Caius will always be the best imo. His anger was righteous, and he was evil by a nessecity, for love, not for power or because of insanity. I really feel for him. He was never a pushover. Every other boss had a trick or was easy with enough grinding. Caius was always a pain in the ass. I feel bad for those who never played the last two games. They really missed out on a gem of a villain.
Caius is the second best villain in the FF series (and no Kefka should be at the bottom). He, as well as Sephirot, actually have reasonable motivations but Cauis has more charisma and emotional strength. Sephirot may seem to be crazy but he is actually rather rational after having been crazy >_< if that is rational. Too bad that XIII series was good at the emotional level but not much more. XIII series (which I have platinumed all) was to much focus on emotional sensations than actually having a good story presented in a good way and not just a flashy one (FF XV suffers the same fate). I never understood the need to change so much between the games. Time travel was a weird choice and the time merge in lightning returns even stranger. Everything they did after XIII seemed to only complicate the story rather than actually explains and did not feel that natural. It always seemed like they took the easy way out. They could have a much better explanation and they should have made Caius the presented villain in all of the games (and not just a main "side quest" after he actually won in FF XIII-2 and never was the endgame boss). It is very pretty but most of the gameplay is lacking (the farming monsters to extinction in XII lightning returns was awful, the pokemon in XII-2 and the grind quests as "free roaming" in XIII). The games are dear to my heart with Lightning and Caius being favorite characters (as well as Cloud, Squall, and Sephiroth) and the games get much unjust hate. In the end, I cannot really recommend these games unless you are a hardcore Jrpg or FF fan.
Even though its countless Yeuls' desires that prevents Caius from finally attaining his eternal rest, he still intends to spend that unlife keeping those Yeuls company in the Chaos outside of the new world. You have to admit, this man is certainly a devoted guardian.
Caius character is without a doubt the best thing about the FF XIII trilogy. the trilogy it got some good things, some bad things, but he really stands apart as something special, and i really love this first one and a half minute leading into the final fight with him. Not every day the villain destroys the world, and the heroes have to go home (or to a new world) empty handed. Also as someone who has tried healing in MMOs, that last "I can't save someone who doesn't wanna to be saved" before she leaves has been something i told myself many times as people stand in the fire.
This is why Sephiroth or any other villians in ff can never defeat Caius. He is not only immortal, he is the only villian that wins all the protagonists in ff series. even against a grim reaper goddess like lightning, he won all the battles. The most intriguing part about him as a villian is that he is actually the most tragic villian in the ff series.
The funny part is that Caius was designed precisely as an antagonist to surpass previous ones like Sephiroth. When the team tasked the composers for Caius' theme they especifically told them to make a song that represented his status as the strongest antagonist of the series. And he technically is,he was never defeated, his plan was never twarthed and in the end his wish was granted.
My biggest gripe is it took three games to get to this. The first to games would have been so much better with this. Starting to wonder if this was outsourced. Is FF15 like this?
Still however wished the rest of the game was normal. Kinda looks like the story writers and people in charge of the battle system didn't see eye to eye.
Vayne? Hahaha, no he had no trauma or forfeited destiny like the others. If you mean his destiny in the Endfight, no. He manipulated, killed, and setted this decisions. He died as inhuman. But nevertheless one of the more realistic villians. FF12 will be ever my absolute Favorite Game of all the Time! And one thing: EMET-SELCH FROM FF14!
Yeah, the one Yuel who wants something else. I believe the novel of FFXIII-2 about Yuel explains that the reason Noel was trained to be Yuel's final Guardian was because Yuel told Caius to allow her final incarnation to be free to do what she wanted and that Yuel ended up befriending Noel. This was done because that Yuel saw a vision of her future self being happy with a boy who would free her and give her a happy life.
By far the greatest villain in the FF series and btw one of the hardest final bosses in the entire series (I mean his Jet Bahamut fight at the end of ff13-2).
I remember first getting up to this fight. Was so hyped they gave us that run back match between them. Honestly feel he's the best rival she could have. Epic fight and the theme to match.
I hated this fight. It took me forever to beat him and when I did I was SO HAPPY that I didn't have to do it again. I got his weapon as well, which made me even happier. His characters great, but the fight is insanely hard.
@emma cooney stock some element attack skills on a suitable garb and consider using Jump and a garb that gives a buff when switching to it. These recommendations come from the official guide book. Main thing is to stagger him quickly and bring plenty of recovery items because you probably won't perfect guard his opener.
What a fight! It's a pleasure to watch it! FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns were a true reconciliation with Final Fantasy for me...in my humble opinion...
+erefxul Caius made those game Imo ! but i felt like something was underdevelopped because his only quest was to prevent the death of Yeul like Noel wanted but that was all! he was more the Anti-hero than the bad guy!
Caius won that part, hands down, he's slinging around 4th and 5th tier spells like Surge, Freeze, Tornado, Inferno and Flare like its nobodies business.
When a boss very difficult in his original game comes back in the sequel you understand that life hates you ( Seriously: i've spent DAYS in tryingto defeat him)
I spend my day too 😂😂 I forgot what pain in the ass he was 😂😂 I run into it but he was dealing to much damage, so i go for side quest, Chocolina's side quest, and made a little trip to Yusnaan to get Vital Guard, more Styles, and trying to defeat Snow for stats improvement, i finally end by being late to the show so i return to try again and i beat him with luck 😂😂
+LionelBreaux I beat him first try but it was still difficult. Saved him for last but the victory was narrow due to him spamming his Flare, Surge and stuff. My tank Light had a hard time containing but I had to look for an opening and it was the difference. The key is mostly mitigating damage when he starts throwing ultimate magic at you (it's easy to do so with a physical tank the first half of the fight as he gives more openings) and rationing healing items (I realize this is hard as his attacks do massive amounts even when guarding with a tank). When I leveled the fight was when I realized his spells took forever.
I have a theory how how Noel ended up in Valhalla at the end of his own time the destruction of happened in 700 AF so it does not mean that Nova Crystalis blew up in 500af that's how the other Noel ended up in Valhalla of the past got swept up in the chaotic energy and sent to the Past that's why he doesn't remember how he got there is an active result of the chaotic energies and the destruction of Nova crystallis but in 500af shouldn't be the two Caius Ballad and Noel Kreiss talk about the ultimate Paradox headache
Fuyush I felt that way too. Always had mixed feelings about Caius. On one hand, I thought that he had too many plot contrivances helping him out for his goals in XIII-2 and that he had a bunch of powers that didn't really feel properly justified or were overly convenient for him to have. On the other hand, Liam O'Brien is one of my favorite VAs and I loved how he handled this role of Caius. And then, as you noted, this was an amazing boss battle. I'd agree with you with the whole "best boss fight in the whole trilogy" sentiment. Its also in my mind the key moment of my entire play through of Lightning Returns that stands out as the highlight of the game.
The trick is to try and max out your DPS with Cloud's Buster Sword and his outfit in a paradigm, then when he get's to half hp just keep overclocking after a stagger to kill him before he can proc his heart of chaos.

I conclude that doing a whole blind run through of this game on the first try is impossible. Those side quests takes so much time if it's your first time without using any guides. I sadly have to use some guides of the side quests on my first try. My first run through I couldn't beat any boss because on the last two days they've grown much stronger. 2nd run through was flawless. Killing those main quests boss like nothing and learned how to use Chronostasis all the time while fighting monsters for replenishing the EP gauge. (Sigh) It was already too late at that point.
It's just about time management and using resources wisely. If a sidequest is taking too long, do something easier or the main quests instead. And while you're at it, actually fight battles. Most importantly, get EP to stop time. Some monsters give 2EP for winning, so if you perfect a strategy for each one, you can keep time stopped for a ridiculous amount of time while exploring and doing other things. This is all easily figured out on a blind run.

And here I am, underleveled as fuck with Megaflare automatically 1-hit-KO'ing me unless I guard (none of my schematas have more than 4000 hp). Wish me luck?
abb21a It took me 50 attempts, but I managed. It was simply impossible unless I timed most of his hard hitting attacks right, and I needed to conserve ATB for my defending schema so I can be ready for any long ass streak of damage.
Lol, his damn sword appears in the bridge that connect. In fact when you finish the battle you are outside if I remember well and the sword is just in the middle of the bridge.
I cannot defeat him for the life of me. Is it because my hp is too low? I've watched another person on RUclips fight him and his hp was in the 5000s as well. And I only have 4100.
I decided to play on normal for my first run on pc and have been regretting it in the Temple. I'm generally out of EP by the time I get to Caius and is opening move always gets me. I can end up out of healing items before the second part of the fight where he buffs and heals himself. Tight corridors and rusty flans are not a pleasant combination.
She's no expert at talk-no-jutsu and her new power literally will not grab souls with a lingering regret or attachment to their old life. Naruto on the other hand is a shonen protagonist and thus a master if the art.
why wasting atb on -ga spells, should using -ra grade spell to chain stagger rate, and using 100% rate resistance but use -ra grade also to chain the rate.
the legendary creator hironobu sakaguchi...producer and director like shinji hashimoto, yoshinori kitase, takeshi nozue, tetsuya nomura..the legendary writer kazushige nojima and composer nobuo uematsu....they all had an idea to make FF universe to life...but look to creator of FFXII's akitoshi kawazu and this FFX-2 , FFXIII's motomu toriyama....they're not in a league like them...it's like playing a games with a FF label...after this i will buy FF games according to their producer and writer.....
Sakaguchi and Kitase were basically polar opposites after FFVI. In fact, Sakaguchi had almost nothing to do with six, seven or eight beyond being in the credits in name only. Those three games are exclusively Kitase's babies. FFIX would be the last Final Fantasy Sakaguchi even gave two shits about. From the on the series kind of went back and forth between Kitase and several other directors, with Sakaguchi basically leaving during the creation of FFXII and famously been known to have not even TRIED the game at all (which shows how much of a crap he gave about the series by that point). So yeah, maybe you should learn the reasons behind the changes between staff before speaking. For example Sakaguchi washed his hands away from the series after he assigned Kitase as head Producer and director, famously saying once that he felt like he "handed the torch" to him, meaning he no longer was getting involved with those games. And Kitase has been the chief producer for the series ever since, so if you want to blame someone, you could blame Kitase for giving Toriyama, Nojima and Nomura free reign over the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga.
It feels kinda strange on my first playthrough I beat all main quests before 8 Day and finished all side quests but 2 (one I didn't realize you had to do before main quest when fighting snow) before the final day and killed off all but 5 of the creatures that one can make "extinct" all without getting any DLC's other than what you get from playing FFXIII 2 I think i may play to many RPG's if I've been doing things you people think is practically impossible. lol (only boss that really killed me was Caius first time I battled him)
REMiNiOS_KillERiTY Or deprorect, artemis arrows and overclock. Easy win and i would spend less ep than elementa. And why get yuna when you get elementa in endgame.
Lightning: Hey y'all so the world is gonna fucking explode in 13 days so will you join my cause and not die? Snow: My bb is dead and some weirdo doppelganger won't leave me alone. Fuck off. I have one question.
How does this voice actor go from this to fucking Lloyd from Code Geass...
Did they change Caius's voie? He didnt sound like Gaara anymore, and that saddens me.
nope, and his voice is the same as before
Felipe Silva
Thanks! Yeah i think its just the speakers on my computer. Because i finished this battle a bit after my comment and he sounded fine.

What track is this? I can't find it on the soundtrack

And here I am, underleveled as fuck with Megaflare automatically 1-hit-KO'ing me unless I guard (none of my schematas have more than 4000 hp). Wish me luck?
u can guard it if you time it right lol
abb21a It took me 50 attempts, but I managed. It was simply impossible unless I timed most of his hard hitting attacks right, and I needed to conserve ATB for my defending schema so I can be ready for any long ass streak of damage.
where is this map?
finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Caius_Ballad_(Lightning_Returns_boss)
where is the sword??
I beat him twice and there is no sword infront of me. WHY?????
Lol, his damn sword appears in the bridge that connect. In fact when you finish the battle you are outside if I remember well and the sword is just in the middle of the bridge.
Yoongi is my bias ON THE BRIDGE
Love you too ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌 👌👌 👌👌 👌👌 👌👌 👌👌 👌👌 👌 you too ❤️
Love you too ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Final fantasy xlll-2 😍 😍♥️ you too ❤️
I cannot defeat him for the life of me.
Hardest story boss in the game by far
just use yuna elementage star to kill him off
zxn6869 OR GET ELEMENTA LVL 4 FOR FREE IN ENDGAME.
he is wasting atb on -ga spells, he should using -ra grade spell to chain stagger rate.

Change my mind. :)
Lightning: I can't save anyone who don't want to be saved.
Naruto(trying to save sasuke) : Am I a joke to you?
She's no expert at talk-no-jutsu and her new power literally will not grab souls with a lingering regret or attachment to their old life. Naruto on the other hand is a shonen protagonist and thus a master if the art.
why wasting atb on -ga spells, should using -ra grade spell to chain stagger rate, and using 100% rate resistance but use -ra grade also to chain the rate.
wore battle i ever seen lol
the legendary creator hironobu sakaguchi...producer and director like shinji hashimoto, yoshinori kitase, takeshi nozue, tetsuya nomura..the legendary writer kazushige nojima and composer nobuo uematsu....they all had an idea to make FF universe to life...but look to creator of FFXII's akitoshi kawazu and this FFX-2 , FFXIII's motomu toriyama....they're not in a league like them...it's like playing a games with a FF label...after this i will buy FF games according to their producer and writer.....
It feels kinda strange on my first playthrough I beat all main quests before 8 Day and finished all side quests but 2 (one I didn't realize you had to do before main quest when fighting snow) before the final day and killed off all but 5 of the creatures that one can make "extinct" all without getting any DLC's other than what you get from playing FFXIII 2 I think i may play to many RPG's if I've been doing things you people think is practically impossible. lol (only boss that really killed me was Caius first time I battled him)
easiest boss
Spira Summoner - Elementa *
spam it, up until you out of that ATB, Overclock, spam again, and again until he dies
ez
thanks for the tip , helped me destroy caius very easily , i just had to wait 2 hours for the next day so i had a full overclock bar
REMiNiOS_KillERiTY Or deprorect, artemis arrows and overclock. Easy win and i would spend less ep than elementa. And why get yuna when you get elementa in endgame.
This is the only good part of this entire game. *sob* If only the rest of it had been this good.
Lightning: Hey y'all so the world is gonna fucking explode in 13 days so will you join my cause and not die?
Snow: My bb is dead and some weirdo doppelganger won't leave me alone. Fuck off.
Noel: I like 15 year old girls, I'm gonna kill you so I can be with one.
Caius: Lol, salty?
Lightning: Fuck this. *fights bhunivelze and fails miserably.*
*8 attempts later...*
Lightning: Alright ya fuckers, don't care what you want, FUCKING DIE AND GO INTO MY BOOB CRYSTAL!
Hasagi!!!!
