I got 2 tape cassettes of the album, 1 for me & 1 for my Dad ,he picked me up and we put it on in his car . We drove 27 miles just listening to it . Got home &put it on again.Since my dad passed away I listen to this song & think of my dad.
Luv ya Steve, named our road to our farm Copperhead Road, way back, because there was Copperheads there!! Lmao Still UNDERSTAND it all!! 63 yrs old now, life SOOOO different now, especially living in city compared to country, where we grew up!! SAD for the children! 😞
They've killed it every time I've seen them play (4 times in the last 5 years). It helps to have The Mastersons as part of The Dukes. Tight, rootsy, and can rock out too.
I always thought they should play, "I like Big butts And I cannot lie" by Sir Mix-A-Lot at my funeral either that or "We've only just begun" Carpenters....
And he gives back as well. He was playing in my town with The Dukes about 8 years ago and to my surprise, I saw him at a 12 step meeting (I’m breaking anonymity a bit, but it’s Steve Earle so not a secret). A few of us obviously recognized him and were in awe. We talked to him for a bit and he gave us all free tickets to his show in town. They rocked it out too!
When this album or cd came out I was a young man, maybe 21. I got it for Christmas because I liked small town Saturday night. So I was listening to the whole thing and this song rolled around,it made a life long impression on me. I’m 54 now and still have the cd and still get it out a enjoy it sometime.

Y'all can say whatever you want but that first two minutes of mandolin sounded like he was trying to play with broken fingers. And no this isn't the best live version. It was far better in his youth when the song came out; saw him open for the Kentucky Headhunters. Damn, Steve.
I have loved Steve Earl for a long time. And to me he can do no wrong, but We all get old and have off days and lose a step or two and I think that's what happened to him on this day. He'll you could see it on Steve's face, he knew he was off
Although I love the song, I don't believe it's even close to his best. Still, the first time I heard it on the car radio I.whooped out loud and yelled out the window "THESE ARE MY PEOPLE!!"
richard bennett If interviews are to be believed, Steve got sober 4 years before this video. He just looks like that. I saw him a few years ago and he looked like that.
Actually, I don't think so. I have seen Steve multiple times, and he really does not change much from show to show. Setlists on a tour are almost always identical. He is quite predictable, down to the jokes and stories he tells. The drummer was pretty new to the band at this point, though, which might explain it.
It is Farm Aid - Crowds are often under-enthusiastic at festivals. They come for one or two bands they most like, but different fans are there for different artists.
I don’t know if it was the distortion on the guitar or on the mandolin, but it sounded absolutely awful. It sounded like it was plugged into a biscuit tin.
If it is too loud, that is on the sound guy, not the guitarist... Eric Amble is a well known and respected guitarist, and is playing pretty close to the album version.
If you mean out of his mind on drugs, you are wrong. He got clean in 94 and has been clean and sober since then. He is a hardcore 12 step guy. He does look better here than a few years earlier, when he was just off the drugs and had gained a lot of weight on methadone (which is pretty usual.)
@@crisprtalk6963 And you have absolutely no evidence other than your bias. He has been clean and sober since 94. If he had relapsed, there are plenty of people who would have made it public. There are a couple biographies with extensive research and no mention of any relapse.
In my humble opinion there are maybe 10 songs in my life all genres all eras all styles that r i suppose songs beyond the normal versions of songs. I hope i make my point clearly. Songs that r on another level n i guess can go into the Library Of Congress as pieces of national archives. For me without thinking too much a few of them again, just my humble opinion, i would enter Born To Run Springsteen and the E Street Band, Symphony #9 Beethoven ( the last 6 minutes is in itself masterful n 6 ranges of pure emotion) i would put PSA by Jay-Z 2003 as 2 or 3 minutes of some of the deepest most realistic n thought provoking rap lyrics ever as well as maybe something by Dylan of course. On n on BUT this masterpiece has to be there. From the narrative to the combo of musical arrangement. The story n almost anger or revisionist anger idk just truly beautiful in every way. Thank you for reading.
You may have done dope, but he is not high. He had been clean 5 years here, and there are plenty of people around him to dispute that if it were not true.
