To everyone complaining about the water resistance; do you all find yourself submerged in a swimming pool or lake unexpectedly on a regular basis? Like, are you just walking down the street one minute than before you know it; "DRAT!! Im on the bottom of a swimming pool again!!". Like guys, c'mon. If you're subscribing to this channel, its a safe bet none of us are 'one watch guys' so we probably all own at least one diver, be it a sub or an skx, so just wear that one to the beach and keep this one at home. Would any of you have the same criticism if he reviewed a PP calatrava or ALS datograph? "Oh gee that Lange one sure is nice, but how will it hold up when someone unexpectedly throws me into the ocean?".
Purchased this watch very recently obtained a very competitive price. And on viewing your video which was extremely helpful decided to buy the same Staib bracelet via their retail outlet in Germany. This addition really made a massive difference the watch cried out for this strap which made the Big Eye simply pop. The guy who fitted the strap for me even commented that this was one if not the best watch he had seen in a very long time, he said it was a vintage classic with a modern look. Think that says it all really. Cheers M.
Longines chronos and complications are truly gorgeous with extremely reliable movement's and case design value - they are spectacular complication pieces with true generational value largely do to the reliability serviceability - and high level ETA movement quality. Well done Bruce. Thank you.
Awe, nice review bruce. And a very nice watch. This made me missing my Longines Master Collection Chronograph but I am loving this new model even more. Time to save money for this one. Hope to find one. Again, great watch review Bruce.
Beautiful watch. Very handsome. Congrats. One of the best modern chronograph in the past year or so. It's not inexpensive, but considering everything you get, it's actual a pretty good value.
I think in the case of the BigEye Longines was really staying true to the original watch hence the lack of logo and display caseback. There are other Longines in the Heritage collection that have the logo and display. Definitely on my wishlist for sure such a great watch. It looks like they don't blue the screws which probably saves considerable cost and most of the cases are all high polished all over but really not much to complain about. They make so many great watches! Hydroconquest and the VHP as well. Great review
Yes I told Longines to make display caseback for my 1954 Heritage By the way, Longines came up with new perlage rotor design I just replaced my 7750 movement & took some photos
Great review. Thanks for showing the movement. The balance spring, according to the Longines customer service, is made of silicium. Vintage style on the outside, up-to-date movement on the inside.
Newish to the obsession and super pleased to discover this watch. Been lusting over the Spitfire but not nuts about the faux petina or the dimensions and price. This really has that vintage IWC thing going on and maybe even better looking. But yes, show us that modded eta... Nice bracelet find Bruce!
Niiiice. More videos should feature the caseback taken off to highlight the movements. It's surprisingly rare to find how watch insides actually look, almost no other review looks at that.
I own this watch. And in my opinion it's a gorgeous watch. It's my go to watch for work. It's very legible just like any other pilot. The lume is just adequate if you wear it through the night. I think it compliments perfectly to a diver watch in any collection.
Longines is among the most solid choices for a high-tier chronograph that is still moderately priced. And for high-end divers too for that matter with the new movement in the Legend Heritage.
Saw it at an AD when I bought a strap for another watch and it caught my attention. Very well executed, good proportions and it didn't wear too big or bold although I prefer watches on the slimmer side. For the money it should be a no brainer, especially if you consider that fine movement with a column wheel. I'm just not sure if the 30m WR are a bit too low but I would guess that the 50m WR Speedmaster doesn't have extended use cases .
excellent review, congratulations! In your opinion, which watch to choose between Bigeye and Hamilton Intra matic based on the future possibility of maintaining the price in reselling it is also for wearability for a 17 cm wrist? thanks
Longines BigEye is a beautiful watch! And you are absolutely right about crystal back case which is desperately needed. I wonder why they left out the Longines logo. 99% of their other watches all have the logo design right underneath of Longine name on the dial, so unless they left it out intentionally for some reason which I really would like to know, it would definitely look nicer with the logo on the dial. The dial looks bit busy with a lot of designs, but surprisingly, everything works perfect. Great review, Bruce. I just subscribed your vids and hope to see some more in the future
Aviation watches prioritize anti magnetism and so tend not to have display case backs, preferring faraday (thick soft metal) cases. Same with the IWC Spitfire and others.
I have this watch and it is fkn amazing. I prefer it on the brown leather strap. I also have a master collection watch with see-through case back and I can see the blue column wheel :)
Hi! I just wanted to ask if that is a Staib bracelet. Also wondering if this ended up being a keeper and what other strap options you've found to work well with this watch. Thanks!!
Bruce, I've noticed you've moved on from Seiko and moved to higher luxury watches (i.e. Rolex GMT, Longines Avigation Bigeye, etc.). Glad to see you moving on, but I would recommend keeping 2-3 Seikos that you love. However, don't hang onto Seikos just to hang onto them... don't forget where you started, but don't let it hold you back either. Evolve my young butterfly! I'm very, very tempted to buy this Longines, but I think my Omega Speedmaster ticks all the same boxes... and this will be redundant in my collection and get little wrist time. Plus, I'm saving for an IWC Le Petite Pilot Chrono (blue dial). P.S. Loved that you showed the movement... it's beautiful, but that crown stem worries me being so thin.
In the UK they are supplied in a standard type cardboard (but high quality) box. I can sort of agree with you about the lack of an exhibition back and logo on the dial, but it's not a big deal. I don't see why they couldn't give you the choice of a solid or see through back - in fact at this price point they could have supplied both with the watch for you to change if desired.
@@Not-a-bot222 No. They sold out on Jomashop. I don't want to buy it in a AD unless they match Jomashop price which they probably won't. Jomashop had it for $1,700. I'll have to wait and see if they get one back in stock.
When you look at the watch with the case back removed, you can see that the rotor is basically level with the case. It would have been nice if Longines slimmed that case back just a bit to make this wear even more comfortably than it already does. Also, a note on the movement - if I'm not mistaken this is based on the Valjoux 7751, same as Omega Calibre 3330. I've read on forums that Longines actually left the date complication in the movement - it would like cost too much money in man hours to remove it when they received it from ETA. Fun little fact/quirk about this watch. You would have to think that removing the date complication could also have shaved down the thickness just ever so slightly.
Do you know if the crown has a (useless) position for setting the date? I don't mind the date complication being there but if the crown had a position without any function it would really be a major flaw in my opinion.
Question for Bruce on the mesh: Hi Bruce, hope you're well. I have a similar Longines, the heritage 1951. I have seen ppl wearing it with a mesh. However, I am not sure if the mesh will scratch the watch as the spring bars are fitted way inside the case. Please advice. Thanks and keep up the good work.
