For future reference, when you do a skill test, like lore or observation, you roll the number of dice and input the successes. What you guys are doing is essentially inputting high successes in every skill test. This means that not only will you not fail a test, but you will gain benefits by having more successes.
16:03 I believe Sam was supposed to roll his Lore (so 3 dice) and then enter the amount of successes he got into the input. This is what you always have to do when you see a skill Icon during an interaction. So 3 was really high, that's why he instantly passed it. 18:10 Also the monster moves as normal when it destroys a barricade! Sorry, have been playing this a few times recently and have the rules in my head! Telling you guys so you will hopefully know for next time! :D Love this game.
Rules don't really mean anything, it's roleplay, it's whatever you want it to be. They're made up by people much like those who play the game, so there's no reason why a person playing the game cannot take on the same role as it's creators. Most roleplaying systems encourage people to mess with the rules or throw them away, including dungeons and dragons which even states in its handbook - the rule of cool, which is to bend or break rules in favor of storytelling.
Lincoln Frost as much as what you are saying is true, I am pretty sure they were actually unaware of the mistakes they made. Mansions of Madness is a tough game, so bending the rules to make it easier is definetly an okay thing to do. But as I described in my previous comment: every time you interact with a search or object token, and you see the Icon that represents lore or some other skill, you have to roll for successes. If you don't (what they are doing) then you always enter a minimum amount of 2 or 3. Which basically means you always pass the test. So there is no game mechanic the way they are playing it, they always succeed and find items. Hence why I thought they are unaware of this and tried to notify them :) Edit: I would also like to state that there are a lot of rules and its hard to remember them all. Which is why I personally appreciate it if others point out rules to me. That's why I try to return the favor for those who care. For example, I didn't realize that interacting with a sight token does not cost an action.
That would only apply if this was a traditional roleplaying game. This isn't. This is a boardgame which uses an app with precreated scenarios. It uses the in app to determine turns, events, and any other calculations. You can stay in character while still adhering to the rules set by the board game. Breaking rules is something you try to avoid to keep the integrity of the boardgame.
I think you guys might want to play a game called Betrayal at House on the Hill. It is sort of like this game and it is different every time and it has 50 haunts to choose from(haunts are when the game really stars) so it has a large replay value and is by far one of my favorites in games

I started playing D&D because of you guys, and now you do it again with another awesome tabletop game! Great job. Question though: Would you guys ever do D&D video's again? Lol
I have to speak up about this cause it's bothering me hahaha, but when you take an action and a skill check appears, (ie. shows the book symbol which means do a lore check) then you take the appropriate number of dice as indicated on your character sheet and roll. Then you input the number of successes, which are the elder signs, into the companion app. If you roll a magnifying glass symbol then you are allowed to spend one clue to change one of the magnifying glasses into a success up to however many clues you have. You can also spend one clue to re-roll one die. The way you guys are playing makes it so that there aren't any stakes, which means that there won't really be any intense moments!!! Just check out the rule book again or even better the players reference book as that has much more detailed information that's easy to find. Anyways, hope this is helpful and I look forward to seeing you guys continue playing this game, cause it really is a good one!
