Love the new studio and that you are using the FX30 for your studio cam - looks great! That's my main studio cam as well. Have you tried the Phantom luts?
Great video, thank you, and in case you didn't know, using the black magic app, you can record Apple log using H.265, which is a fraction of the size. It's what I do. I have a computer that can deal with it. or you can make proxies. Also, on the Osmo, I think it has HLG, if so I would use that and not D-Log. Lastly, if you've gotten up-to-date, MacBook Pro or iPad, I would keep in a HDR, workflow and export HDR, because RUclips knows whether to deliver SDR or HDR, depending on the viewers device capabilities.
To date, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the most compelling of the Osmo Pocket line up. It was also great to hear that the creative kit comes with a wireless audio recorder that records 32-bit audio. That's a pretty big deal IMHO. If I were to pick up this type of content creation device, it would be the Pocket 3. Camera wise, I'm starting to drift towards the Panasonic S5iix. I plan on keeping my Sony FX30. But, for upgrading, I think the S5iix ticks all the boxes. With the gimbal-like stabilization, recording to an SSD, recording raw externally, etc. I am especially interested in getting a Blackmagic monitor to be able to record BRAW. Having worked with BRAW before with the BMPCC4K, I really came to love working with that format. It was really hard to give up the BMPCC4K. But, as an indie filmmaker, reliable autofocus is a huge plus. Anywayyy. Thanks for another fantastic comparison video. Oh, I thought I'd mention that I love the music you use for the slow motion videos. Very cool.
Thanks for the video! There is something about your Pocket 3 footage that just looks "off" in the stabilization. I can't figure it out but I don't see the same with my walk and talk video on the Osmo and I don't have an ND. Cheers.
I see what you are talking about - I have actually used 2 different Pocket 3’s in my footage. Maybe I have shaky hands or maybe it’s because I’m holding two cameras at once- but the stabilization does seem unnatural in my footage - maybe because it’s cold outside - what are the temps like in your area?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis that could be it. I'm in Raleigh NC and it doesn't get much below 50f when I use mine. It would make for an interesting test to see if it is the cold.
Another great review that helps me decide, not just killing time watching a video! I still have not bought the DJI but already bought a set of variable ND filters. Yes, I found a set of variable NDs for the DJI that will help me keep the 24 fps at 1/50. With my GoPro I never really liked the fixed NDs at 8, 16, 32. It's never the actual setting you want to use and it results in shadows noise in the GoPro. Would it be possible to upload a link to a DJI sample so we can download and evaluate it? It could be watermarked, we don't mind. I would love to test even 4-5 seconds of day and night LOG or HLG 10-bit samples at -2 sharpness. I already have some ProRes samples and I want to see if the 130 Mbps bitrate of the DJI somehow is decent enough compared to the iPhone 15. I will first buy the DJI and then the iPhone but to my mind it seems the DJI has no jitter walking and this makes it ideal for YT and stock footage, but maybe it does not behave so well in the highlights, that's why I would like to see an original sample of the DJI in HLG, which, being Rec.2020 should behave better in post. Finally, do you know if I lower the EV to maybe -3 in the day to avoid burned skies or even EV -5 at night to avoid burned LED lights at window showcases at night, will I have some detail in the highlights instead of a burned white look? I understand the shadows are going to be noisier but I will clean that with Neat if it's that I can have the highlights detail I can have with my Sony using HLG profile during the day or the Cine-4 profile at night.
This was VERY helpful - thank you. I have been struggling with this exact decision. You make all great points. I'm gonna go iPhone 15pro just because I know it will always be with me and I won't have to carry 2 devices. Great video!
I'll now need to go back and check the previous video you shoot with the DJI camera, the reason is that on this video when you were walking with both, the DJI and the phone, the gimbal stabilization on the DJI was looking really weird, and I don't remember having that feeling on your previous video. Was the active tracking causing some weird bouncing? I'll go and check that other video you did. Thanks for sharing. The low light on the DJI was fantastic!
I also noticed it in the video. My DJI P3 does not have that same problem so I reckon it has got to do with the one used for the video or a particular setting
For the future, I'd suggest you add a low light (indoor/night streets) walking/stabilization test to the review format (at least for "vlogging" cameras).

Happy New Year from Japan! Excellent video comparison, and yes, too many people forget that audio is 50% of your film. Thanks for the shout out again - it's interesting to see how the two cameras differ in their white balance calculations. It's also important to note that as of this writing, the Osmo Pocket 3 has an actual colour bug in the pure reds where it is undersaturated compared to adjacent colours. Which sucks as it's rather close to skin tones, making skin feel a bit dull. Hopefully they fix that in a future firmware update! Cheers, Paul :)

I don't care about the vlogging. I only want to capture cinematic travel videos with beautiful music in the background. For that purpose, there's no beating the iPhone 15 Pro Max... especially in ProRes using the Black Magic camera. Also, using the Black Magic camera compresses the log footage to where it takes up very little space without compromising image quality.
Apple is, as we can see here in comparison with the DJI Pocket 3, absolutely overrated. In addition, the 'iPhone 15 Pro' is of course a lot too expensive for its performances. Apple is just a life style, technically it's always overvalued for its high prices.
My logic is that you may have good phone like new IQOO 12 for somthing like $500 and have DJI Poket 3 combo for $600 and that is still a bit less than new Iphone. So you will have a good phone and a exellent vlogging camera with microphone for the money and it's much more convenient not to have phone calls wile recording.
You are going you are going to be seriously limited on distance using Bluetooth mic on iPhone. the P3 actually communicates over RF 2.4 Ghz, with a range of over 800 ft
Pretty similar images on the Log videos, slightly prefer the more colourful image from the iPhone 15 for the standard video mode. Wow, you are right about how bad the studio shots look for the standard modes
if we want to do social media and content creation and have limited budget then sur go for osmo pocket 3 and get an seconhand iphone like 13 and 14 and it cost less than 15 pro as well
Why is there a jitter on the Osmo? You can clearly see it when you are walking side by side with the iPhone. The iPhone is smooth whereas there is noticeable jitter on the osmo
Not totally sure - it could be a Hugh shutter speed or maybe the cold - or maybe it just jitters around if you're not super smooth. Looking at other people's videos - I can see some jitter there as well - having the iPhone side-by-side makes it more obvious
Mark, I've discovered your channel recently and I have to say, you are becoming one of my favorites channels very quickly. You are super original and your comments make me laugh! Keep up with the good work and.... go out at night like a lunatic :) I have a really hard laugh at that :) not on this video though
In the beginning of the video you say, people yell at you to do something and you do it..."DO A CARTWHEEL". that's me yelling. Hopefully you'll do a cartwheel. Good comparison video by the way.
Great video as always. I’ve been trying to find this answer on RUclips. No luck. Maybe someone has thoughts? I just bought an iPhone 15 Pro to use strictly for shooting comedy sets with my DjI mic on a tall but small footprint stand. I have a separate SE 20 as my phone. My question is - is the osmo pocket 3 with dji mic 2 any good at capturing a spoken word person on a mic in a spotlight. Could it compete with the iPhone in this case. Thanks
I have filmed a lot of comedy sets - and I doubt the DJI would work unless you’re putting the camera really close to you. It’s a wide lens, so if it’s at the back of a club, the shot will be very wide. What lens are you using in the iPhone - I’m assuming you’re using one of the telephoto lenses unless your phone os close tot he stage
Do not get an external microphone 🎤 get a dedicated recording device, the pocket 3 has a dedicated recording device 34 floating and it works perfectly. can you make a video about the pocket 3 recording system. feliz navidad 🎄
I've seriously loved the Pocket series since the 1st, but the substantially higher price of the 3 creator combo occupies a painful point. Not that it isn't warranted for the tech, but with a fixed ultrawide lens and 9MP sensor it's pretty much limited to vlogging (or vlogging-adjacent? content lol), and that's a pretty hefty entrance fee doing walk and talk video. I'd expect the Dougie Mk 2 to be around that price, which is capable of easily paying for itself as a B/C cam for paid work and so much more versatile of a system you can expand on endlessly. And of course the iPhone 15 Pro is a whole damn computer in your pocket. To me the Pocket 3 comes off as a much more niche (vlog prosumer?) purchase this time. I got the Pocket 2 for $200 and still think it's the best total bang for buck I've ever spent on a camera. Still excited for people who get an introduction to filmmaking through the Pocket 3 though. It does one thing, but damn does it do it well.
Very strange head and body shake in DJI walking test. It looks like you were walking on a very rocky road. Could be that DJI is trying to keep you in focus and DJI terrible focus breathing lens is creating this forward and backwards movement of you head and/or body. The shake I am referring to is the subject constantly moving forward and back (just a little bit) on each step.
I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and an Instaa360 Flow gimbal, but I just ordered a Pocket 3, because I want to use my phone as a remote control to the camera and it P3 is less conspicuous than a phone.
5:34 The quality looks better on the iPhone footage than the DJI. One thing that confuses me a little bit form this street comparison though is that the DJI appears to be wider. If I am not mistaken you said you were using the main wide angle of the iPhone which is the 24mm camera with the full 48mp F1.8 lens that it has. The reason I am confused is because I always understood that the DJI has a 20mm lens which in 35mm terms would be 40mm. If you add the wide angle adapter that bumps it down to 15mm which is equivalent to 30mm in 35mm terms given the 1-inch sensor and the multiplication factor of 2. So If you are using the wide angle on the DJI it should only be 30mm equivalent which is not as wide as the iPhone but I am noticing that the DJI appears to be wider. So are the focal lengths for DJI already the 35mm equivalent and I shouldn't be doubling it up? Is it really a 20mm lens or 15mm if you use the wide angle? 6:29 The iPhone seems better on the studio test too. 6:58 Change my mind. On auto settings the DJI looks better. The iPhone is too saturated and un-natural. 7:55 DJI is a clear winner in low light. 14:24 What happens when the iPhone memory gets full up and you're in the middle of nowhere without good cellular coverage? With the DJI you can just put in a new memory card. I like that you can get Freewell Anamorphic lens for the iPhone. It would be nice if they also made something similar for the DJI Pocket 3. Perhaps they will make such a lens for it? There are other companies as well that makes Anamorphic lens for the iPhone. I'm not aware of any company that does one for the Pocket 3 yet. I think an iPhone is more likely to be a target for thieves who may attempt to snatch it, especially in some countries. The DJI has an attachment where you can clip it to the front of your backpack and it would be somewhat more disused and stealthy if it's against a black backpack and clothing.
When DJI says 20mm - they mean 20 mm full frame equivalent. The DJI is a one inch sensor - so to get to a full frame equivalent it's multiplied by 2.7x. The DJI lens is actually roughly 7.4mm. 7.4mm x 2.7 = 19.98. The iPhone 15 main lens is around 4.2mm but because of the sensor size, you have to multiply that by around 6 to get the 24mm (actually closer to 26 in reality) full frame equivalent Crop factor compared to full frame: 1 inch sensor - 2.7x Micro 4/ 3 - 2x APS-C - 1.5x Here is a handy chart to help visualize: photoseek.com/2013/compare-digital-camera-sensor-sizes-full-frame-35mm-aps-c-micro-four-thirds-1-inch-type/
Would the DJI do better than GoPro 11 for an indoor auto show? The GoPro looked really jittery indoors. ZVE1 is my favorite, but I want a small setup for a crowded situation. I just discovered banding in photos with ZVE1 at the museum with their lights. Can’t get rid of it at all shutter speeds I tried in the menu to reduce flicker.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis it was some sort of variable shutter feature. I’ll check it out again. Only a problem with photos. I know electronic shutter has limitations.
I got the Pocket 3 right when it came out. Still on the fence about how useful it is for my content. Obviously great when you need to handheld footage, and low light is great. BUT it's really annoying on a tripod for a few reasons. First, needing an adaptor for the 1/4 20 screw... Second, I would like to see a firmware update to completely lock the gimbal for "studio" mode. Then we get into the battery which is just weird. The external battery pack is less than 1000 mAh - I have an Anchor 5000 mAh battery that is almost the same size. Why not just put a replaceable battery like any other camera? Drop the unit with the external battery attached and you're in trouble. I find myself reaching for the ZV1 more often than the Pocket 3...
Hi Mike, would you know if it would be a good idea to have a gimbal when using Action4 camera in low light? You are funny, just found out your a,real comedian 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Imagine if we get an aps-c model with some ultra compact lens options in the next dji pocket cameras, with the advancement of tech i’m sure it would compete with regular mirrorless cameras on gimbals.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis how about lighting ? The reason I ask is because my daughter just bought one and she doesn’t home stagings biz in Florida and will be using it mostly insiders
Tbh I think the iPhone log images look better - the color science is just better IMO. The only reason I’d choose the DJI would be to possibly have something separate from my phone. But if you want the tracking, the gimbal frills, etc. just buy the DJI gimbal and attach your phone, that’s what I’ve always done 😄. With a Bluetooth mic you should be good to go
4:31 you can wrap and I watch around the iPhone and use it as a screen when you’re using the back lens. It’s an amazing function. I personally have returned four different DJI pocket threes and all 4 were absolutely mechanical messes, including software issues. It definitely takes a great video except for it’s totally a piece of junk.. nice video good job.
Or just get a Samsung S23 Ultra and use the Samsung Native Camera in Pro Video Mode and viola, MIC 2 audio will be recorded. Either way though both Samsung S23U and iPhone 15 pro do not have expandable storage, so having the Pocket 3 is a better option because the Memory Card is swappable.
Thank you so much Mark for the long- awaited comparison. I do really appreciate it. Iphone 15 pro is definitely worth every penny. The quality of the video is amazing which makes it an excellent device for vlogging. Also, thanks for pointing out the difference between iphone 15 pro and pro max camera difference. I bought the DJi P3 because I was using my phone as a web cam and after 20 mins it over heated and shut off.
Always staying for this guy's smiling face
if we want to do social media and content creation and have limited budget then sur go for osmo pocket 3 and get an seconhand iphone like 13 and 14 and it cost less than 15 pro as well
Why is there a jitter on the Osmo? You can clearly see it when you are walking side by side with the iPhone. The iPhone is smooth whereas there is noticeable jitter on the osmo
Not totally sure - it could be a Hugh shutter speed or maybe the cold - or maybe it just jitters around if you're not super smooth. Looking at other people's videos - I can see some jitter there as well - having the iPhone side-by-side makes it more obvious
Might be better just to get the Osmo because you have to buy a phone rig and a gimbal for your phone to do the same as the Osmo.
Thanks for being one of the only people that do this comparison justice
Mark, I've discovered your channel recently and I have to say, you are becoming one of my favorites channels very quickly. You are super original and your comments make me laugh! Keep up with the good work and.... go out at night like a lunatic :) I have a really hard laugh at that :) not on this video though
😂
Welcome aboard!!
In the beginning of the video you say, people yell at you to do something and you do it..."DO A CARTWHEEL". that's me yelling. Hopefully you'll do a cartwheel. Good comparison video by the way.
I’m too old - but I’ll try 🤣
Don't need this DJI camera but, like always, enjoyed this video and felt both entertained and informed... thanks!
Well I appreciate that!!
I wonder what this guy is doing as his full time job!
strangely, this it it
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis awesome you must have some background in cameras you know do much love you content
Yes - I have some stuff coming about the pocket 3 mic. That’s what I meant my external microphone in the vid.
It does one thing, but damn does it do it well.

great 1st minute.. hooked!
Really loving the comparison videos.
Very good and honest review. I loved your impartiality.
strange, I couldn't stop watching... actually I don't have time to comment, I'm going to watch your other videos
🤣🤣 you sound like a good person
For this use I think ProRes is overkill.
agreed - you'd be better off using the Blackmagic app and H.265 and log
Could be similar camera, however 15PM has better stabilization, at least
does look better to my eye
Very strange head and body shake in DJI walking test. It looks like you were walking on a very rocky road. Could be that DJI is trying to keep you in focus and DJI terrible focus breathing lens is creating this forward and backwards movement of you head and/or body. The shake I am referring to is the subject constantly moving forward and back (just a little bit) on each step.
I think it might be the lack of ND - making the shutter speed too high and causing jitters - will investigate.

Kasey is the best!!
I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and an Instaa360 Flow gimbal, but I just ordered a Pocket 3, because I want to use my phone as a remote control to the camera and it P3 is less conspicuous than a phone.
I’m still contemplating on getting a P3 which has a bigger Sensor than the i15PM
The iPhone 15 main lens is around 4.2mm but because of the sensor size, you have to multiply that by around 6 to get the 24mm (actually closer to 26 in reality) full frame equivalent
Crop factor compared to full frame:
1 inch sensor - 2.7x
Micro 4/ 3 - 2x
APS-C - 1.5x
Here is a handy chart to help visualize: photoseek.com/2013/compare-digital-camera-sensor-sizes-full-frame-35mm-aps-c-micro-four-thirds-1-inch-type/
Really excellent video, thanks. The only bad part was envying that fantastic full head of hair.
Haha 👩🦳👩🦳
I like watching your videos, just subscribe
thanks!!
One helpful tip is that the microphone that you get with the DJI Pocket three actually works with the iPhone.
yes - mentioned that in the vid 👍
flash storage has tbw, iphone with non replacable storage + very big prores file gonna kill that phone for the long run.
i'll take dji for vlogging.
Strap an external ssd
Would the DJI do better than GoPro 11 for an indoor auto show? The GoPro looked really jittery indoors. ZVE1 is my favorite, but I want a small setup for a crowded situation. I just discovered banding in photos with ZVE1 at the museum with their lights. Can’t get rid of it at all shutter speeds I tried in the menu to reduce flicker.
did you try the tv scan mode
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis it was some sort of variable shutter feature. I’ll check it out again. Only a problem with photos. I know electronic shutter has limitations.
Yes, electronic only can be an issue
New Studio is so nice
I love the #ZVE1 12800 ISO is ridiculous
I use 12800 about 50% of the time these days
The walking in the DJI looks awful
it's more jittery than i expected for sure
I find myself reaching for the ZV1 more often than the Pocket 3...
yes - It's a fun camera - but it remains to be seen if it will be.a "useful" additions
I love your new Studio! ❤
Great video..
One thing about the IPhone is that it takes photos! For people like me who does hybrid, it’s great to do both things!
The DJI P3 also takes photos
I think the head motion of the Pocket 3 is super weird and unnatural.
yeah - it’s a bit jittery, I think it might go better with an nd filter, gonna try that next
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisThat would be great Mark. It's probably my only dislike so far.
iPhone is better plus it’s a editing system
true dat - an all in one
EXACTLY the comparison i was looking for!!!
(first lol!!)
Hi Mike, would you know if it would be a good idea to have a gimbal when using Action4 camera in low light? You are funny, just found out your a,real comedian 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It would help yes because the camera wouldn’t haven’t to stabilize and you would get less artifacts and blur
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks, that was funny 😄 😆 🤣 😂 😀!
For me its pocket 3 due iphone have horrific lens flares at low light
Exactly! The flares also occur even in averagely lit environments that would not be considered as low light
Exactly! The flares also occur even in averagely lit environments that would not be considered as low light
Imagine if we get an aps-c model with some ultra compact lens options in the next dji pocket cameras, with the advancement of tech i’m sure it would compete with regular mirrorless cameras on gimbals.
In 2016 the DJI Osmo X5 Pro was a failure, now, with the success of this Osmo Pocket, it's likely they'll revive a variant of the Osmo X5 Pro.
So what where some of the adjustments you had to make for the studio shots to correct the picture did you have put it to 10bit HGL?
I use log 10-but footage for both in the studio
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis how about lighting ? The reason I ask is because my daughter just bought one and she doesn’t home stagings biz in Florida and will be using it mostly insiders
hi gUuys
So helpful!!
How is there only ten comments!? 😢 Your vids are the best! 😊
I think there are a few more now. Sometimes it takes a while 😀
Hallelujah! 😂
Pocket 3 only winning in low light
the iPhone is pretty good.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisyes but that tiny sensor struggles terribly in low light
With a Bluetooth mic you should be good to go
Most youtubers do these comparisons using only the default settings.
The Iphone with LOG is on another level, looks like a Mirror camera.
yes it looks great
4:31 you can wrap and I watch around the iPhone and use it as a screen when you’re using the back lens. It’s an amazing function. I personally have returned four different DJI pocket threes and all 4 were absolutely mechanical messes, including software issues. It definitely takes a great video except for it’s totally a piece of junk.. nice video good job.
🤣
Would it be possible to teach us how to get the best quality of images and videos on iphone 15 pro settings wise? considering that it needs setting for studio environment, or if you can recommend me a video to watch on how to set iphone 15 pro camera for the best results. Thanks
I find best resultants are to use the LeemingLUT and apple log pro res. Even in the native camera with these settings it’s really good
Great video! 👍
thanks!!
best comparison of iphone and dji in the internet. fun and detailed
thanks!!
Nice side by side comparison Mark. Fully agree with you calling the iPhone a ‘one stop shop’. I love and use my camera gear all the time, but my iPhone needs so little care when in my pocket and literally is ready to record in a couple of seconds, then is all set for sharing via social media media or even Airdrop👍🏼👍🏼😄
Cheers much Mark appreciate the hard work
I actually liked IPhone's footage more lol 😂
DJI's LightCut is a game changer when it comes to editing your videos 😊❤
You have an excellent audio sir , please what mic do you use ?
in the studio I use the rode ntg3 amzn.to/47h9fBL
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks alot Sir
Did your people search for the hundred videos comparing the iPhone 15 pro with the Pocket 3 that exist already?
Pocket 3 ALWAYS wins until apple can get rid of the floating green dots that ruin every shot.
