@@jamesharding9252 All true, but there's still a lot of unfairness and BS in the movie industry. In the movie _Operation Crossbow,_ Sophia Loren received co-star billing even though she also appeared for only a few minutes.
I'm half convinced that they gave the guys a basic script for these scenes but told them that they could improvise some parts. the Bond Quips like writing on the wall, the pen, the writing is on the wall with them on edge of cracking up. it feels like at times they have this serious script made for the scene, but they were given some leeway to have fun with it.
Brosnan is the true James Bond: very english, elegant, incredibly handsome and charismatic, with a sense of humor while all the time you could not treat him not seriously because you could feel you had to do with a specialist. That's pure class. Craig was good but his character was not really Bond. Just a great special agent like many others.
I’d argue that Craig started out very much like Brosnan’s Bond. Lighter hearted, witty and optimistic. The difference is that Craig’s bond had something Brosnan’s didn’t: continuity. Different Bond films may as well have happened in their own standalone universe for all intents and purposes. Each ended with Bond hooking up with a different woman. But in Craig’s, the only time that happens is at the end of Spectre, and we see it carry over to No Time to Die. In previous Bond films, every ‘Bond girl’ who died was typically forgotten quickly and the effect of their deaths never carried over. Vesper Lynd’s in Casino Royale carried over four films after the fact. So did Craig Bond’s development from a trusting and idealistic new agent to a gritty, wounded animal of a man who closed himself off because of loss and betrayal. So I argue that Craig’s Bond wasn’t doing dark…he was too real.
Brosnan's natural charisma and mastery of facial expressions made his version of Bond unforgettable... Some like to criticize the supposed "emptiness" of his character, but I find some of his quiet moments quite believable. He's levels above so called "acting" of today's Hollywood.
For some people he’s a great bond for some he is not. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. we have been lucky to have some of the most dedicated gentleman play this role of the British spy. I don’t think there has been a bad bond but you prefer who you prefer and I think it at least has a lot to do with who we grew up on. I know classic bond fans are not going to view goldeneye and Pierce brosnan films in a high regard because they grew up on Connery or others who came before. It has to do with our perspective, and what we grew up watching.
Pierce was an excellent choice for James Bond and I will forever miss Desmond Llewelyn. He made 'Q' such a memorable character much the same as John De Lancie did in another franchise.
Nothing beats the comedic jesture between Q and James Bond It's like Brosnan's Bond made Q laugh for the very first time in the Bond series where he said the there's a writing on the wall with him in it
A lot of impressive long takes and camera movements in this scene. The background gags really play well because of it. This is very good filmmaking, very talented crew.
I read somewhere that Q (Desmond) had trouble with his lines at this point in his career and the crew had to have cue cards in every scene. You can see his eyes reading behind Bond at certain moments. That had to add some complexity to this whole thing.
Desmond Llewelyn was very pleasant and so irreplaceable as the #1 best Q in the 007 series. I don’t know how I would picture James Bond being without someone who’s very good at being a great technological wizard but with the same fatherly and collected charm of Llewelyn’s portrayal.
was the car even used at all in the movie? or was it the car used in the scene when bond and natalya were driving in cuba to meet jack wade for the plane?
Yep, literally drove it up to meet Wade and swapped him for his plane. Dunno why they even bothered shipping the car to Cuba. Guess they were just testing BMW out as a partner. Tommorow never Dies made good use of the 7 Series and the R1200 Motorcycle.
This is my favorite bond / Q scene from the series. Fun, light-hearted banter, and the initial transition into the parachute exploding from the car sets a perfect tone for all the rest of the random stuff in the lab.
"Need I remind you, 007, that you have a license to kill, not to break the traffic laws." Best Q line ever. There's just something so..._British_ about it.
I would have to say that out of all the James Bond films involving Q, portrayed by the late-Desmond Llewellyn, this particular scene is my favorite. I even like the ending of this clip in which James Bond inspects the sandwich before it's grabbed out of his hands by Q. @@1AstralKing he was a mix of the best of all Bonds.
Considering his time as Remington Steele and having previous Bond actors before him as a reference, by the time he became 007, he was well armed for the job.
@@TheEman590 and he came with all arms loaded.
1:40 My fave Bond gadget - the scene where it's held by Boris is a masterclass in suspense that Hitchcock would've been proud of.
Indeed :) One of the best scenes in the whole franchise.
Tho one thing's been bothering me ever since the first time I saw this. Is it only me or did it take Q more than 4 seconds to disarm the pen after Bond armed it in this scene? I count at least 5 full seconds between Bond's 3rd click and Q's 3rd click. I know it's probably nitpicking hard but still a detail I cannot unsee anymore.
Loonatic Blue Bond finished arming it at 1:53. Q began disarming it at 1:56 right when he grabbed it. Most of the clicks were out of the shot.
*" They always say pen was mightier than sword, thanks to me they were right! "*
Indiana Jones 3
the pen is not mightier than the sword
sword is bigger and sharper
I nearly forgot, it's against company policy to sign endorsements!
SIGN IT!
@@kleetus92 Would you please sign here, Mr Bond? It's the insurance waiver for your *pitiful* new car
@@ahha6304 : It's the insurance damage waiver for your beautiful new car. Now, will you need collision coverage?
Yes.
Fire?
Probably.
Property destruction?
Definitely.
Personal Injury?
I hope not, but accidents do happen.
They frequently do with you.
2:18 Lol it looks like Desmond broke character with that laugh... Piece has a smirk on his face also but got serious again.
He also didn't know the girl was going to get ejected towards the end of the scene, That look he gave was genuine surprise lol
The old Q is the best that ever happened to the James Bond series. Not to bad mouth the younger one though, who is fun as well.
I was happy they brung the character back for Skyfall.
1:39 Watch closely how the Q makes only the 2 clicks at first not noticing that he hasnt started the fuse, but the 2nd time did 3 clicks assuming he had turned it off, James noticed and instantly turned it off after his 3 clicks
The Chemistry between these two were amazing...
Desmond Llewellyn is the definitive Q! No one can do this role better than him. R.I.P. Desmond Llewellyn. ;(
The way he looks at that sandwich like it's a gadget or something 😄
i love how Bond just impulsively picks it up and starts examining it lol
Would you really put it past Q to design something like that
@@GrosvnerMcaffrey No.
After all, the guy made a Tea Saucer into a launched Guillotine.
If you watch Q carefully, he is reading his lines off of "Q" cards. Camera shots were taken such that it appears he is looking at the James while reading.
One of the finest Bond films ever made, the score by Eric Serra is just beautiful!
Goldeneye the best Bond, film Pierce Brosnan, best bond film. And the legend thr late Desmond llewelyn RIP
This is one of my favorite scenes in the entire franchise. As much as I love the Craig films, and as much as I love the new Q and his with interactions with Craig's Bond, I do wish they had a bit more of this type of humor and gadgetry sprinkled in. Nobody will ever top Desmond Llewellyn, though. He's a legend.
This is Q. An eccentric old man who is tasked with keeping James Bond alive. Not a yuppy geek with a laptop.
Unforgettable and irreplaceable. Pity Llwellyn made so little from the role.
@@shane99ca Don't get me wrong. Llwellyn was magic. But how much could he have really been expecting to make? With the exception of License To Kill and too a much lesser extent Octopussy which I'm sure paid better, each of the films couldn't have been more than a day's filming for him and he had a few dozen lines at most. And it wasn't like they were making a load of Q action figures or putting him on the posters or anything.
@@jamesharding9252 All true, but there's still a lot of unfairness and BS in the movie industry. In the movie _Operation Crossbow,_ Sophia Loren received co-star billing even though she also appeared for only a few minutes.
@Formerly Paul While Desmond will always be Q, you sound so stupid and bitter.
@Formerly Paul lol, go easy on him bruhh 😆😆.
I like how much of a kid 007 is at heart! just has to touch everything with a curious look on his face!
Desmond was a wonderful character for so many years, James Bond's and he is truly missed. Happy he lives on in this wonderful universe.
_"Morning, Q. Sorry about the leg... skiing?"_
*FWOOSH... BOOM!!!*
_"Hunting!"_
1:56 Well, Q disarmed the pen AFTER 4 seconds.
This might be my favorite Q scene throughout the entirety of the series
No matter how many times I repeat...the last line always makes me giggle..😀
2:26 I laughed so hard at that the first time I saw that. This is my absolute favorite Q and Bond interaction.
"The writing's on the wall?"
"Along with the rest of him!"
That's the only time Q ever found one of Bond's quips funny.
Correction: Pierce Brosnan is Irish.
Craig Bond was too dark
This is how I felt visiting my grandfather and playing around in the garage.
Brosnan's natural charisma and mastery of facial expressions made his version of Bond unforgettable... Some like to criticize the supposed "emptiness" of his character, but I find some of his quiet moments quite believable. He's levels above so called "acting" of today's Hollywood.
There is great acting in today’s Hollywood, you are just being nostalgic
"The Writings on the wall?"
Oh if they only knew 🤣
The dialogue between Q and Brosnan's Bond is on another level. Love it.
Would love to go back to these days. I miss how England used to be.
Nothing beats the comedic jesture between Q and James Bond
It's like Brosnan's Bond made Q laugh for the very first time in the Bond series where he said the there's a writing on the wall with him in it
I agree. For the first time in the series Q actually shared a joke with Bond
“Excellent! Just the thing for unwinding after a rough day at the office” 😂 Always loved that line lol
1:27 I adore Pierce Brosnan's delightfully puzzled double-take at the attacking phone box! 😄
1:19 That BT product placement is so subtle!
I always thought Desmond almost broke character, with Pierce saying the writing is on the wall.. they play so well of eachother! This was hilarious)
2:10 the way Q ran away...
"Q! I'm familiar with that device." The delivery of that line was perfect lmao
Does anyone else’s anxiety kick in and you immediately start counting when James clicks the pen three times?
Yes. I timed it at 4.9 seconds. They should be dead
Q's,naturally.
@@HRHooChicken You would think that Q would know better than to blithely have a bomb in the presence of 007 by now.
I always assumed its because he clicked it slower, but Q clicks it slower when he gives it to Fred.
It made my anxiety click in with real pens despite knowing damn well you are not fitting C4 in that thing.
It's definitely still my favorite Bond movie. It knew how to be fun and goofy while not outright deflating any suspense when it needed it.
Desmond Llewelyn was very pleasant and so irreplaceable as the #1 best Q in the 007 series. I don’t know how I would picture James Bond being without someone who’s very good at being a great technological wizard but with the same fatherly and collected charm of Llewelyn’s portrayal.
I always get a chill down my spine when I watch a intro to a bond movie. Last night Skyfall was on tv, it gave me the chill that I mentioned.
a rare case where all the gadgets in James Bond's car weren't used at all by the end of the movie
Considering the tank chase that destroyed most of St. Petersburg, a car chase would’ve been rather useless after that.
@@VickStarkiller Well if you have a choice between a T-55 Tank and a BMW... it's not a difficult choice to make
was the car even used at all in the movie? or was it the car used in the scene when bond and natalya were driving in cuba to meet jack wade for the plane?
@@Gameprojordan i dont believe so come to think of it lol I only saw the bmw appear appear when him and Natalya meet Wade
Yep, literally drove it up to meet Wade and swapped him for his plane. Dunno why they even bothered shipping the car to Cuba. Guess they were just testing BMW out as a partner. Tommorow never Dies made good use of the 7 Series and the R1200 Motorcycle.
Always loved Q's banter with all the Bond actors.
I`ve just bought the full collection of these James Bond beauties. Wish me luck as i delve into the caramel goodness of these filmic masterpieces !
So funny that Q said “Don’t touch that! It’s my lunch.” Hahahaha
Desmond and Pierce having a blast (literally) on the set. The pen scene was one where I THINK they had a couple of times where they cracked up.
1:51
if Q had been half a second slower that thing would've exploded.
Desmond Llewellyn: Classical Q
Ben Whishaw: Modern Q
Ben Wishaw isn’t Q
This is my favorite bond / Q scene from the series. Fun, light-hearted banter, and the initial transition into the parachute exploding from the car sets a perfect tone for all the rest of the random stuff in the lab.
"Need I remind you, 007, that you have a license to kill, not to break the traffic laws." Best Q line ever. There's just something so..._British_ about it.
"DON't TOUCH THAT!.... That's my lunch!" - Best quote of Q other than Desmond Wilkinson Llewelyn's final lines of his character.
I would have to say that out of all the James Bond films involving Q, portrayed by the late-Desmond Llewellyn, this particular scene is my favorite. I even like the ending of this clip in which James Bond inspects the sandwich before it's grabbed out of his hands by Q. Bond must have thought that it was a weapon of some sort before Q tells him that it's his lunch.
Did anybody notice that Q's wheelchair bazooka missed the target and blew up the employee break area? LOL
Love 💕 you Q no other I watch every bond in all decades it was a privilege we always laugh when he runs from his own work leaves Fred eehhh runs boom 💥 😂😂😂😂
Man that car looks awesome and seems to have a ton of cool gadgets in it. I can’t wait to see it in action and Bond performing death defying stunts in it.
