Update- I've since come to the conclusion that Noel will ONLY wear this outfit and use this weapon if you face him after 8 days. When you face him he'll be known as Noel Kreiss+. He'll be a lot stronger than if you faced him before :)
I guess your Noel from FFXIII-2 save data got carried over to LR. Evidently, he uses that weapon with a fal'Cie face which was challenging to earn in FFXIII-2.
Okay here's a few tips for everyone. Use thunder based abilities that will stagger him quicker, use deprotect and deshell to deal more damage. Once Noel is staggered you can LAUNCH him into the air by using physical attacks that get the stagger wave up to the max. He won't stagger again but the wave will go crazy. When it's like that simply hit attack and Lightning will launch him into the air. Using heavy slash whilst he's in the air will make you do massive damage to him making the fight go a lot quicker. Also, if you can perfect guard some of his attacks it'll cause him to stagger too. Good luck
For those on their first playthrough, how close he is to staggering is indicated via the electricity behind the health bar. Do not bother over spamming deprotect or defaith. Equip basic thunder on 2 or 3 schemata. You could also equip something like spark strike on the third. Try to keep one schematas ATB gauge as filled up as possible, this should generally be your damage dealing schemata, but whatever the case use whichever schemata has the most ATB left, use it to turtle shell up with guard when you're running low on the other two ATB gauges, this will give them time to replenish. Make sure to bring potions. I'm not 100% on how you initiate a launch, but if you still have problems, learn how to do that and make sure one of your other schematas has heavy attack which can be used when an opponent is in the air to initiate the "smite" ability for big damage. If all that fails, consider changing your equipment, or possibly buying downloading or otherwise obtaining some new equipment. Good luck.
That's the thing, Yeul keeps dying. It's the entire motivation behind Caius' actions in XIII-2. Also, Noel knew pretty well that Serah didn't care if she died afterward; as long as she got to see Lightning again.
Yeah unfortunately Caius set everything up to the point where he would 'win' whatever the outcome would be. Defeating him would just mean he'd come back since he's immortal due to Etro's heart, so then he'd just continue to fight Lightning in Valhalla. Killing him would mean the collapse of the timeline. Noel and Serah were more or less doomed from the start

I just finished this fight on normal, and you'll get your ass kicked at first. Learn to guard. Stagger is the only way to beat an enemy. You will lose.
what i have heard is that what noel is seeing is a different future where if he defeats lightning he would get to see yuel again. (this might not be true)

I really don't understand this battle system. I beat Noel but it was a 10 min fight, awarding a no-star rating. So apparently I did something completely wrong but there are only so much options as far as abilities go so early in the game O_o

I posted an update comment saying that his costume changes based on how many days pass. It will go into his guardian costume after 6 days. Not w/e one is equipped in XIII-2 (: I'm not sure if the save data works cross region. Usually it doesn't work. I can't say 100% for sure though. No worries I've actually got the final boss up already and I'll be doing my 'Let's play' part for the boss battle next week some time

Might I suggest upgrading to a more powerful blade? perhaps Immortal Order or Heaven's Cloud, both in which I posses... I am an extreme stats and equipment hunter, so do you know if you get better or different weapons from defeating him after a certain day?
damn what i dont like about this is the overclock system, the boss battle becomes more easier especially when you the cloud outfit, with the combo goes like this knockout -> overclock -> spam the most damage with the cloud outfit -> when overlock runs out, use overclock again and attack using cloud outfit -> do all this step and battle finish hope i'm wrong though
I've seen the easy mode playthroughs, It's annoying and ruins any challenge. The bosses are tougher in Normal Mode and GP abilities cost more. So you can't just spam them
I actually felt that Noel was really easy. He uses physical attacks and I just used an accessory on one of my garbs that reduced physical damage by 75% in exchange for any attack capability. I used that whenever I wasn't attacking him and he didn't do much damage and did no damage when I guarded.
His first version is easy, it's only the '+' version which is hard on your first playthrough. On new game+ the harder version Noel isn't that hard either (:

How far can you extend the in-game clock and what is the best way to do so? Also can you switch around weapons and shields across each schemata (like the buster sword and gauntlet can go to the default schemata or one of the other)?
You start off with 6 days, by doing the main quests you can extend it by 5 extra days easily then if you do like a total of 45 sidequests you can extend it up to 14 days. Although it might be 100 I'm not sure, it's either 45+ sidequests + Prayer-board requests to take your total quests up to 100. Or just 45 sidequests from people around the world. Sorry to be vague there lol. Either way 14 days is the max you can get but you can go into new game+ with everything carried over- abilities, weapons, shields, outfits etc
Cool, I'll be keeping that in mind thank you. This may be a silly question but, schematas are only one right? Does that mean the weapons and shield are just one too? Or can you create multiples of them (I really don't like the looks of the big shields)?

Was yours the 'Noel Kreis+' or just 'Noel Kreis'? The '+' version has 860,000 HP. Where as his weaker version will only have about 240,000 hp I think. Noel Kreiss+ is generally recommended to be fought on new game+ but I did it on my first run ^^; Yeah the garb was the DLC Cloud (:
Does noel's outfit and weapon depend on what outfit and weapon you have him wearing in XIII-2? The noel i fought had both Odin weapon but his default outfit.
I have to agree with you that the battles, even on normal mode, are challeging! I couldn't beat noel and the monster of holy clavis when you fight along fang... I could only beat the chocobo eater on the third try... In the end I've recieved game over and second chance, and now I have to restart playing the game again back to luxerion... I am starting to get the hang of this new battle system... You have to always have a great amount of ATB of every schemata and be fast like lighting to hit the enemy... Also you have to keep your eyes always watching the enemy's movements...
Noel Kreiss+ and Snow Villiers+ appear on day 8 and onwards. Snow Villiers++ appears on Day 10 and onwards The Dead Dunes boss becomes a "+" (Grendel becomes Parandus) on day 8 The Wildlands boss remains the same

FunKyba1 Your first encounter with him must be after 8 days, he will then appear as Noel Kreiss+ facing him before will put you against the normal Noel and finish up his side of the story so you wont be able to face him again until new game+ for Snow you need to fight him after 6 days for Snow Villiers+ or 10 days for Snow Villiers++. Again, facing him before those days will result in fighting the normal Snow and progressing his story so you wont be able to fight him again until new game+. Hope this makes sense. This was my very first playthrough and I fought Noel Kreiss+, so it can be done on any playthrough, normal, easy or hard.
Hard mode is unlocked after you complete the game. I think the recommended way to play the game is...Easy mode -> Normal Mode ( for New Game+) -> Hard mode to challenge yourself. Normal is a pretty damn hard mode too start off with xD

She only fights two of them. SHe fights Noel because Noel has become convinced that he has to full the prophecy where he kills Lightning. In the prologue SNow was testing Lightning to see if she was the real one or a fake Bhunivelze constructed (in a light novel we are told that a fake Lightning trapped Hope and all the Academia researchers in the Ark, after this Hope was tortured for over a hundred years and his emotions were destroyed). Once he knows it is the real Lightning he waits for her so he could use his l'cie powers to destroy the chaos and Lightning would kill his CIe'th form before it killed anyone. Those are the two friends she fights,and the two have good reasons for it.
Speaking of which do you have to have to download the outfits because I have the x-box versionss of the first two games and I don't have x-box live at the moment? Or do they just unlock if you have the save files?
they should unlock automatically. If you check out part 2 of my playthrough at the start of it I go over where the costumes are located so that you can use them (if it's not that part then it's part 3)
he's weak to thunder-based moves, so use attacks like sparkstrike and thundara/thunder to stagger him quickly. You can also use deprotect and deshell to get more damage on him. Other than that, wait for the stagger, then use attack and heavy slash to deal a lot of damage and also use overclock if you have to. Hope this helps. Learn the fight and when to counter and you should be good :)
get new weapon slow down time and keep doing quests it should help you a lot oh and trying extincting a monster species you'll get great items that way
you know what bothers me about lightning returns as a whole. They honestly want me to believe that in 500 years not one person could do ANYTHING to stop impending doom? nobody? not one person...only lightning is the special snowflake that could do absolutely anything? really....I didn't even like lightning in ff13. only thing she ever did that I enjoyed was punch the hell out of that hulking moron Snow. That's it. poor Serah. She was a great character ff13-2. I'm sad that her roles in ff13 and LR got diminished into support roles...and just barely at that. totally broke my heart when I got to the end of 13-2. That game was good. it had great elements and I enjoyed the direction they had been going and then they totally went back around the bend to ass hole bitch and got stupid on me. someone though way to highly of Lightning as a character when she is sub par at best. My battle party consisted of Fang, Sash, and Hope all through FF13 because everyone else was cringe worthy in the American version. ugh...I'm sure if I had the chance to play the Japanese version I would feel differently as I hear Vanielle is less provocative and Sazh is super whiney and Light is more likeable? and Dang is totally forgettable but...in the US version it got a little messed up. Vanille is a total slut, Sazh isn't awful, Fang is amazing, Snow is an idiot but brave, Hope is a classic origin story to a comic book hero, and Lightning is....a bitch. she is really cool at what she does but her personality just screams bitch until the story gets close to the end. but that is my opinion. I liked her better as a support character in FF13-2

I've gone back and looked at many PS3 games, and they look like utter shit! Games I thought looked good like MGS4, Sniper V2/V3, Far Cry 2, Battlefield 3, they all look terrible when put up against anything new?
Well, the logic behind consoles is to be a solid game station for many years, so companies can have time to develop games and can stick to a hardware limit (because if the consoles were totally renewed each year, they just wouldn't finish a normal game, imagine a long one). PS3 came around 2006-2007 (?), but obviously, by 2010's it was fair possible to surpass its capacity (although it would be really expensive to sell that new technology then). Specially games from companies that invest a lot on graphics, they stick to the hardware limits, and, as consoles last many years, they do seem like old technology sometimes when the next generation comes forth. Lightning Returns is like one of the last "big titles" games on PS3 (I'd say Persona 5 may be the last one). But you can see, compared to 2014 PS4 games, Lightning Returns, who crearly keeps many renders from the original XIII (which must have been made around 2006-2008), looks somehow ageed, indeed. Not on a laptop screen, but in a big TV like those you'd buy to play in PS4, you would see there are many blurry textures.
Noel's the main character of XIII-2 with Serah. As for Lightning being the worst character ever how about you go and play the games because you clearly haven't. Smh...

finally got the game and played it all day yesterday and I can't for the love of me get a single star for this battle lol any tips?
Just learn the fights unfortuntately. I recommend saving before all the bosses so you don't lose time (if you're playing on normal mode of course :P)

Scene drive = Army of One. You get it on the 8th day from Hope. Just press L2/LT to activate it whilst in Overclock

Does noel's outfit and weapon depend on what outfit and weapon you have him wearing in XIII-2? The noel i fought had both Odin weapon but his default outfit.
Noel will have what he had in 13-2. Noel+ will have the weapon/clothes that you see in this video.
So. . . The battle system is similar to X-2's dress system and FFXV's Class system. . . Wonderful.
I have to agree with you that the battles, even on normal mode, are challeging! I couldn't beat noel and the monster of holy clavis when you fight along fang... I could only beat the chocobo eater on the third try... In the end I've recieved game over and second chance, and now I have to restart playing the game again back to luxerion...
I am starting to get the hang of this new battle system... You have to always have a great amount of ATB of every schemata and be fast like lighting to hit the enemy... Also you have to keep your eyes always watching the enemy's movements...

Are you finding all of these garbs and weapons/shields from stores? Or just in treasure chests/ enemy drops?
besides dlc garbs you'll get some garbs in quests some in shops
IDEA if noel is in this costume cuz of xiii 2 give him the weakest weapon possible on a new save for an easy fight

Where do you can fight the '+' bosses? Does it have to be in normal mode or what...? I want to kill the + bosses
Noel Kreiss+ and Snow Villiers+ appear on day 8 and onwards.
Snow Villiers++ appears on Day 10 and onwards
The Dead Dunes boss becomes a "+" (Grendel becomes Parandus) on day 8
The Wildlands boss remains the same

FunKyba1 Your first encounter with him must be after 8 days, he will then appear as Noel Kreiss+ facing him before will put you against the normal Noel and finish up his side of the story so you wont be able to face him again until new game+ for Snow you need to fight him after 6 days for Snow Villiers+ or 10 days for Snow Villiers++. Again, facing him before those days will result in fighting the normal Snow and progressing his story so you wont be able to fight him again until new game+. Hope this makes sense. This was my very first playthrough and I fought Noel Kreiss+, so it can be done on any playthrough, normal, easy or hard.

Hard mode is unlocked after you complete the game. I think the recommended way to play the game is...Easy mode -> Normal Mode ( for New Game+) -> Hard mode to challenge yourself. Normal is a pretty damn hard mode too start off with xD

She only fights two of them. SHe fights Noel because Noel has become convinced that he has to full the prophecy where he kills Lightning. In the prologue SNow was testing Lightning to see if she was the real one or a fake Bhunivelze constructed (in a light novel we are told that a fake Lightning trapped Hope and all the Academia researchers in the Ark, after this Hope was tortured for over a hundred years and his emotions were destroyed). Once he knows it is the real Lightning he waits for her so he could use his l'cie powers to destroy the chaos and Lightning would kill his CIe'th form before it killed anyone.
Those are the two friends she fights,and the two have good reasons for it.

Speaking of which do you have to have to download the outfits because I have the x-box versionss of the first two games and I don't have x-box live at the moment? Or do they just unlock if you have the save files?
they should unlock automatically. If you check out part 2 of my playthrough at the start of it I go over where the costumes are located so that you can use them (if it's not that part then it's part 3)

he's weak to thunder-based moves, so use attacks like sparkstrike and thundara/thunder to stagger him quickly. You can also use deprotect and deshell to get more damage on him. Other than that, wait for the stagger, then use attack and heavy slash to deal a lot of damage and also use overclock if you have to. Hope this helps. Learn the fight and when to counter and you should be good :)

how the fuck m i suppose to beat any fucking boss if i have atb restriction this is a shitty game and the worst game ive ever played
you know what bothers me about lightning returns as a whole. They honestly want me to believe that in 500 years not one person could do ANYTHING to stop impending doom? nobody? not one person...only lightning is the special snowflake that could do absolutely anything? really....I didn't even like lightning in ff13. only thing she ever did that I enjoyed was punch the hell out of that hulking moron Snow. That's it. poor Serah. She was a great character ff13-2. I'm sad that her roles in ff13 and LR got diminished into support roles...and just barely at that. totally broke my heart when I got to the end of 13-2. That game was good. it had great elements and I enjoyed the direction they had been going and then they totally went back around the bend to ass hole bitch and got stupid on me. someone though way to highly of Lightning as a character when she is sub par at best. My battle party consisted of Fang, Sash, and Hope all through FF13 because everyone else was cringe worthy in the American version. ugh...I'm sure if I had the chance to play the Japanese version I would feel differently as I hear Vanielle is less provocative and Sazh is super whiney and Light is more likeable? and Dang is totally forgettable but...in the US version it got a little messed up. Vanille is a total slut, Sazh isn't awful, Fang is amazing, Snow is an idiot but brave, Hope is a classic origin story to a comic book hero, and Lightning is....a bitch. she is really cool at what she does but her personality just screams bitch until the story gets close to the end. but that is my opinion. I liked her better as a support character in FF13-2
Is it just me, or do all of these Ps3 games look way shittier than when I left them? They all look like Beta Models and have weird movements. It's not just this game. I've gone back and looked at many PS3 games, and they look like utter shit! Games I thought looked good like MGS4, Sniper V2/V3, Far Cry 2, Battlefield 3, they all look terrible when put up against anything new?
Well, the logic behind consoles is to be a solid game station for many years, so companies can have time to develop games and can stick to a hardware limit (because if the consoles were totally renewed each year, they just wouldn't finish a normal game, imagine a long one). PS3 came around 2006-2007 (?), but obviously, by 2010's it was fair possible to surpass its capacity (although it would be really expensive to sell that new technology then). Specially games from companies that invest a lot on graphics, they stick to the hardware limits, and, as consoles last many years, they do seem like old technology sometimes when the next generation comes forth. Lightning Returns is like one of the last "big titles" games on PS3 (I'd say Persona 5 may be the last one). But you can see, compared to 2014 PS4 games, Lightning Returns, who crearly keeps many renders from the original XIII (which must have been made around 2006-2008), looks somehow ageed, indeed. Not on a laptop screen, but in a big TV like those you'd buy to play in PS4, you would see there are many blurry textures.
I hope lightning dies at the end of the game she is the worst character ever!
