The final song on Copperhead Road was actually written for an Oak Ridge Boys Christmas album. In this clip, Steve gives the backstory on how the song was written, as well as how it was recorded after Copperhead Road was completed.

    Can't believe I hadn't heard this song before now. wearing the conductor hat in 89,90,91..... Watched the movie last night Christmas miracle of Jonathan Toomey (which I can't believe I hadn't seen before now) and heard this song and said that has to be Steve Earle..........❤❤

      Better late than never. After hearing Copperhead Road on WXRT back in '88, I bought the Cassette. This song totally surprised me at the end. Absolutely beautiful.

      You're not alone there. It's made me cry since I first heard it on my newly purchased "Copperhead Road" Cassette in '88.
