In this clip, Steve gives the backstory on how the song was written, as well as how it was recorded after Copperhead Road was completed.

Can't believe I hadn't heard this song before now. wearing the conductor hat in 89,90,91..... Watched the movie last night Christmas miracle of Jonathan Toomey (which I can't believe I hadn't seen before now) and heard this song and said that has to be Steve Earle..........❤❤

Better late than never. After hearing Copperhead Road on WXRT back in '88, I bought the Cassette. This song totally surprised me at the end. Absolutely beautiful.
