am getting used to my new computer. The music settings were obviously a little too loud even though I tried to keep it low. I will set it lower next time. 😊
Your picture reminds me of Andrew Tischler's. I watched the video and saw you both use also the same colours. Have studied at the same art scool? Do you know each other? No offence. I subscribed to both of you
Enkaptaton hey, all good, I’m not offended at all. Andrew and I have been friends for years and he mentored me a few years ago. He also used to use the same brand of paint that I am using now. Also many of the colours I use are commonly used by landscape artists as well. Andrew is a great artist, one of the best out there. His work is detailed whereas I am heading more towards looser brush work and less detail. I think it’s good to learn from lots of different artists that inspire you. My art work is inspired by several painters that I like, especially 19th century, plein air painters as well as the beauty of nature. Thanks for subscribing 😊
@@SamuelEarpArtist Oh I totally believe that. So who of you will be the next Albert Bierstadt? Hahaha, seriously some painting like Bierstadt tutorials is what is missing on youtube at the moment. I only found one and it is without speech.

Ha ha, thats awesome. Yes the seagulls in south west England can be very cheeky! Thanks for watching and greetings from New Zealand 😊
I enjoy your videos. You help explain colors and help very much in the mixing of colors area. Thank you

Thanks so much! 😊

Awesome work samuel you are the best
Thank you very much! 😊
I was thinking. Are you gonna make a video about the brushes you use? 😊
Hi Pietro, I will keep this in mind for a video. I explain some of the brushes I am using throughout my videos 😊
Thank you very much Samuel.

@@SamuelEarpArtist its of a navy boat at sea (never painted a boat before) so now have some solid ideas re the clouds n water :)

You promised me Milford Sound painting video.😤😤.
I will get to that, I need to go through my photo reference first 😊

Hi Linda, I would recommend Rosemary and Co. brushes, these are the ones I use and they are very good value for money. They also ship worldwide 😊
I enjoy your videos I have learned a lot from them However, this one suffers from a bad canvas. Lots of vertical lines and bumps
Linen on a panel leads to some magical textures.

I mean... is there something like the New Zealand School comparable to Hudson River School?
New Zealand is a very inspiring country to be a landscape artist in 😊

Mountains need work...my opinion
Thanks for your feedback. I didn't want to over complicate the mountains with too much detail 😊
