Your landscapes prompt us to open our eyes to nature around us more and more often and capture the moment . Why not? Thank you Sam, it would be a waste not to grab what is indeed priceless...!
Many thanks Sam. I previously bought two of your videos and they are brilliant and worth every cent. But thank you for your free videos and so unselfishly sharing your expert knowledge. Love your work.
Hey 👋 Sam, I like how you added cows at the end of the video. I also try to add some sort of living aspect to my paintings; a bird, a goose, people fishing, a surfer, a kayaker, or someone who happens to walk into the scene. Doing so tells a story. I enjoy that. Thanks!! Nice work.
when I subscribed in your channel I saw your touch the same one of Andrew Tischler, and I don't knew that's your friend , so you have both magic touch and amazing artworks , we always enjoy with your nice vedios
Thank you so much Ahmed. Yeah Andrew and I have been friends for years, in fact he mentored me with my own painting. I am eternally grateful to Andrew and he is a brilliant artist 😊
@@SamuelEarpArtist It's great ...! I am also an artist, painter and interior designer I like so much nature and I like to paint landscapes, so I learned many thing from you I hope to meet you and Andrew one day and thank you so much for all.
Hi Sam I'm delighted to see a new landscape painting, I will becin NZ in next few years all going well my family are moving to Wellington cant wait to paint in NZ from Ireland.
Hey, that’s awesome. I used to live in Wellington, it’s a nice city with a great vibe. There are also lots of places to paint there too and it has a vibrant art scene 😊
Thanks Sam, another great video. I do look forward to them. As Angela said earlier, keep repeating your self. Hopefully it becomes second nature when mixing those colours instead of trial and error. Keep up the great work. Bill. 👍😁
Great painting Sam! I appreciate your repetition, dont change! I love how you explain the brushes you use and your detailed descriptions of mixing color. You are an awesome teacher and seem like the kindest person, a perfect mixture and thank you so much for putting these videos out!
Thank you so much. Yeah, being from England myself it took me a few years to get my head around the seasons being in reverse when I moved to New Zealand 😊
Thanks Sam. As always I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I've been more confident mixing my own greens as a result of watching your videos, with the exception of phalo green for an added punch. Take care and thanks again.
Great video, I enjoyed it very much! I'm glad you did the "broken record" thing, because I hadn't seen many of the earlier videos.... and you're right, it's always worth repeating!
Sam, great work again. Also, love the books you have on your desk. Would love to see a video on the other art books you have related to landscapes. All the best!
I found out that the site for filming the shire in Lord of the Rings is located in the north island of New Zeland. I'm not sure how long a drive that would be, but you should probably check it out some time.
Thanks Sam, I always enjoy your tutorials and your videos. I have one question. I use Langridge Transparent Yellow Oxide that seems much darker than your Yellow Oxide. Is there a difference?
Thanks Lonny. Yes there is a difference, yellow oxide is opaque and it's a lighter value colour. I think I have a tube of transparent yellow oxide but I don't often use it. If I were to use it I'd use it as a tinting colour maybe to add a glaze. I have done the same in the past with nickel azo yellow 😊
You inspire me each time I watch to go out and paint. I have benefitted from your method. Thanks! Question...why are "torturer trees" called that? Are they a species of pine?
Thanks Bruce. Totara is native to New Zealand and all the native trees have Maori names. The letter ‘O’ in Maori sounds like an ‘or’ sound. I do my best to pronounce the Maori names properly but myself being from England I often butcher the pronunciations. The Latin name for totara tree is Podocarpus totara. 😊
All of the pochade boxes I use in my videos are hand made by Ben Haggett and they are by far the best and most intuitive pochade boxes I have ever used. They are a joy to paint with. You are paying for the highest quality piece of art equipment that will last you a lifetime 😊
A question for outdoor painting. When I get all set up to do some work outside I start to get overwhelmed with everything around me I get frustrated and end up forcing the paint and quitting on the piece. What can I do beside just paint outside more to bring down the overwhelming feeling? Thank you in advance.
Try bringing a matte the same size as your canvas to use as a viewfinder to look through and isolate the scene you wish to paint. Look through it as often as needed to remind yourself of what to ignore.
@@jeffhreid I am guessing thats what people are doing when they have their hands in a square. I will have to stop at hobby lobby and grab a mat before heading out again thank you very much
Thats a good question. Whenever you paint outdoors you should always simplify the scene you are painting otherwise it can be too overwhelming. Don't be afraid to move things around in your composition or eliminate masses / forms in the scene you are painting. With landscape paintings I always go for the less is more approach. For around the first year when I was painting outdoors I really struggled with it but at the same time I had light bulb moments and I learned loads about painting, composition, colours and values. Just keep painting en plein air, I promise you, you'll learn loads from it and your painting will improve 😊

Winter greens in Sam’s case he’s in the Southern Hemisphere
Many thanks 😊
Thats true Jeff. I am in far north New Zealand and it's a subtropical climate up here so it looks really green even in winter 😊
Ha, thank you for correcting.. I thought Colorado was the best place for plein air painting, ..maybe not, beautiful place, wonderful painting

Winter in August is a strange concept for us northern hemispherians. Painting was great, you are a fantastic teacher. Cheers from Georgia USA. 👍👍👍

Glad it was helpful, yeah I think the best way to learn is through repetition . Thanks for watching 😊
Repetition is very important! The learner is not always ready to hear what you are saying!
Very nice Sam. There is so much depth in that painting that my ears popped from the pressure change. 😜
Thank you so much Jeff 😊
Wow make easily very nice bro 🇳🇵🇳🇵
Thank you so much 😀
Great as usual.
Thank you Kishor 😊
Linda paisagem! Parabéns.

Sam, great work again. Also, love the books you have on your desk. Would love to see a video on the other art books you have related to landscapes. All the best!
Thanks. I will definitely keep that in mind for a video if that is something you’d like to see. Cheers 😊
Great work Sam! Those green rolling hills of Northland never get old. Nice to see the Belly River Lite on it's inaugural plein air outing :)
Many thanks Ben, I really enjoyed painting on it. I'm loving painting these green hills in my local area at the moment 😊
This is so amazing so helpful ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much 😊
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Is this oils or acrylic? I am sorry if I missed it in the description.
Thank you so much Lillian, I painted this in oils 😊

Hello, yes the set for The Shire was filmed in a place called Matamata, it's about a 6 hour drive from where I live
Thank you for your interesting video, the painting is very nice :) bye

Thank you too! 😊
Thanks so much
You're so welcome 😊
Do you have a veltillation system in your studio or do you just keep the windows open when working?
I just open the window at the moment but I need a better ventilation system as sometimes I get headaches
I saw a poshbox on one of your videos and $315.00 is outrageous for so little material used.
